@nirbateman - Where did you get a BD of the BatB WiP?  I thought that didn't exist.

 I didn't.

When I prepared digital files from the 2DBD for Andrea's project, I noticed that there is a 2nd video signal.

When I extracted it and examined it, I was pretty amazed.

Clear as day, a progressive SD video file of the WIP, scanned from a film print.

It's 3 MBPS, in 480p, and obviously, cinematic as hell.

If only they would do that to the theatrical version...

Anyway, I raised a question on AMPS regarding that file, as I have uploaded it for Andrea to use as a guideline for his project, and I'd love to share it.

With regards to BATB, I think the solution may have arrived from Disney, no less.

The work-in-progress version on the BD, from what I could see, is definitely film sourced, and appears very dark indeed.

It is not branched with the special edition, but is on a different file.

I'll be sending a rip to Andrea so that he could compromise on the brightness settings for his project, as the brightness setting on this print is meant for the cinemas and not for home viewing.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast [spoRv] <em>BD-25</em> (Released)

Well, I use a 22" calibrated Dell monitor, and I do not see macro blocking.

On the 4th test clip (LaserClean) there was a slight bleed on the beast's fur, which is perhaps what you saw, but it doesn't appear on the HaloClean, which is smoother.

The very slight amount of analog noise leaves me satisfied that no extra detail is lost either, so I see it as the best option yet.

How many scenes (approx.) have blackouts in the HBO version?

There are some minor dropouts throughout, but there are 2 nasty ones that caught my attention.

The opening credits are missing almost everything, and the scene before the bridge scene has a nasty disruption that ends it abruptly.

Unless there is a better capture, I wouldn't use it.

If there is, then after matting it, it can work.

There is no BD release of True Lies in the near future.

Not even a release date.

While the Dtheatre release isn't as detailed as the HBO version, it does have the entire film, while the HBO has blackouts (Probably due to satellite problems in the recording), so the DVHS is the best there is right now and in the foreseeable future.

Also, if a BD should be released, it would probably suffer the same fate as Aliens, and won't have the original DTS mix. So I would say that one of the best action/comedy flicks of the 90's deserves the team's attention.
