I’m having a hard time extracting ROTJ. Got it from The Ultimate Introductory Guide to Harmys Trilogy site. Downloading the MKV files. All of it downloads, but when I try to extract it using The Unarchiver on my Mac it says something is wrong with part 40. It looks like it starts to explain what’s wrong in the pop up window but then the window isn’t big enough for any info so the explanation cuts off.
I’ve deleted and redownloaded part 40 three times and always get the same message. It says stop or continue with the extraction. I continued once, and it completed the extraction. I played the movie, started fine, but then I try to fastfoward and it freezes. I haven’t sat down to watch it in its entirety to see what happens yet. What can I do here? Anyone else experienced this? What’s the fix? Thanks in advance!
Update: Fixed it by deleting all the files downloaded from ROTJ, downloading all again, then it extracted correctly.

The Blu-ray ISO’s made by NJVC are fantastic. For now they’re the only way I watch the original trilogy.

Okay figured it out earlier.
First of all, I didn’t realize that the movie itself would have to be pulled up on the screen to see all the audio options in the drop down audio menu. All the tracks are there.
Secondly, the sound sounds like it should now. If anyone else has this problem, the solution for me was to go into audio device in the drop down audio menu. Make sure it’s set to HDMI (Encoded Output). Elementary for all you I’m sure but I have hardly any experience with VPC.
And lastly, wow, watching A New Hope tonight was like being reunited with a long lost loved one. Ha! Seriously I never once had that moment of being pulled out of it when I saw one of Lucas’ stupid add ins. And the colors and clarity are unreal. Can’t wait to watch Empire and dl Jedi. Man these things are awesome, can’t believe Lucas wouldn’t want all the releases to look like this. Thanks so much to Harmy and everyone else who worked on it.
Not sure where you got 2.7, but lots of software players don’t handle the lossless DTS-MA tracks very well. A lossy AC3/Dolby Digital track is pretty universally playable. In my experience, VLC has no problems with multiple audio tracks, but that’s not on a Mac. You should simply be able to select one of the alternate AC3 tracks to see if it plays back without distortion. I suspect you got a remux – i.e. not the original files, probably extra compressed and put on a public torrent. Those are pretty common, because the real deal involves huge files that people generally don’t have the patience to download.
I got it from the ultimate introductory guide to harmys Star Wars trilogy despecialized editions. Each of the films took a couple hours to download and were around 20 GB each. Is that right?
Just started watching 2.7 for the first time with my MacBook Pro connected to my Onkyo TX SR805 via HDMI and Thunderbolt/HDMI adapter into my MacBook Pro’s Thunderbolt port. Rear channels are extremely distorted and theres hardly any bass. Onkyo says Mulitchannel on the screen. Any idea why it would sound like that? Hoping theres a fix cause I’m dying to watch this on my tv.

Extracting them writes a new folder containing the working files, so deleting the rars won’t affect the unpacked data. However, I have opted to keep a set of the rars backed up to several DVD+R DL discs. That way, should my DE copies ever get corrupted, I won’t have to spend massive amounts of time downloading them again.

I like the idea of reading the harry potter books to her one chapter at a time though, thats great!
Last year in second grade they read Sorcerer’s Stone. After each chapter the teacher had them write a small summary of the chapter. My daughter really enjoyed that. (So much that we were watching the movie and almost midway in she says “that was chapter 12”. I looked at her sideways and had to get my phone, sure enough that scene was Ch 12).
I finally got around to reading the series this summer and wanted to re-read. She also wanted to read, so we started Chamber of Secrets mid August and are now half way done with Goblet of Fire.
She really enjoys our discussion of last night’s chapter during the ride to school each morning.
I think that’s fantastic and I’m gonna do that with my daughter too!

I think it depends on the parent and on the child. There are some pretty mature elements in even what is the arguably lightest film of the Original Trilogy. Though they are all brief or off screen, Star Wars includes dismemberment, torture, and genocide. I can see how a parent might want to wait a few years, either because of their own values or the sensativity of the individual kiddo.
Very true. Those scenes could be skipped if need be. This is also the reason to break it up. A 4yo most likely won’t sit for a 2hr movie that isn’t Frozen. I think you can skip the objectionable scenes and still have a great movie for a kid.

My 4 year old daughter has recently expressed a big interest in SW, her two best friends are twin boys who are really into it. I was born in 80 so I grew up with it and have always been a huge fan. So today I started thinking that whenever I do show her the whole films (several years from now at least) I want them to be what I saw, the much less adulterated versions on Vhs from my childhood. You know where this is going. I have always resented the stupid things Lucas has added over the years so sat down today to find out where I could get the originals, at least without all the stupid cgi additions and reediting he’s done, in a high quality format with good sound. Impossible. So after hours of research, including finding my way here via Harmy’s stuff and spending a couple hours reading most of this thread, I’m here posting. I don’t have my hands on the files yet, but I just wanted to say thanks to NJVC, Harmy, and all the other people who have made it possible. I can not wait to watch these in my home theater!
One question- before I purchase a bd burner for my MacBook Pro, can I just play the files from my computer on my tv if I have a thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and run it into my onkyo receiver? Thanks in advance!

What I did with my girls (then 4 and 6, more so for the 4yo) was to break up the movies in 30-45 min chunks. After each we would talk about what was going on. (I’ve done the same with the Harry Potter books, a chapter or two each night with discussion the following morning). With my two I didn’t feel there were any scenes that needed to be skipped from any of the movies.
They are 9 and 11 now and are big fans, the 9yo a rabid fan.We did finally get to the Prequel movies (ugh), but they both read the novelizations first. Funny thing is that about 15 min into Phantom Menace they both noted how silly it was and that the book is much better.
Yeah I just think there are some things in it that are a bit much for a 4 year old, at least my 4 year old. Violence, some scary stuff, etc. It’ll be one of those things where we might watch scenes and bits here and there for a while.

Oh, almost forgot. If you do manage to get your hands on an NJVC set, they are ISO files, which you should be able to mount as a virtual drive and also play without burning if you wish. It will do so with menus and everything.
For that, my experience on a PC is that Leawo Blu-ray Player works better. But Leawo is also free and the MAC OS version of it is here.

I am late to this party. Long time lurker, but first time poster. Been after the full BD50 + Doc set for a while…willing to help donate for anyone to get these links back or post them elsewhere online. Having trouble tracking them down without a MySpleen account (not to mentioN tehparadox being gone!)
Sub’d as I might be into that as well. Discouraging to see that myspleen invite request thread. 140 pages long and nothing but people unapologetically clamoring all over themselves. Sheesh.
Thanks so much for the welcome and the reply! You make a good point and if I’m not successful in getting ahold of the bd set I will go that route. But, as I’m sure you already know, there is something about the physical, tactile sets- the permanence, the ability to simply pop them into my bd player and use them as a normal bd, the incredible wealth of menus and all the options that brings, the extras, etc. etc. Add to that the unbelievable artwork that is available here as well. I already have an Epson R1800 that is capable of printing on the discs. We shall see, maybe I’ll end up with the bd stuff, but if not then the Harmy option is what I would do.
