And so Han Solo still has his purple pants at the end? I thought Verta pretty well corrected that, and showed how he did it, no?
I don't know where Mike "fixed" that and what it has to do with this version but, no, he doesn't - he has navy blue pants, actually quite a bit less purple than on the IB print, now that I'm looking at it.
Harmy, I think he's referring to the video that Mike posted on his forum where he color-corrected that shot from the blu-ray.

Well it was the 80s
It wasn't in the 70s I can tell you that.

Most curious. There will be a version that uses the Blu-Ray transfer up shortly. The HDTV version is good, but the color timing is wrong (at least, the scan of the print is way too blue). FYI.
This is a quick summary of the different shots (aside from the titles):
Here's a fun fact. There are about 1:37 seconds of unique footage in the U.S. cut (not just the ending). Among others, we have:
* B/W Extra shot of boy with fishing pole
* B/W Shot of old-man pumping air without talking (cont)
* B/W Shot of both old-man and boy pumping air wide angle (cont)
* Painting the apartment and talking on the phone
* Replacement shot of the girl stirring in bed
* Hero turns to face girl on the boat near the end
* Girl looks at hero on boat near the end (cont)
* Replacement end sequence
Additionally, all titles were changed to English and the opening credits were recreated. Color timing is far different in the U.S. cut as well.

I would be eternally grateful to anyone who captured the netflix streaming presentation of the USA Version in HD and would let me watch it. :-)
As noted, I have the HD broadcast version from one of the HDTV movie channels (can't recall which), and it was scanned from a film print. The image quality is good, but a little dirty in areas and the color timing needs to be fixed. I'm fairly certain the NetFlix streamed version is the same. I just can't do the work, but I would presume someone on these forums can?
Surely there is at least one Luc Besson fan here with some skills? Or perhaps those who are Besson fans don't like the U.S. version?
To each their own, I guess. I am surprised there are not more Luc Besson fans out there who want to make a quality version of the U.S. re-edit. Much more enjoyable version, but I am biased I know ;)

The fonts used on the theatrical subs cannot be recreated using any existing font--they need to be hand-modified in Photoshop, so a straight SRT-to-subtitle conversion is simply impossible if you want good-looking results.
Well, this is not entirely true. Has the original on-screen subtitle font been identified? It will likely have been a photo-film font supplied to Lucasfilms. I can supply a digital font that can be used if a consensus of the original font name can be supplied. Drop shadow and 'stretch' included and everything.
As noted, I have the HD version of the US-edit and can make it available to someone with (a) more skills than I, and (b) ability to finish the project.
Likely the studios handed over that HD transfer to NetFlix not knowing what they were handing over.
That being said, you would only need the HD transfer to use as a reference point, and for the audio. All video could/should be taken from the DVD or Blu-Ray of the European Long Version. Far better picture.

You guys will be happy to hear that this is where I'm currently at in the editing process :-)
Good stuff! From this screenshot, am I to presume that you are, or are not going to fix the colour to remove Han's purple pants and too green foliage in the background (per mverta's discussion)?
Anyone working on the workprint of The Dark Crystal?
There is a Monochrome 704x352, mono audio 44.1khz AAC version float about on the interwebs.
Surely someone has a better version?
Anyone that has these reels *needs* to have them baked before playing them. Otherwise, the oxide will start shedding, and likely ruin your tape(s) and certainly gum-up the playback heads.
Just an FYI from experieince.
Here's the original ESB 21 in. x 29 ½ in. Kodalith, for reference.
Anyone fancy taking the European or Directors Cut of Luc Besson’s “Le Grand Bleu” and creating the U.S. edit? Or has this already been done? I’m happy to supply all source materials necessary.
Reprtedly edited down by Robert Evans? Dunno.
I have the HDTV broadcast from a few years ago, and I believe this is what is being streamed on NetFlix at present. The HD transfer is not so great, needs better color timing, etc.
