Alien: Covenant - IMAX edition [spoRv] (Released)
Time

Just watched this, you’ve done a great job, I do like movies with the expanded IMAX scenes as they enhance the spectacle of certain sequences. Shame that the subtitles couldn’t be totally removed but I’m sure that one day a clean release will surface.
As for the YAO, it is a great addition and I think all retail Blu-ray with shifting ratios should have this, although I probably wouldn’t use it.
Nice release Sporv, keep up the good work.

Info Wanted: Spartacus (film) - how bad is the blu ray?
Time

News from thedigitalbits.com

While it’s true that the screening has been cancelled, we’ve confirmed through our industry sources that a new restoration of Spartacus has been completed and that Universal Studios Home Entertainment is planning to release it on Blu-ray later in 2015.

Ok I did a quick-and-dirty capture of EPIX's VOD presentation this morning and here are the results.

...

I made a 14GB MKV (1080i/ac3) of the capture.

I wonder how well just using that capture to fill in the rest of the frame for the IMAX shots would work, or using it to fill in the aforementioned missing frames/sections of the screen that have BTS stuff in the commentary.

I'm going to be working on that tonight for sure. It's going to help so much. Even if it's a poor bitrate, we only need a tiny amount of image to cover up the BTS stuff, so hopefully it would all balance out.

All this work for a terrible movie. I love it.

I'm looking forward to this IMAX version, this is how the blu ray should have been released, along with M-I Ghost Protocol, another J.J. Abrams movie that he thinks looks better in 2.35:1.  At least with talented people like yourself this is becoming a reality, good luck.

I've a few suggestions, Dark.

The Arrival (The Blu-ray sucks cause it has over DNR/EE, the LD has tons of features, there ought to be an HDTV out there which keeps the film grain.)

Logan's Run (Could port over all missing extras from the LD.)

RoboCop 2 (Could add some extra features? IDGAF about RoboCop 3.)

HellBoy (Theatrical Cut with Theatrical Cut DVD extras. Just the ones exclusive to the DVD ported over. Would make a great second disc.)

Independence Day (Extended Version?)

The Maltese Falcon (1931)/ Satan Met a Lady (Two previous versions of The Maltese Falcon prior to the Humphrey Bogart film. No idea if these have been shown 1080i. Can be on a single BD50.)

The Punisher (2004) (Extended Cut. No idea if this has ever been broadcast.)

SE7EN (Same transfer from US/UK Blu-ray but all Criterion Laserdisc extras.)

The Two Jakes (Chinatown sequel.)

TIME BANDITS (Criterion and other DVD extras ported over to the best BD Picture Quality release? Maybe not cause of the UK Arrow BD.)

GHOSTBUSTERS II (BD25?)

Donnie Brasco (Theatrical Cut.)

The Fisher King (With all Criterion LD extras.)

Gallipoli (1981) (1080i HDTV broadcast is beautiful with film grain retained. With all DVD extras?)

The Karate Kid Part III

HIGHLANDER III: The Sorcerer

LETHAL WEAPON 1-3 ("Director's Cuts". Second discs with the Lethal Weapon Collection set.)

Duck, You Sucker! a.k.a. A Fistful of Dynamite a.k.a. Once Upon a Time in a Revolution

SUPERGIRL (All cuts in HD? Seamlessly branched BD50 with all DVD extras.)

TROY (Theatrical Cut. From HD DVD.)

Could be more but that's all I can think of at the moment.

EDIT: Why not Return of the Living Dead II and 3?

I would love to see The Fisher King supplements, such a pity that they have never been ported over to DVD or Blu-Ray.

Other films I would love to get the "Team Blu" treatment are:

Jaws 2

Solaris (2002)

and a directors cut of Tombstone

Keep up the good work.

Escape From New York [spoRv] *BD-25 RELEASED*
Time

I burned the BDMV & Certificate folders with ImgBurn to a BD-25 then played it on my panasonic DMP-BD60.

The first thing I noticed was that it asked me if I wanted to play AVCHD video files or Picture files, which is strange for a blu-ray disc. After selecting AVCHD, the disc played the animated menus fine and I could select the audio or scenes select sub menus, however after selecting a scene the player would freeze for a few seconds before playing the Trailer!  Starting again at the main menu the movie played from the beginning when I pressed play, but like Matt_Stevens I couldn't ff, rw scan or chapter forward.

The other thing I noticed was that the commentaries were not selectable from the audio menu and I couldn't find how to play the trailer, even though it did play inadvertently.

After looking at the profile level maybe it's because it's 4.1 and my player prefers 4.0 which seems to be the default setting in multiAVCHD.

As for the movie itself, this is definitely the best version out there and head & shoulders above my Region B blu-ray, many thanks.
