ah man, i need to pre-order my disc!

i was gonna get the steelbook from best buy to match the rest of my new movies, but they are only shipping the 4K disc, the 1080p you need to pickup in store, and none of the local stores have it? what the heck! must be pushing that 4K disc pretty hard. Maybe i’ll shell out the extra bucks so that i can have it delivered 😄

I ordered the blu-ray version for home delivery, but I did it back in December. I might cancel and upgrade to future proof, but I shot my Star Wars budget on Figuarts Last Jedi Luke and Figuarts Chewbacca.

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread

OK, I finally saw the remaining episodes and here’s my opinion of the series as a whole:

I think Star Wars Rebels was an overall OK series, but also very frustrating on a personal level to me because it was too risk averse many times, so much so that I think it’s a miracle Kanan died at all, with Filoni himself stating in a recent interview that Yoda telling Luke that he was the last of the Jedi was not the reason for his death, as if implying that if he wanted to he would’ve had Kanan be alive throughout the timeline of the OT. The one plot point that sticks out for me the most was Ezra’s dark tendencies in the first two seasons, which after the season 2 finale led me to believe that Ezra would be more enthralled in the dark side as season 3 progressed leading to some sort confrontation with Kanan but no, that plotline was solved instantly at the start of season 3, what a cop out. Another thing I disliked about season 3 was the Bendu, a character who claims to be in the middle of the light and dark side of the Force, yet only helps the good guys and in his one interaction with a bad guy he gives Thrawn yet another speech about how the bad guys will lose, in this case predicting Thrawn’s defeat, so much for neutrality.
Finally there’s Ahsoka, AKA the most shoehorned character in Star Wars history, being ever present in Filoni’s stories and still being alive even when it defies all logic and reason. Seriously, I know Filoni loves her and she’s his pet character but enough is enough, Ahsoka needs to die. Are you telling me that after escaping Malachor she just sat back and let the Rebellion take care of the Empire when a skilled and knowledgeable Force wielder such as herself would have come in handy say, helping Luke’s training to further hone his skills and such? COME ON!
The finale was alright save for the revelation that Hera gave birth to Kanan’s son. WTF? Kanan and Hera spent the whole series flirting but I got the impression that their onscreen kiss was their first and only moment of intimacy. Did Kanan use the Force from the afterlife to impregnate Hera? Cause that’s the only explanation that makes any sense, otherwise it seems they were having quickies throughout their many missions.

Honestly at this point I’m kinda done with Filoni and his risk-averse kid-friendly stories where everything always turns out for the better to such a degree it’s a wonder the bad guys are successful at all.

I agree with this. I however did love some parts of the series. When they brought Vader into it they made him more of a badass when so much of the post PT books and stuff made him basically a wimp. Obi-Wan vs Maul was another high point: the duel was perfect. Brining Thrawn into it was great. I enjoyed how he played Phoenix Squad as chumps until Ezra HAD to win just because.

In my head, after the space whales jumped the Chimaera away, Thrawn shot Ezra in his dollar store knockoff head and used his tactical genius to kill the space whales, then returned to the Emperor and was assigned to the Unknown Regions to set up the shipyards and manufacturing that the First Order used to build their armies.

Oh and then when Sabine and Ahsoka went on their odyssey, he killed them too and had Ahsoka’s head stuffed and made into a trophy.

Should Dave Filoni Run The Creative Team at LucasFilm

People that say he won’t kill characters he cares about: He has written two shows that have been wedged up against main film continuity. He has used characters from the main film continuity and is unable to kill them.

So, basically, the only characters he is free to kill is the ones he creates as the main characters of his stories. That’s depressing.

Ahsoka should really have died facing Vader. There was nothing left of Anakin, that burned away on Mustafar. She meant nothing to him, and unlike when Kylo says it- there is truth in that.

I still have that envelope with the coupons, too. 😉 I found it in a drawer like 3 days ago. There was also a form to fill out to send away for a free vhs copy of ‘the making of star wars’ which I did. The cover was made to match the ‘faces’ covers and it had a new narration by Don LaFontaine, replacing William Conrad.

I thought the Making of Star Wars VHS was from Corn Pops cereal? I remember sending away for it. Fruit Loops got you Han as a Stormtrooper and Lays chips the Spirit of Obi-Wan.

You’re probably right. I sent away for all that stuff, too. The Han Stormtrooper, the Obi-Wan force ghost, etc. And then, Doritos had all those lenticular discs that I HAD to get every one of! (I never thought I could actually get sick of eating Doritos!)

It was Corn Pops

My dad liked them and so did I so it was pretty easy to get the two boxes to send away for it.

Anyone know why they changed the narrator?

The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **
Time

Someone on reddit got the novelization early and here are some tidbits I found interesting. Spoilers.

The novel starts with a dream sequence of an alternate timeline Luke. A Luke that dragged the droids out of the farm to give them to the Empire and lives in happy? boredom with Camie. So no wife, but this means he is not dreaming about any other wifes(?).

Hux would rather get rid of any old Imperial (here Edrison Peavey) straight away, they had their use in the past, but the FO has grown past them, according to Hux. Starfighters are at the ready, but only held back so Hux can show off his big gun.

Han made a Leia figure out of wood the night before the Battle of Endor. It is burned or used during a brief memorial for Han during the evacuation.

Rey is not worried about Luke: She’s good at two things. Salvaging broken things and waiting.

Toddler Kylo often played with the dice or showed it around in adoration of his father. Kylo would break stuff around the house with the Force while growing up. Leia and Han would worry behind closed doors, which Kylo did not like.

After the Galactic Civil War (OT trilogy) some new states formed. The FO shut some down as well as ‘hermetic kingdoms in the Unknown Regions’. Ofcourse we knew they conquered many planets there.

Luke only took padawans when he took Ben as apprentice. He thought he was ready then.

Luke wonders if he should be afraid of the pupil that wants to destroy him or the one that wants to be him.

Rey accesses Kylo’s powers, but Kylo finds Rey’s memories.

Luke explores the Cosmic Force after having reconnected with the Living Force. Rey is a clear instrument of the will of the cosmic force. He also finds Leia again in the Force. The will of the Cosmic Force was asleep after the end of the Sith and awoke during Luke’s exile. Living Force is the energy of life. Cosmic Force is the will of the universe.

Before Reylo handtouching scene. Luke: “Rey, you were right. I’m coming with you.”

Luke has donned the robes and lit the torch before several times and failed each time. Rey arrived after just such an attempt.

Luke and R2 searched for ancient lore for many years

Snoke muses about visions of the future in general and their interpretation. Be careful or die. He learned this when he was young and the galaxy was different. At an old age he knows how much is left out in visions.

Snoke has left legions of uncounted dead adversaries that underestimated him.

Snoke was an unexpected leader. The Imperials did not foresee that he would be the one. Not Rax, Sloane, the political fanatic Ormes Apolin or Brendol Hux. As potential leaders they were all co-opted, sidelined or destroyed. Only Armitage Hux (our general Hux) was left, who is a total tool.

The rise of the First Order was mostly improvisation, not a grand plan.

Snoke does not believe in Kylo anymore, he is a mix of light and dark, but unstable, will rethink his future after victory.

Snoke noticed Kylo’s surpise about the Force bond reveal, but then senses a calm and balanced Kylo. Kylo’s biggest flaw has been restored. Snoke thinks Kylo can only be great if he uses his power to steer his own destiny.

Kylo thinks that Rey leaving Kylo alive will be her demise.

Rey’s error was that she thought Kylo’s turn would be simple. He only rebelled against Snoke, but the future holds a range of possibilities.

Leia knows Luke is not there for real when they touch.

Hux only knows the fake story about the Jedi and the coup from ROTS. The FO’s child soldiers are the legacy of the Jedi and clone training regimes.

Luke thinks he hears the words ‘Let go Luke’ just before he vanishes on Ahch-To

Rey has no compassion for Kylo anymore and severed the connection between them.

Autumn changes to winter and the caretakers reminisce about earlier outsiders, kind and mad ones and long times without visits, but people keep coming. Rey will be recalled as Luke’s destructive and rude niece (earlier joke). The caretakers store Luke’s weapon (his saber or staff?) and star compass. Edit: Some of the things Luke brought actually came from Ahch-To originally.
