Because of harmy I’ve been able to show my boys the OUT.

Unfortunately, a friend of theirs recently showed them the 2004 DVD Special Edition.

They now prefer that version.

That friend has been banned from my house.

You already showed them the OUT first and then later on someone showed them the SE and now you banned that kid from your house because of that? That is just stupid. They would see the SE sooner or later, whether you like it or not. Acting like a paranoid dictator and trying to censor things like that is obsessive behaviour. Ironically, reminds me of the behaviour of a certain person who did not want us ever to see theatrical versions again.

Umm…the comment about the kid being banned was tongue in cheek.

Apologies if that wasn’t obvious

I wouldn’t offer the good snacks to him/her. My little cousin said Jar Jar was really funny (He’s 8 and watched the Clone Wars on Netflix) and I joked I was tempted to push him out of the car. But I took him to the Force Awakens, he became obsessed with TIE Fighters and everything worked out great.

because that’s always been part of George’s original plan.

So was, supposedly, the praxis effect.

Heh. I mean it was one thing George hasn’t changed his tune on over the years.

Yeah, the droids were always meant to be in every saga film. Now I can see them just doing R2-D2, as Anthony Daniels is getting older and they will probably go with 10,11,12 in 10-15 years.

Star Wars moving forward without Ms. Fisher
Time

I think I read who become Poe would have had the Millennium Falcon if Harrison wouldn’t come back and the Luke McGuffin would have been for another Jedi if Mark said no. I do remember Carrie being the first to agree to return. Mark and Harrison took more time to convince.

It just hit me that seeing the first teaser/trailer for The Last Jedi will be super emotional. Seeing Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia one last time. Bittersweet.

I’m praying for no prequel references. That’s all. I honestly don’t care about anything else.

I don’t mind small ones, like in TFA there was talk of balance in the Force and mention of a Clone Army. That’s fine. Even Bail Organa in Rogue One was ok- he had such a small role in the PT that he was untainted.

4K restoration on Star Wars

Again, I don’t think it was ever plan. It was a test and proof of concept for the prequels.

You know Lucas got a hard on thinking of putting more CGI in the Original Trilogy. I’m shocked he didn’t replace Nein Nunb with Jar Jar in Jedi. Or alter Vader’s dialog to change “Obi-Wan once thought as you do” to “Padme, your mother, once thought as you do.”

4K restoration on Star Wars
Time

Replacing Empire puppet Yoda with CGI would make all the “Han Shot First” stuff look quaint. It would be blasted by every nerd outlet, with only the most hardcore Prequel Justice Warriors for it.

Kennedy has no reason to even pay lip service to Lucas anymore. He called them white slavers and went off on TFA when it was in theaters.

Hopefully a 4K restoration was completed with Kennedy at the helm: Lucas’ was probably done on the cheap (like 2004) and with not much care to making the movies look right. Kennedy at least knows you have to spend some money once in a while.

If you want to find out what George Lucas was thinking when he made the PT

I think if George could have, he would have made the originals exactly like he made the prequels.

It shouldn’t be underestimated that Lucas’ creative judgement became heavily influenced by his fatherhood since the early eighties. Ewoks anyone? During the Phantom Menace production phase, his son Jett was at age of 4 to 6. Jett inspired him to create Jar Jar Binks’ name. Phantom Menace became so childish because he wanted that Jett enjoys the movie. During the Clones production phase his two daughters had to live trough puberty —> Anakin & Padme romance. One of Lucas’ daughters had a crush on N’Sync so Lucas wanted to put them into the Geonosis Arena battle as backround characters. Lucas’ alibi “I make movies for children” can be changed to “I make movies for MY children”.

I’ve often thought his brain turned to mush when he became a parent.

I’m pretty impressed by the Tarkin in R1. […] I bought it! Not as Peter Cushing, but as the character of Tarkin.

It’s apparently true that most men are focused mainly on visuals and technical details. That’s what we read all over the net, “CGI this, CGI that”. For me the biggest deparature from original Tarkin/Cushing was the voice… oh, how I missed his rrr’s 😉 …a distinct accent from a person born 100 years ago.

Yes, the voice was a bit off. Stanton tried his best and it sounded better than he did for Tarkin in Rebels.

I saw this three times and it got better the third time. The second time, I was sick, the theater seats were uncomfortable, the projection sucked and my little cousin insisted on sitting way in the back (I took him because his parents didn’t want to go see it and he wouldn’t have gotten to). The third time, I was in VIP seating in a good theater with decent projection and had a supply of cough drops and Cherry Vanilla Coke to keep me from feeling like garbage.
