True Romance - Quentin Tarantino Cut (Released)
Time

Trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aYsJEv4bmU&

As a big fan of the out of order structure of Tarantino’s scripts I always wanted to give this a try. But some deleted scenes play a big part in his original vision of this film and they were only available in pretty low quality. The special edition Arrow released recently brought the scenes still in SD but upscaled to 1080i, so the blend with the official HD footage doesn’t look too jarring. And of course, Tarantino’s original ending was reinstated, which I always preferred anyway.

The edit is done. For those not familiar with Tarantino’s script of this film, here’s the list of changes I made:

  • No voice over of Alabama during the opening credits.
  • Drexl killing his buddies for the drug in the hotel room moved to right after opening credits (inclusion of extended scene where they discuss ‘eating pussy’).
  • Cliff arriving in his trailer and finding Clarence and Alabama waiting for him moved to right after the Drexl scene, first time we see the characters.
  • Dick Ritchie’s audition for TJ Hooker moved to right after Clarence says to Cliff that he needs his help.
  • Cliff pissed off at Clarence after hearing his story moved to after Dick’s audition.
  • Deleted scene of Alabama telling Dick the story of her name added to the scene the trio is driving to the Safari Inn.
  • After they arrive at the hotel and Dick asks Clarence what he’s doing in LA, insertion of “A Few Weeks Ago” title card and we go back to when Clarence and Alabama meet at the movie theater. (note: no such card in Tarantino’s script, but the conversation between them happens differently and it’s made obvious the next scene will take us back in time).
  • Deleted scene of Alabama cheering after the movie is over added after Clarence fills her in on what’s going in the film (Jack Black’s cameo was kept obviously).
  • Deleted scene of Clarence showing Alabama how Spider Man #1 looks like added after he asks if she would like to see it.
  • Deleted scene of Clarence asking Alabama to marry him and she accepting added after she promises she’ll never lie to him again.
  • Deleted scene of Clarence and Alabama in the bathtub talking about Janis Joplin added right after they get married. “Piece of My Heart” is now playing in the background as they are clearly listening to her music during the scene, and Tarantino’s script lists that particular song. (note: in Tarantino’s script that scene was supposed to happen during their first night together, only they’re dancing in Clarence’s room during the talk not in a bubble bath. I thought the bubble bath seemed like something they’d do in their honeymoon rather than in their first night together, so I moved the scene to later in the film).
  • Right after they find out Clarence took the wrong suitcase and Alabama says “these are not my clothes” we go back to the Safari Inn where Dick sees the drug and Clarence asks for his help to sell it.
  • Small deleted scene where we see Dick is appalled at how cool Clarence is with the whole situation he’s in added right after they choose the rollercoaster as the meeting spot.
  • Moved the scene of Virgil appearing at Dick’s house and talking to Floyd to play between the scene post rollercoaster ride where Elliott is sick and Elliott and Clarence talking to Lee Donowitz on the phone.
  • Deleted scene of Vincent Coccotti in the elevator with his gang intrigued at Virgil’s disappearance and telling them to go find out what’s going on and fix the problem added right after Dimes and Nicholson tell their boss about Elliott’s bust and the drug deal with Lee Donowitz. (note: in Tarantino’s script both scenes are intertwined, playing back and forth. I tried to edit them like that but didn’t like the result so they play separately).
  • Insertion of the title card “The Big Day” after Clarence assures Alabama everything will work out for them and before Floyd gives them directions to get to the Beverly Ambassador. (note: in Tarantino’s script the title card appeared before the Clarence and Alabama scene where he tells her he hates airports while he takes care of all the damage Virgil’s done to her. I preferred the title card a little bit later, before they’re ready to leave to the hotel).
  • Deleted scene of Dimes and Nicholson giving more shit to Elliott added to the scene they’re testing the wire in the hotel room.
  • Deleted scene where Clarence changes his mind about selling the drug and decides to leave fearing they might get caught and then changes his mind again and decides to do it added right after Dick sees he brought a gun and asks him about it.
  • Deleted scene of Elliott in the hotel lobby stretching as a way to calm down and concentrate added before the trio enter the lobby and spot him.
  • Original ending reinstated.

BLAIR WITCH 2 - RECUT (UNAVAILABLE)
Time

I’m very sorry, I’ve been away for quite sometime now and had no idea there was so much interest in my edit.
As Vultural just said, I wasn’t satisfied with my edit so I decided to do it all over again from scratch. And yes, I’ve been quite busy with some other stuff so I didn’t have the proper time to work on it.
Hopefully that will change soon. I’ll edit the OP to let people know the edit is unavailable for now. Thanks Vultural for the heads up and thank you all for your interest. I really hope the edit will be up to your expectations.

Help - Sync separate audio track with mkv file
Time

Hello again,

This sounds like a very simple task but I can’t make it work. I’ve been using MKVToolNix-Gui to mux audio and video but the audio won’t sync.
Audio file is a foreign track that contains the french dub of the film that I would like to include in the mkv file. Audio was extracted from an avi file (Dvdrip). Both files, the Dvdrip and the mkv are identical. Same length, no different logos at the beginning, no extra scenes.

Here’s the media info of the extracted audio file:

Format : AC-3
Format/Info : Audio Coding 3
Commercial name : Dolby Digital
File size : 287 MiB
Duration : 2 h 5 min
Overall bit rate mode : Constant
Overall bit rate : 320 kb/s

And the media info of the video:

I’ve been told to change the fps of the video to 25 on MKVToolNix before mux since it’s possible the Dvdrip was made from a PAL disc. It didn’t work, audio is still out of sync. Any ideas what am I doing wrong?

Info: Analog Home Video Releases of Films That Feature Additional Footage That've Never Been Digitally Released
Time

Child’s Play 2 & 3 had alternate/deleted scenes on TV that are not available on home video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wP8XFtExCU

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqHlBx5SIok

The fully uncut version of Basic Instinct 2 was never released anywhere. Before the film’s release, some of those scenes leaked on the internet in bad quality but the scenes were never integrated into the film in any way. You can find the scenes online on +18 platforms such as Pornotube, Pornohub, etc.

A few years later, is it still possible to get the synced mono audio from the Criterion LD? And will it sync with the new UHD release?

I did a while back. I PM’d the OP but never heard back. Apparently they’re a very closed community and don’t like to share their stuff with random posters.

THE VANISHING: RECUT (Released)

Trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZV1pHtEKQM

I’m a big fan of Tim Krabbe’s horror novel The Golden Egg and George Sluizer’s 1988 movie adaptation Spoorloos. That shocking ending gave me nightmares for weeks. The 1993 american remake didn’t work. The story is too blunt and tragic for the Hollywood standards, and to change that is to kill the most terrifying aspect of the film. I do think the US version has a lot going for it tho. Jeff Bridges is completely terrifying and Kiefer is a more likeable lead (which would make the character’s fate even more painful to watch).
That’s why I decided to recut the film, removing the dumb changes and preserving the essence of the story and its terrifying conclusion. I’m pretty sure it’s been done before, but I decided to do my own version and share it with whoever might be interested.

Changes:

  • Decided to follow the original film’s structure, so my cut starts with the disappearence and then we’re introduced to Barney.
  • A lot of ‘relationship’ scenes between Jeff and Rita were cut since Rita is not a crucial character here.
  • Rita disappears from the story after she leaves Jeff for good.
  • Cut out the scene of Barney following Rita to the apartment and approaching from behind while she changes the message on the answering machine. It seems careless to me that the character would try to kidnap her right there. I believe that was only included to add more tension to the film.
  • And of course, the whole Hollywood ending was removed and I tried to recreate the original ending the best way I could.

BLAIR WITCH 2 - RECUT (UNAVAILABLE)

THE EDIT IS UNAVAILABLE FOR THE TIME BEING. I WAS UNHAPPY WITH IT SO I DECIDED TO DO IT AGAIN FROM SCRATCH. THAT WILL TAKE SOME TIME AND I’VE BEEN BUSY WITH SOME OTHER STUFF LATELY. HOPEFULLY THAT WILL CHANGE SOON

Intro Comparison:

I’ve always been a fan of the 2000 Blair Witch sequel, Book of Shadows. Now that the internet is talking about the witch again thanks to the new film, I’ve decided to make my own attempt to “fix” all the issues in the film removing all the footage imposed by the studio and a few other things I didn’t like. In short, I removed the unnecessary gore and the cheap scares to make the film more psychological and ambiguous, like the director originally intended.

Changes:

  • Inserted some title cards during the opening interviews with more info about the Blair Witch phenomenon and some background information about character Jeff.
  • Removed all scenes of Jeff in the mental institution.
  • Removed all the gore that intercuts with the opening credits. Opening music changed to Frank Sinatra’s “Witchcraft”.
  • Removed all the murder flashbacks that play thru the film.
  • Removed Kim staring at the horrible CGI owl at the foundation.
  • Removed Tristen’s vision of the drowned little girl at the hospital (cheesy and not scary at all)
  • Removed the white flash of the Coffin Rock bodies appearing in the footage and Stephen saying bored it “reminded him of Coffin Rock”. Makes no sense since they never videotaped the murders there.
  • Removed Stephen’s vision of the little girl walking backwards on the bridge (same reason, cheesy and not scary). Instead he only hears the shriek and gets startled but when he looks again it’s gone.
  • Removed Erica clawing Stephen’s stomach. Instead the hallucination ends after she asks him about his markings.
  • Removed rednecks throwing rocks at the van because of that blaring rock music that completely kills the mood of the subsequent scene when Kim sees the kids walking on the road. Kept the kids but changed the soundtrack to Carter Burwell’s score.
  • Removed Kim finding the bloody nail file in the beer bag as it gives away what happened at the store.
  • All the flashbacks of Jeff drooling that white liquid were replaced by other moments of him in the hospital. The drool looks tasteless and stupid in my opinion.
  • Removed child Erica staring at Stephen hanging from the broken bridge saying “You know who it is” as it makes no sense.
  • Removed the owl crashing the window as it’s just out of the blue and adds nothing to the plot.
  • All the interrogation scenes were moved to the end of the film.
  • End credits music replaced by “10538 Overture” by Electric Light Orchestra. I like Poe’s “Haunted” but hated all the blaring rock music that played afterwards during the shaky camera footage, and Poe’s song wouldn’t work in that footage, so I’ve chose a song that would fit the whole ending credits sequence.

My idea here is to get rid of all the fake build ups/red herrings and dumb jump scares to turn the film into a more focused supernatural thriller. I also removed most of Bughuul’s appearances and made its presence more subtle. I think the way the original cut overexposed the character made its figure less scary. Also rearranged a few scenes in a way that things would make more sense.

Changes:

  • Moved the scene of Ellison watching his old interview about Kentucky Blood to the first night in the house.
  • Removed false build up scene of Ellison hearing someone moving and finding Ashley looking for the bathroom. Also, scene of Ellison and Ashley talking in her room right after that moved earlier in the film.
  • Ellison phones the police immediately after watching the first reel of film instead of after the second.
  • All of Trevor’s ‘night terror’ scenes were removed (stupid red herring).
  • Removed some of Deputy So and So’s ‘funny’ remarks.
  • Removed most of Bughuul’s appearences, especially the ‘scary’ ones. I don’t find it scary and makes its presence less mysterious and creepy.
  • The two nights Ellison wakes up and finds the projector rolling were merged into one night. Also removed the stupid scene of the child ghosts running around him.
  • Removed the shots showing "Extended Cut Endings’ written on the envelop. Too dumb.

Now that we finally got the return of Twin Peaks to TV, I’ve decided to release my extended edit of Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me, reintegrating some of my favorite deleted moments back into the film following David Lynch/Robert Engels’ shooting script. I know it’s been done before but this edit only integrates scenes that IMO shouldn’t have been cut in the first place.
