Star Wars Trilogy SE bluray color regrade (a WIP)
Time

I’m happy to report I’ve come up with a filter that is very effective at getting rid of that pesky color noise. I really like this regrade, especially considering how awful the bluray looks for this shot (any shot really). The sand looks like sand, and R2-D2 and C-3PO are the way I remember them. 😃

Ps. Note how in the bluray C-3PO is almost the same color as the sand.

Here’s a screenshot comparison between filtered and unfiltered:

Not sure what you’re doing there Doc, but I like it!

That’s there in the print - I suppose it’s something to do with the subtitle compositing, because the change occurs on the exact frame the subtitle comes on and there’s another, less noticeable one on the frame it disappears.

I don’t see the jump in the new Grindhouse release, but I can see the static grain. I’m guessing you cut from the Blu-ray to the 35mm right when the subtitles start? If so, maybe use the 35mm for all of that shot?

Also, watching ESB, I still see some issues with some GOUT replacements. Will you eventually replace those with 35mm elements?

00:27:17 Rancor’s arm on the right side of the screen looks artifacty and blurry
00:30:25 sail barge color flickers
00:36:24 blurry stars/ships
01:44:37 Emperor color doesn’t match previous shot, unlike JSC which is more consistent from previous shot.

But, WOW! 5 minor issues, You’ve really outdone yourself Harmy!

Preserving the...<em>cringe</em>...Star Wars Holiday Special (Released)
Time

This is unbelievable! A station copy of the master. Just one generation removed from the best copy there is (if it still exists).

Great to see the Boba Fett cartoon in such high quality without all the DVNR that the Blu-ray extras has. Thanks for the heads up Skot, and thanks to EditDroid, wherever you are! Search complete.

It appears that you used selective color and replaced some pink with beige? This causes faces to have really odd color combinations. You might consider an alternative color correction tool to deal with the pink in this one.

Actually, I have scanned so far..

Star Wars: Multiple Technicolor IB prints, Eastman, a smelly VS print, and an incomplete LPP, 16mm on poly and acetate, Super8 on acetate. Another two IB prints awaiting scanning.

Empire: Eastman, Fuji, 16mm on acetate, a faded reel of dailies, Super8 mute print on poly

Jedi: LPP x 2, 16mm on acetate, and I have another two prints waiting in the wings for my financial situation to improve.

And I would gladly give them all a backup home for you!
