Idea: 'Salem's Lot' (1979) - a theatrical version preservation?
Time
Scared the life out of me when it was first on TV. Couldn't sleep for a week after Part 1 and never saw Part 2, the conclusion.
Years later I hired it on video. Fell asleep during the first part and woke up to a tapping noise. It was the guy floating up to the window in the fog. Scared the life out of me again. I've bought it on DVD and am yet to see the end. A longer cut would be great!

dark_jedi, you've done a mans job with this transfer. I haven't watched it all the way through as I've had some trouble writing it to dvd, but that is a problem my end.
Thanks for your efforts, it is soooo nice to see this film again, and I do mean see. The transfer is gorgeous.

Are you taking requests for version 2.0?

The missing scenes tracked in from laserdisc & letterboxed/manipulated?
- Full tongue scene
- Condom scene
- Credits

The DVD Rom stuff converted to be viewable in a standalone player?
Lay the soundtrack over the film, like an isolated score.
Use footage from the new transfer to re do some of the DVD-Rom stuff.

Have you tried 'Video Enhancer' to increase the proportions of small file resolutions - 320x240 to 640x480? Sometimes it can work a treat.

Thanks again.

Official Release Thread - Alien Appendix - Updated with #2 info (Released)
Time
Wow! Well, I'd just like to say that I thoroughly enjoyed watching this.
Nearly everything seemed to fit. The revised score and production audio, coupled with lots of new visual treats all worked together, and I thought that it zipped along at a nice pace. I even preferred some of the chosen cuts and pacing to Mr. Scotts. It may be that it was new or some another reason but I found myself noticing the score more here and it was great to hear some of the music sequences play out. I found that the longer segments improved the flow and I enjoyed spending more time with these characters.

Where did all of the extra stuff come from? There seemed to be a lot of it and peppered thoughout the film to keep, at least, my interest. Were the alternate opening credits created for this or had they appeared somewhere before? It has been a while since I looked at the Quadrilogy extras. Is there a list available of the source material?

I did find that I kept wanting to hear the final audio mix in places and wonder if the segments exist to create a more complete mix of the alternate score, on-set audio and sound effects, coupled with an extended cut of the film. For instance, I wanted to hear the sound of keys being pressed on the computer terminal. This would fall into the 'creative' category rather than 'preservation' though.

Great work guys! Keep it up and the hilarious easter egg was a nice touch.

Info Wanted: Grim Tales (Rik Mayall), Marmalade Atkins & Kenny Everett - anyone done any preservations?
Time

This is a bit of a wishlist but I would love to see these collected together and preserved.
on UKNova, there is a Educating Marmalade torrent and, while it is great to have seen some of the episodes again, it would be even nicer to see them well preserved.

A holy grail find would be the Kenny Everett Video Show episodes. The released DVD through Umbrella wasn’t up to much IMHO.

Grim Tales? I thought that Rik Mayall was great in this and wondered if anyone had collected the tapes or recorded from TV.

Anyone have any of this stuff and be interested in making good captures? I could volunteer to make captures if source is available, at the moment though, they would be made via an Archos DVP.

Cheers.

FAN EDIT REQUEST THREAD - Post your dream Fan Edits Here!

How about a stripped down Starship Troopers, taking out all of the character guff? Mostly an effects reel, with some semblence of a story left in. I like a lot of the stuff in this movie, but the '90210 in space' parts make it mostly unwatchable for me.

Could segments of the sequel be added as a B story occuring on the the night side of the planet?

Idea & Info: a Preservation of Alien Evolution doco?
Time
Triffid,

In regard to 'Smoking or Non Smoking', it is Hudson making a joke. Not really sarcastic.
He has people locations on the screen in front of him (like someone would have if they were taking a reservation for an aeroplane seat), he is just playing, being silly, by pretending to be making seating arrangements.

'Stop your grinnin' and drop your linen'
loosely re-worded could be:
'Stop smile(ing) and drop (remove, take off) your clothing'.

I don't know where this line could have originated, however, it would be spoken by a man to a woman before sex.

In the context of the film, it makes no sense. He could have said 'Stop what you are doing. I have a result from my search on this computer. Now we are ready for the next step', Hudson is just trying to use a clever line and be funny. Tough boys always talk about sex etc.

Cheers.

BLADE RUNNER: The Unauthorized OFF-WORLD Box Set (Released)
Time
Wow. This is looking to be VERY interesting.

I haven't been around here for all that long and it is nice to see all of the pre-planning and input that goes on with these releases.

I'm working on, kind of, a flythrough of the souvenir book at the moment and we'll see what comes of that. With luck it will be better than looking at page after page of text and images.

And you know, when completed, as this is planned to be a four disc set (a pretty hefty download), I may not get to see this stuff, but gee it is nice to be around when it is being put together.

Cheers

Can I make a request?

A stills gallery?
Text based, readable scans of articles?
Ridlygrams?
Preproduction art?
Storyboards?

I've recently seen an original trailer (I think it was on the DigitalFreakNYCs HD release) and it was rather jittery and scratchy. Maybe someone has a better copy of it somewhere? I've had some success fixing jittery sequences using AfterEffects, and, I am no longer set up to do this kinda thing. Anyone else able to?

Just thought I'd ask.

'Smoking or Non-Smoking' is a refence to common dialogue used when offering seating assignments, like at a restaurant. Or when offering someone something.
An example might be - 'Good evening Sir. You'd like a seat? Would that be in the Smoking or Non-Smoking section?'

Aa bit like, when you ask for a burger at Mc Donalds. They always (or used to) ask 'Do you want fries with that?'

I can't actually think of the exact dialogue placement in that scene but that's how I understand it.

All this Alien talk is interesting and an extended cut would be great. Anyone know of a site to look at known and unknown missing scenes?

Cheers

Rik,

This looks great. The cover is fantastic. I've always thought that that was the best promotional art out there.

Hes there only ever been one recording of the 'Denver' workprint? (Some guy sitting in the theatre filming it?). DigitalFreakNYC, I agree, it is largely unwatchable.
Mitch is yours different?

Cheers
