Uh oh. Political debate.
Let's not make any force-choke puns, guys.

You can say a lot about Lucas, but when he kills off someone, they stay dead.

I never uploaded them. They were done using a few other fan edits as a basis. I'm sure there's better fan edits out there. :)

The deleted scenes with Padme's family are like the deleted scenes with Biggs and the Tosche Station gang - they help flush out a character a little more. In Star Wars we don't really need them; the Binary Sunset scene and prior dinner scene are all we need to understand Luke's frustrations and motivations. But in Clones such scenes are badly needed.
They could have used those scenes to replace any number of the horrible Naboo scenes ("You are in my very soul. TORMENTING me.")
Oh well, I stopped watching that movie years ago when I did my own edit.
Actually, my favorite scene in the entire PT, hands down, is the deleted scene of the little girls playing with R2. The only damn scene in three movies with any heart, and it gets cut.
^I thought the same thing. I like that first pan down with those slowly building drums. It's my second favorite opening shot after the original.
I like the birth of Vader scene, and how it's intercut with Padme dying.
This current conversation is just........wow. :P
As for the Library of Congress issue: That sure does suck.
Ha! It was 7:30 in the morning when I posted that.
And out of my 31 posts (now 32), I'm pretty sure around 20 of them have been off-topic. :P
But I shall refrain from such foolishness for the time being.

Mmm? I guess I should be flattered that I have a reputation for overeating on these boards, considering I've only made around 10 posts. :P
And please don't take everything I write as 100% raw emotion. I'm not sitting here on my computer screaming to the heavens about how people don't understand me. (*thunder cracks* *raises fists* "Ghostfaaaaaaace!!!!!!")
But yeah, I think it's pretty obvious why people can OK a fan edit like Ady's and disapprove of the SE's.
I can NEVER understand why some people give us a hard time for liking the Revisited projects but disliking the Special Editions. They are two utterly different things.
Ady isn't the one suppressing the originals, and if I'm not mistaken he actually made an Empire theatrical reconstruction.
Sheesh.

Maybe not that extreme. But we'll never see the OUT in the quality it deserves. The damage has been done. They were already deteriorating when GL started making the SE, and 20 more years' worth of damage has been done to these movies. It pisses me off that of all the Blu-rays that will be released in the coming years, the OUT will never be there. We shouldn't resort to preserving these films ourselves, something every film studio has done to all movies that have survived to this day, but LFL ignores because they can't tell they are making a new movie every few years based on the OT, and telling people it is SW, and saying you can go fuck yourself if you don't agree with GL. It's like watching your children slowly die of cancer. I know some of you are going to be upset about that, but that is roughly what is happening to these movies. The quality of these Blu-rays is utter shit and no one can say that because LFL has a gun to their head and telling them to say only good things about this release. Did anyone expect this nightmare scenario 25 years ago? No. No one seems to understand this: I wouldn't be so upset here, on this website, if GL had done the proper work in the first place fuck up the OT with all these SE changes. ... Deleted... And he continues to show no remorse.
Jesus.

Shiiiit!
Something VERY interesting posted on The Digital Bits. It's not about Star Wars, but I'd say it relates:
Spielberg also confirmed again that E.T. is coming to Blu-ray from Universal in 2012, but likely only the original theatrical cut. He asked the audience if they'd care if the "new" version wasn't on the Blu-ray, which generated a big "NO!" Spielberg acknowledged this and said he regrets making the changes he did for the DVD.
There's one phrase I've learned to hate more than any other:
"It's Star Wars on Bluray!"
So many arguments I've read boil down to somebody saying that.
"Sure, the movies still have all the problems of the old DVD's, and Lucas is the only director in the history of cinema to suppress his original movies, BUT IT'S STAR WARS ON BLURAY!"
Nice clip Ady, but nobody's mentioned what I think is the main focus of the clip, and that is:
Threepio no longer breathes! Yes! My biggest pet peeve of the trilogy, besides Vader's jiggly helmet.
I wrote my Amazon review. For what it's worth. Certainly not well-written. :P
"While Lucas and his wacky crew were busy pasting in new "Nooooo!'s" and extra rocks in front of R2D2 (how'd he get back there, anyway?!), they must have forgotten to fix all of the lightsaber color errors created in the 2004 DVD's. Oh wait.....they said they did?
Two shots. Those are the only ones they fixed. Just the two shots they used in the press release........um.........WHY? People on YOUTUBE make consistent lightsaber effects. Jeesh.
Not to mention that this still has all the bad color-timing (blue Hoth) that they did for the DVD's."
Looks like Amazon separated their reviews again (unless I had somehow clicked on the wrong page at first). 230 one-star reviews vs 130 five-star.
I'd like to think this is the last straw when it comes to the tweaks, I don't ever remember THIS much outrage over any of the other changes, but I don't really think anything's going to change. Lucasfilm reminds me of some weird cult (Wal-Mart employees can tell you about that).
Have you guys checked out Amazon? Did they merge a bunch of reviews from other DVD editions together? How much do you want to bet that this was to balance out all of the negative reviews the set was getting.
That irks me. That really, really irks me.....

I remember this thread with affection and the discussion that lead to it.
Other than that (and that you had been living in Japan during the quake, had access to a Nintendo DS, smoke cigars and were making music as Vlantis possibly with a sanshin) your fame has yet to reach the "oh crumbs that's who you are" side of my brain parts.
Not sure what that has to do with the doughnuts? :-D
Ha! Nice memory (I'm not sure how you know about the DS and cigars though. I can't remember).
I've been lurking here for a long time, following ESB:R and promote SW:R when I can around the internet. ESB:R used to be my most anticipated film in the last ten years, but now Prometheus has beaten it. :P
^Nice! (you guys probably don't know me...:P)
TOD rocks! It's got the best opening adventure (granted ROTLA has a good one), the best music, and generally captures the serial style story telling better than the other films. The whole second half of the movie is non-stop adventure.
I used to hate it too, but I watched it again about 6 years ago and thought to myself "What was I thinking?! This is the best of the bunch!"
I'm surprised TLC gets as much love as it does, since it's just a retread of ROTLA without as many exciting scenes (the opening adventure is really weak), plus a lot of BAD comic relief (some of it works, though) and too many winks to the audience. It was a real crowd pleaser at the time (especially for me, since I was only 8 years old or something), but it doesn't hold up, IMO (still not a BAD movie).
Somebody had the idea of naming ALL the Sith apprentices Darth Vader, plus change General Grevious's lightsaber colors to red, and also calling HIM Darth Vader. That way we think the Vader in the OT is just another dark side lacky. Obviously Anakin getting his DV suit would need to be removed, but most of the rest could be kept in (or whatever's left of it after the edit). I personally like this idea, but I think Ady said he had something in mind for this anyway....
