Back in the '60s & '70s, if you wanted a superhero of colour or wanted to give a white superhero a significant other of colour, you’d create new characters to fill those roles.

Now in the 2000s, if you want a superhero of colour or want to give a white superhero a significant other of colour, you take pre-existing characters who were white and race-swap them.

Progress!

+1. This is very frustrating.

I love documentaries. I might have to check that out. I enjoy a nice well-made doc even if it’s about something I’m not normally interested in.

To be clear, it’s not what some would consider a traditional documentary. It’s a bit overproduced with dramatic music, dramatic slow-motion footage of grown men (debatable) catching footballs, and dramatic narration from John Hamm (!) which is kind of eye-roll inducing. But it follows the team in the locker room, in the offices, on the field, and at home from draft day to end of season, and I was never bored.

But then again I like football.

I find it interesting that I know so many people who really like movies and football. And I’d be one of those people. Monday’s, Thursday’s and Sunday’s I watch football and follow my fantasy team. Tuesday’s, wedsdays and Thursday’s I got to focus on school. Then on Fridays and Saturdays I enjoy watching movies or hanging with friends, or better yet, going to the theatre with my friends.

My fantasy team is doing awful. Drafted Todd Gurley in one league and as you might guess, that was a bust. In my other league I took David Johnson instead which has been a bit more rewarding.

“Captain America: Civil War” is barely about the Sokovia Accords, its more “What To Do About Bucky?”. “Marvel Comics Civil War” is definitely about the Registration Act. The only thing that really carries over from the comics is the team ups.

I think it’s funny when people complain about the Bucky plot, because that IS the plot of the movie. The Accords are an inciting incident that are barely mentioned after Act 1.

Very true. I at first didn’t like this but I liked how it played out. From the second tony entered the Russian compound until the end of the fight is some of the best marvel film making has to offer. The script, the music, the action and especially the acting (mainly Downey Jr here). It’s fucking golden. Rips my heart out every time.

So, will people stop kvetching about Kylo Ren’s saber now? 😉

So they made an even more stupid thing in attempt to overshadow the previous stuff thing. That is not how it should be done. The strategy should be to not make any stupid things in the first place.

Except the cross guard saber is badass. A type of regal badass.

Only after you split “badass” into “bad” and “ass”, the separate parts can be used to describe that thing.

That was a surprisingly witty comeback. But it’s still bad ass…subjectively…in my opinion.

I have to make the decision to go on a Mormon mission or not at the end of high school. Not fun

Do it, darth. Is it hard? Of course. Was it worth it? More than you’ll ever know… Unless you go. I’m so grateful I did.

Sorry but I don’t believe in any of it at all. I find many of our beliefs sexist and inherently wrong. I have now become agnostic. The stress of the decision to go on a mission is entirely because of the emotional pain and humiliation I will go through my community and my family. My father has been a bishop and just got called as Stake President. It’s not the inner turmoil of whether it’s true, it’s the inner turmoil of what consequences I want. I’m extremely jealous of those born into good hearted agnostic homes with a supportive family who won’t force you to believe something that they think is crucial to if you can live with them forever again.

I’d urge you not to do it. Don’t sell out your principals.

That’s what keeps me leaning towards that decision. In the end I have to take a stand for what I believe and if that means them hating me and seeing me as a dissapointment then I’ll have to deal with that pain. Thanks for the kind words everyone

It’s been a while since I previewed that reply and I doubt I realized at the time that you were faltering in your faith. I don’t think any member of the Church or your family would encourage you to go on a mission if you don’t have the faith, much less if you identify as agnostic. I of course wish you saw things differently, but I always respect a person who is honest and not judgmental in his/her beliefs.

Thank you ender. I appreciate your respect for my beliefs and for your support.

Just got the civil war steelbook and am very satsitifed. I for one, love the custom art and it’s the first steelbook I have ever owned (normally I just buy regular blu Rays) but it is crafted very nicely. I have watched all the bonus features, deleted scenes, gag reels etc. All that’s left is re watching the film with the commentary track which I am very excited for. Commentaries have always been my favorite form of a bonus feature.

I don’t know about you guys but here are my top five soundtracks of marvel:

1. Captain America: The Winter Solider

Love this soundtrack to death. Marvels biggest weakness is it’s music but I think Jackman outdid himself here. It’s beautiful and inspiring. The Winter Soilder music is eerie, intense and captivating. And Caps new theme is sooooooooo good. The entire scoring of the end fight of Bucky and cap is the best music of the MCU hands down for me.

2. The Avengers
Really only cause of the Avengers theme. Most memorable piece (winter Soilder has the best piece IMO, but slightly less memorable than this theme). It’s just a damn good theme that gets ya pumped.

3. Captain America: Civil War

Well balanced soundtrack. The main civil war theme is fine, zemos theme is pretty awesome and it really plays well when tony sees the tape. Black Panther and Spider-Man have some really fun original music for them.

4. Iron Man

Alright soundtrack. Iron Mans theme is so badass.

5. Guardians of the Galaxy (the score… i know, soundtrack doesn’t count)

I mean…it’s…fine…bland. Sorry, it’s just past the top four spots all you get is traditional marvel bland forgettable music.

The top spot really is a great soundtrack I think. The only marvel musical score that I think is a actual really good score on its own.

But if it was a list of top soundtracks Guardians of the Galaxy would absolutely destroy EVERY single other soundtrack in the MCU. Very excited for Awesome Mix 2.

This was mentioned in the Rogue One thread by Tobar, and it brought to my attention that Giacchino is composing for Doctor Strange.

For Pixar, the maestro created the music for Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up (for which he won an Oscar), Cars 2 and Inside Out. For its live-action film division, he has worked on Sky High, John Carter and Tomorrowland. For Disney Animation this year, Giacchino scored its surprise hit Zootopia. And he’s making his Marvel Studios debut with Doctor Strange, which opens Nov. 4.

I wonder if he might finally give the MCU some strong, memorable music, rather than the standard, bland fare that every other Marvel film has. If he does, then Doctor Strange could end up alleviating my two biggest problems with the MCU: the bland scores and visual style.

Same two biggest gripes I have with the MCU also. Though I find “The Avengers” theme and “The Winter Soilder” score pretty decent. Besides that I can’t hum literally anything.

EDIT:
Though I did think Iron Man 2’s use of AC/DC was fun. Obviously doesn’t have to do anything with it’s bland score but hey, something it’s got going for it.

I tried at 2x with both plugs connected for max power but it still freezes a ton in the middle. I really do think I’m gonna buy verbatim off Amazon. In the IMGBurn forums a trusted mod responded to a mans post who is having the same issue as I am and the mod linked him a post that he did all about the issue. He basically listed a couple brands that he considered “cheap” media and that you would have issues with. Ridata was one of them. Iv tried all options and I think the discs are the true issue.
