Star Wars Custom Blu Ray Saga Set (a WIP)
Time

Darth Lucas said:

Wow it has been some time since an update, hasn’t it?

Well my schedule is still pretty busy out in the real world (schooling and work and bills and yadeeyada), but I have had a little time to work on this in the middle of all that craziness, and my schedule is starting to clear up just a tad. Hopefully that translates to me being more active on the forums than I’ve been as of late.

On to the status of the project. Basically, in the time since my last updates, the entire project has been pretty drastically overhauled. This is due to some things that have changed since I started this project.
One big thing that has changed is that njvc has released his phenomenal blu-ray set for Despecialized. This has affected my project in one major way: a bluray set now exists with extremely comprehensive bonus feature discs, making the bonus discs I was planning to produce somewhat superfluous.

What I plan to do instead is create bonus discs based on those that exist in the Lord of the Rings Extended Editions. That is, edit a lot of the bonus material that currently exists into essentially one long documentary, broken up into different sections that focus on various aspects of the filmmaking process (i.e. Writing, Production, Special Effects/ILM, Music & Sound, Critical Reception, etc.) Obviously Empire of Dreams has proven a great jumping off point for that.

I have also completely redesigned the menus. They’re not 100% complete, but they now match more closely in line with the TFA bluray menus and feature movie clips, unlike the previous menus I designed.

Despecialized is still the basis for the bluray, but may be swapped out in the future, as it was before.

The other details of the project are more or less untouched. It will still feature two separate discs for the movie itself, one for the Theatrical (1977 and 1981) versions, and one for the Special Edition (1997 and 2004) versions. The “workprint extended edition” is still to be created and featured on the bonus disc(s).

Your new idea for the bonus features sounds incredible! Like, I’m talking really INCREDIBLE! I never thought of the bonus features being assembled that way.

A place for self reflection.

I’ll start.

I just want to say, I hate some of you, with every breath I take. Now, I don’t actually hate you, but that is how I end up feeling about some of you. This has to be the worst section of any forum I’ve ever belonged to. Not because it’s off topic but because of how it’s been allowed to disintegrate in to such a shit hole of double standards based on the presence of only a handful of members that seem to have been allowed to run it.

I am a good person. I know most of the rest of you are too. I know I am very vocal, it is part of who I am, but it does not make me deserving of all the bullshit I do take from some. I have a daughter I love very much, one that respects and loves me in return. I don’t have much but what I do have is mine, I own it. It’s not rented or borrowed or donated to me. I also happily share what I own if and when it is needed. It’s the right thing to do. I have no reason to change this belief either. It’s an honorable way to be and nothing to be ashamed of.

My sensitivities are always in full view, it’s just how I am, and I have no problem defending them when I feel (because I have nothing else to go on) they’ve been vigorously disrespected. It does not make me friends all the time and I do not expect it to. I realize that not all of my fellow members are use to it or like it but it shouldn’t encourage them to treat me differently. I also fuck up. I make mistakes and sometimes they are huge. I welcome the opportunity to fix such issues when they come up. We all should have that opportunity. We all have problems but those problems don’t make us problems if we are openly seeking to fix them and help others do the same.

I am friends outside of here with some of our members. Some of them feel as I do about things here but they are not as vocal as I am. Others are happier not getting involved and that is okay. I also don’t always “get” internet-ese when it comes to someone being funny, sarcastic, nice, and what not. I am partly to blame due to never belonging to someplace like this until I came here. I am glad there are new rules for off topic but I do see some loophole spots that were probably purposeful based on how some like this section run and seen as compared to others that participate here.

In the end, I have become somewhat tainted by the way things work in off topic, and I do hate that part immensely. I am partly to blame for letting it get to me because my particular sensitivities can be a challenge. My life outside here has seen a lot of challenges, as most, as well. Being a veteran needing to make use of benefits I’ve been denied for years makes life a challenge as well. I really want to be happy inside and out. I know we can’t have it all. Please, try to understand me before you jump on a bandwagon just because it’s fun. It is not fun for me. Respect and understanding go both ways and we all should be willing to give that to each other because we all deserve it, not because we are entitled to it based solely on who we are here. I am human. I am a real person behind this nickname. We ALL are.

Thanks for listening.

If it means anything to you, I personally don’t understand why you get so much hate. Your a kind and respectful member who vocalizes his issues with the current state of the forum.

Are The Prequels That Bad?

They are bad, but not that bad. Episode 3 is quite good outside of lame key scenes (which means that most of the movie actually works fine),

Which scenes aren’t lame and work fine?

Most of the opening, from the crawl to the “happy landing”. Most of Palpatine scenes before he reveals himself as Sidious (Opera scene is very good). Most of the Kashyyyk scenes (all except the Yoda leaving in a tiny spaceship thing). Obviously all of “order 66” (except Anakin killing kids). All of Mustafar duel except a few dialogues. Obi-Wan at Utapau going rogue against Grievous (except Grievous death). Etc. Great stuff, great music, beautiful aesthetics, still strong cgi (except a few shots and elements that didn’t age very well). No wonder fanedited versions of Episode 3 are very good movies. But Lucas fails with the turning to the dark side scene. He should have kept it off screen, with this wonderful sequence as the real turning point (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hoXNXSpmng), not the later bullshit in Palpi’s office.

I agree. I think that Revenge of the Sith is a flawed yet still good movie. I consider Hal9000’s Labyrinth of Evil fanedit to be a REALLY good movie. Unpopular opinion on a site named originaltrilogy.com haha. But yes, I do consider episodes 1 and 2 to be bad movies. They are made into enjoyable movies with fanediting.

The new Star Wars comics - a general discussion thread
Time

DominicCobb said:

So I finished reading the whole Vader line (including Vader Down). All in all I really enjoyed it. A enjoyable set of books that doesn’t take itself to seriously, with some legitimately awesome moments (and a fair number of silly ones). Vader’s a total bad ass and most of the new characters are pretty fun. The final storyline is a real treat, and the whole thing transitions the Vader in ANH to the Vader in ESB quite well. Not for the faint of heart when it comes to PT references, but, if you don’t mind those, I think you should check it out.

These were the first comics from the new canon that I’ve read, and I must say it makes me hungry for more. I can’t imagine reading these issue by issue, though - I was lucky enough to borrow all the trade paperbacks from my brother and just read at my own pace. I did get Shattered Empire and Poe Dameron Vol. 1 for Christmas, though, and I’m really excited to get into those, especially the latter.

From what I’ve heard, the Han Solo line has been incredible. I’m pretty sure that George Lucas personally emailed the author to tell him how much he loved it. And the Collider crew, who I listen to a lot, seem to absolutely love it also.

Looks good, maybe try a longer audio crossfade?

If I do the crossfade any longer then it becomes even worse because it mashes up the two beats even more for a longer period of time so it becomes more noticeable.

But all in all, I think it’s fine. Since the music is percussion and we’re changing cities, it feels natural for the beat to slightly change. I also showed it to my brother and he said he thought it sounded like it hadn’t even been edited.

-New city celebrations/new song (SE)

Add the new song, but please don’t add the cities. It’s so out of place and makes no sense.

I like the cities cause it gives the victory more scope and it can explained by means of the holonet. I will keep this in mind, in case I get more complaints. Then I will reconsider it. Thanks for the suggestion 😃

I think (as long as Naboo is not in there, I hate that prequel planet), the cities are fine. George originally envisioned Coruscant celebration for the ending, but cut it for budget reasons.

I tried this out (cutting Naboo), and it seems pretty nice. I feel the edit is a little bit too noticable but I might be a bit too picky 😉 Below is a preview of the city celebrations without Naboo. Thoughts on how well the edit is executed would be much appreciated.

It looks good to me.

Awesome, it now will be apart of the edit.

If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place

Lol there’s a guy at my school trying to be a rapper. He’s got a YouTube channel with his awful music videos. His “songs” feature such poetic lyrics like:

“Workin’ hard like a hard worker. Green on green like a farm worker.”

and my personal favorite
"Pb&J, can’t resist me like a plain bag of Lay’s."

It’s ridiculous how many high schoolers think they can just drop out and become rappers.

A couple “friends” of mine asked if they could come over just for a little bit to record their rap album. It’s super dumb. They’re posting it on SoundCloud and shit. I was nice about it still and said they could come over. Turns out they have been here for nearly 8 hours. They’re finally leaving soon but they were acting entitled to my own god damn room, as if they had every right to stay here all day as I sit there and listen to them record them dumbass rap. They got all pissed at me whenever I told them to leave cause I wanted to hang with people who were actually respectful, fun people.

Ugh, an annoying day to say the least.

*And they used my computer the entire time so I couldnt get that much editing done for my Return of the Jedi fanedit

Rogue Zero - What was changed, reshot, etc in Rogue One?
Time

Ronster said:

No it’s not Hyperbole. The remnants of the other cut are in the books and games and trailers which have been released or referencing extensive work that was created for this other cut.

Even if Lucusfilm wanted to sweep it under the rug there really is not much point now as there is so many things people can see that did not end up in the film it would be more ludicrous to deny that it ever existed as it’s in print, video footage and Games.

I don’t think Lucusfilm are really being tight lipped about any of it. They are not releasing any real solid details of it exactly apart from a few bit’s here and there.

I think it is very interesting and fun to find things. And really I don’t think we can go much further until we get some solid facts.

Bringing all the information together is fun and having a guess at the re-shoots is more fun 😃

I should add I like the film a lot but I also can’t help wondering if I would like the other cut more or less than the version we saw in the cinema.

It’s different and that is what makes it so compelling.

This is exactly why I follow this thread. It’s enjoyable and very interesting.

Ranking the Star Wars Soundtracks

NeverarGreat said:

There is a reconstructed AOTC soundtrack floating around out there that I occasionally use as background music. I don’t do that with any of the other prequels, so I guess that means that AOTC is my favorite of the prequel soundtracks. It also has perhaps my favorite end credits music (ANH might edge it out though).

A New Hope EASILY has my favorite end credits music. I attended a local symphony recently and they did the throne room till the end credits. It was truly incredible 😃

Ranking the Star Wars Soundtracks

  1. ESB
  2. ROTS
  3. ANH
  4. TPM
  5. TFA
  6. ROTJ
  7. RO (Rogue One)
  8. AOTC

AOTC is just such a copy and paste from TPM, that it’s hard to put above Rogue One’s soundtrack, which I have really come to appreciate. “Across the Stars” is beatiful but it cannot carry an entire movie. I was also tempted to put ROTS first, it’s just so tragic and emotional, but ESB is too good haha.

Ranking the Star Wars films

After seeing Rogue One again, it’s issues became less apparent, and it’s strengths were even more enjoyable. I love Force Awakens but here are my updated rankings for the THEATRICAL versions of the movies. If I were to include my preferred fan-edits then this list would be much different.

  1. The Empire Strikes Back
  2. Star Wars
  3. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
  4. The Force Awakens
  5. Return of the Jedi
  6. Revenge of the Sith
  7. The Phantom Menace
  8. Attack of the Clones
