They have such different visual aesthetics, and I don’t know if that would take me out of the whole experience.

Maybe after changing the colour palette of the movie slighty to be a bit more similar to each other, it might make it seem more natural but being an edit of 2 different films (3 depending on how ep9 is) it will always seem a bit out of place but not drastically.

To each his own but maybe pointless was the wrong word but subplots like the phasma/finn story, finn/rose story including canto bight, crait, love triangle stuff, tension/story between holdo/poe, hux sucking up to snoke/trying to one up kylo all the time would be minimised etc to keep the dark/suspenseful tone im hoping for. Things like that, that don’t really add to the story of this edit but might have in the individual films for some people but regardless, some of these points for me atleast seemed a waste of time that could’ve been used in different/new scenes to add more depth to the last jedi. For me the last jedi last a good opportunity to really explore jedi lore/luke’s time on ahch-to with the jedi school, kylo turning etc. They had the flashbacks with luke and kylo but they were minimal. A longer look at luke training to about to kill kylo to knights of ren destroying the place wouldve been amazing but JJ might include those in ep9 but for the next 2 years this edit could be good for the time being and once ep9 drops and how that story is, i might add on ep9 in a super cut of this edit.

New to the forum so hello to all.

Had some thoughts on mixing together the force awakens and the last jedi into one film.

Remove some of the clutter (scenes that have cheesy jokes, filler scenes, pointless sub plots etc) from both and try and change the tone of it too with the editing to make it a bit more darker and emotional. I was thinking to centre it around luke since he of course dies but also have rey and kylo’s relationship play a big part of the movie too. Probably remove most of the phasma, finn, rose, hux stuff.

Rough layout of the idea would probably be cutting out the clutter of force awakens so the first rey and kylo forest fight/han’s death would be in the middle of the edit with the luke cliffhanger doing straight into the last jedi half of the edit, remove the clutter from that, and depending on what deleted scenes we get add those in too if it fits with this idea. This all would make it into probably a 2.5/3hr cut, kind of like batman vs superman ulitmate edition (which i was a huge fan of). Some other ideas I have for restructuring this, it would be cool to try and mix together all the luke jedi school flashbacks with the knights of ren flashbacks to create a dramatic opening for the beginning of this edit which would then lead into kylo finding lor san tekka and carry on with the force awakens half of the edit. Would probably try and cut down the resistance/first order story down a bit too since that would drag out this edit idea of being more jedi based than resistance/first order based like the actual films are.

If you guys have any suggestions on this idea I would love to hear them. I think this could be a awesome idea if I or anyone else can do it correctly and hopefully make up the new trilogy (so far) for not being that great (imo).
