Oh, undoubtably. Not only is that kinda stuff interesting from a DAWN enthusiast's view, but from a purely technical one, too. I think it would be a great way to explain what sort of hurdles were encountered in making the cut and the innovative solutions taken to solve them. A nice way of promoting an appreciation of the project (not to mention CW's skills), also. I like the idea of someone from, say, Anchor Bay or a close associate of Romero getting ahold of this thing when its done and, instead of dismissing it as a curiosity, being confronted with the evidence, then actually going 'Wow' and recognizing its value.

And I'm still very much looking forward to See No Evil's interpretation, especially if his is to be more Romero-centric than CW's more Euro-centric version.

Great to hear about the progress on your composite cut, See No Evil. Can't wait for the day when I slip it into my DVD player...

As for you Perfectfuture, tis indeed a shame you weren't consulted on the use of your footage but perhaps you should have learnt from Image Ten's mistake back in 1968 ...and put a copyright notice on your property! Welcome to the forums and, indeed, this thread. I hope you choose to stick around and contribute. It sounds like we could use you!

I think there's definitely room for two 'Ultimate Dawn Versions'. God knows others have tried and failed in the past...

If CW is using the Euro version as the backbone for the cut, maybe See No Evil is employing the theatrical or extended version (and giving preference to the relevant soundtrack).

Either way, it seems compromises will have to be made in the process and it'll be interesting to see how each one is tackled. I get a feeling that, at the end of the day, the preferred version will differ on a fan-by-fan basis - as they already do with the theatrical, extended and European cuts.

Those commercials have only ever emerged online in very low quality versions. I doubt you'd find better than what's on Youtube.

Yeah, PHANTOM MENACE should definitely get a mention. It broke alot of new ground.

Not sure what THE TERMINATOR brought to the table that wasn't already there.

Can't think of any really interesting visual effects in AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON - unless, of course, they're talking about the make-up. But then if effects make-up is included, they're making alot of ommissions - notably THE THING (1982).

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

A small suggestion: Have you considered dropping the boarding sound effects just momentarily before the door erupts into a shower of sparks? I think a single beat of silence after the final rumble of bass disipates would add greatly to the tension and also to the sudden shock that follows. Rather than eliminating anything, you could easily extend the static shot of the door to draw out the anticipation somewhat.

And another thing: I've never really noticed any of the continuity blunders that seem to be common knowledge around here and was wondering about 3PO's lower right leg. Has it always been paler than the rest of him or just during the Tantive scenes?

Carry on!

I have an unopened copy of this tape, if anyone thinks it will help i will contribute it.

I totally forgot about this video. Then again, its not really DAWN related, which is my excuse why.

It would be interesting to see what version you have since there is an alternate video that's in full colour, slightly extended and features no band performance footage.

I have a perfect digital capture of the standard version from digital television broadcast in PAL standard definition 16:9 mpeg2, with mpeg audio and minimal intrusive onscreen logos/titles. I could probably just upload it somewhere either for any project or just for anyone that may be interested. If you're curious, it can be seen here.

That'd be part of his 'Winners' series from the 70's, a venture by Romero and Richard Rubenstein designed to get George back on track after a few commercial failures. I'd be interested in checking it out, for sure, though I can't vouch for its appeal to the casual fan.

Okay, from what I saw on IMDB, that cut is significantly longer (what the hell is the extra material about?), but from what I've read, it's disliked because the audio mix is crappy.

The extra material consists of everything that is visually unique to the European version, incorporated into the extended cut.

I have no doubt that the audio mix is crappy, its dubbed in German afterall, but I imagine quite a bit of soundtrack tweaking would be necessary to accommodate all the various insertions and extentions. And while Anchor Bay have given us the greatest sources available yet, it'd still require some colour correction to effectively integrate the two prints together as their appearances do vary slightly. But, oh man, would it ever be worth it...

Anyway, I've been enjoying the contents of disc 2 and its a definite winner. I'd like to thank all the contributors as well as meedermow for making it happen.

Book Of The Dead Preservation (* unfinished project *)

I'm surprised that Anchor Bay have been so successful in keeping the version of WOODS they prepped out of unwelcome hands. I've heard a few people say they saw the amazing job they did yet it has seemingly never left AB HQ. When it was withdrawn from the DVD, I thought for sure it would eventually leak - first among the big shots in the scene and then trickle down to the online community.

Oh, and for the record, apparently it was Raimi himself who put for kibosh on WITHIN THE WOODS. Not due to music rights, not because it starred an embarassed governor's daughter (or some such nonsense) but simply, it would seem, due to Raimi's own insecurities as a perfectionist filmmaker. Sounds strange but then this is the guy that has done his own fair share of Lucas-esque tinkering with THE EVIL DEAD in recent years (e.g. re-framed shots, ropey effects excised etc.).

Has anyone put out the full ~30 minute 'Behind-the-Screams' home video compilation from the 1998 EVIL DEAD 2 laserdisc? Some of it made it to the Anchor Bay DVD(s) but there's also some cool shit that didn't survive the format change. I've done my own basic laserdisc->dvd conversion but don't really have the facilities to put it out there...

Another relatively simple one.

I wish someone would take the French (and only) DVD of KILLING ZOE Director's Cut and add English subtitles for the French-language sequences. Of course, the theatrical version could be utilized for the correct subtitles.

That is all.

definitely. I didn't know there was a director's cut of KZ

Wowsers!

Yeah, apparently it violated forum rules or some such nonsense. Anyway, the thread got deleted and I got a warning. Suffice to say I won't be bringing it up over there again. Besides, we didn't exactly get the reponse we had hoped for from those folk.

I'll send you a copy of the DVD version if you like. It is definitely part of The Burning release - as the menu is seen at one point. The person who made the original conversion didn't start a new chapter - he just started the Scream Greats segment playing when the movie finished. I picked it up from a trader on-line last year so I don't know the exact source.

That's cool, Streebo. Thanks for the offer but I'm happy with my own Laserdisc rip. Just wanted to make sure that if someone were to put this out, there wouldn't be any unnecessary compromises on quality.

Meedermow (or anyone else for that matter), should you show some interest in a SCREAM GREATS project down the line, I'd be happy to make a sample clip available for comparitive purposes.
