TFA: A Gentle Restructure (Released)

Oh boy… a new version in the works? I must vote for the DigMod rathtar scene once again. “It just works!” (Todd Howard) and doesn’t affect the overall structure of the movie, it just makes the scene flow more smoothly without the unnecessary “Finn’s Damsel in Distress” roleplay.

I would edit the scene into Restructured as a personal edit if I only had the patience and know-how.

I think you only need to unzip the iso version with an “unzip” soft (try the free version of WinZip). You’ll then retrieve the m2ts file (there are several, just open the biggest one and check if if contains as it should the movie file) that you can mux as mkv with mkvtoolnix (the size will decrease, which is normal since m2ts use redundancy space, which is needed when you read the file burnt on a disc but which gets removed - because useless - when contained into mkv files).

This is not that hard, it might be the very first thing I’ve learnt when I joined this forum 😉

Let us know if you need more help.

Cheers once again, Malá! 😃

Could someone pass me the DTS track by any chance? I could try one more time, haha.

JEDIT: Oopsies… nevermind! Found the Reddit thread.

JEDIT 2: DTS now successfully muxed in but still mkvtoolnix complained something about the lossless .wav file… something about JSON and mkvmerge. I was just left wondering what are the differences between DTS and .wav since the latter is over 4 gigs?

Muxing wav (which stands as PCM format) does work but if your audio system doesn’t support it there is no real point. I’ve muxed the new DTS file yesterday and it works perfectly. Use mkvtoolnix, it should work.

The audio system in my living room actually does support DTS because it always says “Dolby detected” or something like that when I play movies through Plex. I don’t know about my PC audio though. But yeah, I meant that I already tried working with mkvtoolnix earlier and I just got errors while trying to apply the audio file. That’s why I wanted to ask for help with it because I feel like all the errors are caused by my fingers + brain. 😄

Will there possibly be versions of the files with the DTS audio already muxed in? I tried to mux 5.1 .wav audio (prequel edits?) once before and kept only getting errors. I would really appreciate it if someone more tech-savvy could help out with these.

(Personally I wouldn’t mind if the file size blows through the roof…)

Ivan, I think you must know my name by now, from all of my positive YouTube comments regarding your The Last Jedi efforts. I am excited that you are now over here too.

Ivan is not here anymore. He posted this thread and that’s about it. You better continue commenting on his YouTube if you want your feedback heard (or read). But yeah… I’m excited as well about some of the changes he is working on.

This thread seems to get bumped all the time… so again as a sidebump, I might as well link the newest update on the “Luke throwing the lightsaber” scene with new music:

To be honest… if the voiceover idea works, this is something I’d like to mix into Hal’s Legendary (or any other glorious edits we’ll see).

I saw Hal’s edits only after the Force Awakens came out but during The Last Jedi, I as well did some editing during the cringiest parts. For example, after the opening scene I found myself already thinking “Yeah sorry… that has to go. Hal has some long nights ahead of him.” Haha! But not to the point that it ruined the first time viewing.

Maybe it’s also a little testament to what we think of your skills, Hal. 😉

I just checked out his Patreon and it is quite baffling. You get access to to the Patreon feed (most recent progress updates), rough cuts, 30min Skype call, give input on what to edit… for $100 (per month?!).

…and I’m getting all these features for free on this forum with more “professional editor” people. Well, I haven’t Skype’d with Harmy, Ady or HAL yet but… I really feel bad for Ortega’s supporters who are expecting some “official fan edit”.

He has a YouTube live stream going on right now and I asked him when he’s planning to drop by, talk about his progress and read some (good) ideas + opinions in this thread. I also asked about if he is really planning to go with the 2.0 stereo audio.

His response: “I don’t know. I really don’t have the time, you know? I am just one person.”

…and with that, I think I’ll pass on this one. It’s pretty clear now that he is more interested in getting loads of subscribers on his channel (while the iron is still hot). At the moment his stream chat is just full of people asking him to edit every single movie from Alien 3 to Indiana Jones because “those really need his touch”.
