If Boba was still in business, and somebody needed someone found, he's probably the one you call first. And bounty hunters work for anyone who's paying, not just the bad guys.

Are you basing that on something written about him being the best in the galaxy? Because IMO the only thing that should be relied upon is what we SEE in a movie. And what we see is him hired alongside other bounty hunters with no preferential treatment, happening to be the one who gets lucky, and then going out like a bitch in the next movie. Doesn't immediately scream "the one you call first" IMO.

Universe shrinkage is when characters keep running into each other without an in-universe explanation, not when characters are continually focused on.

When a minor character just HAPPENS to run into our primary characters again, or is somehow involved in major events concerning them, a full 30 YEARS LATER no less, that IS universe shrinkage.

Bear in mind, this wasn't a main antagonist integral to the plot. This was a mercenary who until the Prequels was only significant in the one movie.

I was responding to Bingowings.

Guess we're in agreement then. Move along.

I really, really hope Boba Fett doesn't show up again. Frankly, I'm sick of that character. All his coolness has been squeezed out of him by the PT and the EU. Not to mention that it would be more pointless universe shrinkage. We shouldn't see the same set of characters every single movie, beyond the main characters, of course...of which Boba Fett was not one.

Exactly. The problem I have with it isn't the fact that it's implausible he survived, but that it's implausible he'd happen to have a role in the stories involving our principal characters again. It would be universe shrinkage for the sake of fan service IMO.

There are real world instances where 'species' have arisen that reproduce parthenogenetically - meaning there are no males and the offspring is essentially a clone of the mother. One weird example is the lizard Cnemidophorus neomexicanus, which is a hybrid of two other lizard species which spontaneously decided it wasn't going to do that whole sex thing either of its parent species did, and instead exclusively produces female clones of itself.

So your ideas aren't all that farfetched and could potentially work well with the Gungans' unique genetics being the key to unlocking the secrets of cloning rather than them actually practicing artificial cloning themselves.

Why is Kylo Ren dressed like Darth Maul? Did Ren meet Maul? Is Ren a Maul groupie?

Maybe that's Abrams way of pleasing the PT fans?  He did say he was  trying to please everyone.

 When/where did this happen?

In the opening panel of celebration, someone asked the question "how do you ensure that you please everyone?" or something along those lines, and JJ joked "well we just will".

There was nothing specifically related to pleasing the PT or OT crowds.

I recall him going out of his way not to refer to the PT at all, even when questioned directly about it. That, plus his recent reference to the bones of Jar Jar, gives me hope that he has little to no interest in pleasing the PT fanboys (who, for the most part, seem to have rejected this Trilogy out of hand, anyway).

Yup, I loved that. They've made it abundantly clear that the PT doesn't align with their idea of what Star Wars should be. JJ seemed to steer any question that brought up the Prequels back to the practical effects of the OT, and how they were trying to replicate that. It's great they're not walking on eggshells for fear of upsetting the Prequel fans.

Here's the link to the bit darklordoftech is referring to. Bizarrely I had to upload the whole opening panel myself because Star Wars's youtube page left it unlisted, and then made it private so no-one can view it.

According to the Meet Captain Phasma article by Vanity Fair yesterday it was Phasma chasing the Millenium Falcon in the trailer. So does that mean that this guy is actually Captain Phasma in a Tie pilot uniform?

http://www.vanityfair.com/magazine/2015/05/gwendoline-christie-star-wars

My guess is they've got that part wrong. Just because it's chrome doesn't mean it's the same guy. For all we know, all the Tie Pilots are chrome, just as they were all black in the OT.

More likely than not, Phasma would have a fancy tie too if she has one at all, like the one that kills all those troopers (it has a different rectangular window to the rest).

I just think it would be kind of silly for the already armoured character to go through a costume change just to get in a Tie.

For ice-cream than never runs out and I can enjoy for the rest of my life?

Yes.

Especially in this scenario, where I can live a normal life and do whatever I want on my way to the ice-cream truck, as opposed to being stuck in a car.

Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

It's still ice cream that is at this point beyond our grasp. It's not like you're ever going to forget about it completely.

Maybe you'd prefer a dog turd slapped on a cone instead. I mean, if you can't stand the waiting, it's right there at the roadside. Dig in.

I'd very much like to see this, these cuts look very reasonable. I wonder though if there's a 2 or 2.5 hour movie in here somewhere. If someone did that without it feeling rushed, it would probably be my go-to version. Severe cuts to most movies would be required, but someone's gotta respect the bladders of the audience!

brash_stryker said:

I'm aiming to cut them all down to between 3 & 3.5 hours in length. One release will be a 1080p mkv, another of 2 separate Blu Ray disc images. The split will exist to keep the bitrate high, as well as serving as a sort of homage to the LOTR releases.

This sounds like an amazing project!

I'm a little confused by the two versions.  Will there be a dedicated transition point for the two disc version?  In other words are the three films becoming two, or are they becoming one (with the two disc version purely for quality)?

I've yet to work out where the split will occur as I don't have a concrete halfway point yet. The BluRay version will still be the same single movie. The split will exist partially for quality, and partially as fanservice to the Lord of the Rings releases (where a title came up saying 'The journey continues on disc 2')

The movie's already there...He has no reason to redo every single frame, make Dagobah miniatures, and such.

Every time I read comments like this, I keep picturing myself in the van on the way to get ice cream...

You see, we're poor and live far outside the city, so we never get to have ice cream in town - but when we do, it's a real treat!  I look forward to it every time, no matter how long it takes to get there.  I'm so excited!

We're in the car for a while, the beautiful scenery is passing by outside the window, and all I can think about is how great this ice cream is gonna be!  I know it's taking a while, but man, it's gonna be so good!

However, I have a little brother sitting next to me... He is a little bit more selfish than I remember myself being at that age...  Always wants everything handed to him on a silver platter right when he asks for it.  It's quite a pain, really... (you know how it is, I'm sure...)

Then he starts...

"Are we there yet?"

'Oh no' I think... not this... not now...

"Not yet, honey, it's still a while - just sit back and enjoy the view.  Think about what flavor you're going to get while you wait!"

A few minutes goes by in silence...

"Are we there yet?" he asks again.

"Not yet..."

A few minutes later...

"Are we there yet?"

I can see the frustration in my parents - through the backs of their heads.

"Not yet, sweetheart, just stop asking - we'll get there when we get there."

The tension is palpable...

Please God... don't let him ask again...

"Are we ther..."  My brother starts to ask but my father interrupt him.

"That's it!  I'm turning around, no one's getting ice cream!"

...

So everyone in the future please... Don't make Adywan turn the car around...  The ice cream is totally worth the long drive: just sit back, enjoy the ride, and shut up.

Would you go on a 7 year car ride for some ice-cream?

 Quit trolling.

I think we're arguing slightly different points here. Where as you're arguing IN-world, I'm coming from a basic film mechanics OUT-of-world standpoint.

I've been trying to articulate why I thought everyone was missing the point earlier, but you've saved me the trouble as this sums it up perfectly.

Regardless of internal reasons, he is in the role of a bad guy/betrayer from a pure story perspective and with regard to our protagonists (the only characters that are relevant to a viewer). Doesn't matter if he had a choice in the matter. He still flipflops between roles, which is precisely the point muddyknees has been making. An overarching theme of the movies is transformation, for good or ill.

To have one character in the Prequels who could possibly demonstrate this compellingly, with the gravitas that only Christopher Lee could command, and then to squander it by making him a regular bad guy? Ludicrous.

I think you are over-exaggerating a tad.

It's a Star Wars film so a baton passing motif isn't universe shrinkage it's an object in the fictional universe occupying more than one position in time.

This happens in the real universe.

People buy or come to own objects owned by famous people only for the new owner to also be famous.

As it stands the ship is in the PT only with blue paint scheme and in the background serving no other service than fan service to Easter egg hunters.

But we already have the 'baton passing motif' in the form of the Skywalker saber. The Falcon is undeniably cool, but it wouldn't be symbolic of a greater legacy being passed down. It's just superficial and fanservicey and I agree with everything DominicCobb said.

From what his Facebook page says, there is not much left to do. So I'd say late summer or sometime this fall. I also suspect that work has already began on ROTJ:R. Maybe we will see a teaser for ROTJ:R on the ESB:R dvd. He had a Teaser for ESB:R on the ANH:R dvd.

However, I'm pretty sure we've been hearing that since late 2012. Not to critique anyone, but don't act shocked if this once again gets pushed to 2016 or a year later. It's almost routine at this point.

Not to critique either, but it hasn't needed to take this long either.

Oh, yeah? Please explain.

The movie's already there...He has no reason to redo every single frame, make Dagobah miniatures, and such.

The movie was already there before he did anything to it. He didn't "need" to do anything. Fixing this stuff is the entire aim of his project!
