Can’t speak for the reframing, but can’t compression cause changes in brightness? That doesn’t look like the sharpest stream and I’m guessing that’s an issue with the connection rather than the source file.

Robert Harris has gone on record as having said that Disney definitely knows what they’re doing with every single one of their products. For every home release that purists decry as inaccurate, there’s at least one archived print or scan far less fuddled with sitting in their vault for preservation reasons. So, yes, they do have versions of their animated closely that match the original releases more closely than what’s available to us.
Applying that logic, I fully expect them to restore the OT at some point. What I don’t expect is us to see that until they feel the time is right - if ever.

I know it sounds like bullshit, but if you call them and complain, maybe they can do something about it? My friend had horrible DSL from Verizon for years and the only way his family could get it to improve was to call them - the improvements were always short-lived, but they did something every time. Worth a shot if you can stand being on the phone and giving someone a polite but concerned riot act. Threatening to switch/mentioning competitors’ upcoming deals always helps.

While I think lots of the criticism directed towards Jesta’ isn’t unfounded, I like the idea of this thread a lot. Gives us a chance to talk about what Star Wars means to the individual.
For me, Star Wars is:
-The story of a boy, a girl, and a universe. I can’t get enough of this original trailer line! Says so much about the original fantasy, Flash Gordon-y element present in the first film.
-The Original Trilogy. I actually wore out my SE VHS back in the day to the point where I had to turn off the hi-fi audio or deal with a serious hissing problem.
-The Heir to the Empire trilogy. I really enjoyed seeing Luke struggle with the Force even as an adult, let alone the entire New Republic having trouble with just one branch of the Remnant. The Xanatos Gambit (TVTropes it) really ought be named for Thrawn instead.
-Episode VII. For all the rehash involved, still love it and it left me wanting more
-Any story involving Kyle Katarn. I have a large soft spot for the Dark Forces series and its subsequent spin-offs. Plus, it’s a real treat seeing a member of the New Jedi Order that’s NOT Luke be the focus of more than just one story. These games were my first dip into the EU as a kid – but I’d argue it’s more than nostalgia that leaves me with strong feelings towards them.
My Star Wars doesn’t necessarily need to match up canon wise. My Star Wars is a fantasy universe that I enjoy any story involved in it that grabs my attention. I don’t know how unique I am in that (or not) but I feel that’s worth sharing.
I’ve watched this movie twice in theaters (once in December, once last week in a 2nd run theater). While there was a lot to like - the more down-to-earth and realistic ground combat, the chemistry between the leads, etc. - I didn’t care for it too much. In fact, I fell asleep both times at different points. That might be down to the premise, though; I’m not sure this is a story that I felt needed telling.
Highlights:
-The CGI people look pretty good. We’re not 100% there yet, but the mocap is pretty convincing (or as realistic as, say, modern animatronics).
-K2SO was a more fun HK-47
-Again, I have to commend the main cast’s chemistry. Felicity Jones and Diego Luna had great rapport.
-I felt like a little kid watching Vader kick ass at the end. What I was most apprehensive about ended up being what I enjoyed the most. Whoever was in the suit did his homework, that felt like Prowse lugging about like in ESB! And it got me both times, not just the first.
Bothersome points:
-I didn’t really care for most of the scenes on Yavin IV. Something didn’t feel right to me seeing there again in this context. And I’m not a continuity nut, so it wasn’t just that I was expecting Dantooine instead.
-Saw Gerrera felt forced. Everything to do with him lacked urgency and felt like a subplot, even though Jyn needed to find him to hear about the design flaw in the Death Star. I almost wonder if you could do the plot without him.
I didn’t actively dislike R1, but I don’t know if I’m going to bother watching it again. I’d probably give it a 6/10 if I had to score it.
I don’t get all this love for Terms of Service.

Though it’s a shame to see the death of an American icon, I hope this leaves more room for smaller circus acts to pop up. It is my understanding that circus culture - carneys, families traveling together, etc. - is still at least partially alive.

This place is such a fucking shitshow. I don’t even know why I come back time after time (and I do). I am only logging in to let it be known that this is, like, my opinion man.
I’ll give Fo credit for one thing: this is 100% Frink’s Off-Topic, and he’s gotten away with so much backseat modding it’s hilarious. He’s like the roaches at a roach motel–benign and ultimately to be expected, but occasionally (more and more so recently) annoying.
People need to get over themselves. Christ. This is just the interwebs.
I know the most about Star Wars. Which is to say, I know more about it (and to a lesser extent ESB and ROTJ) than I do about any other film. It’s the reason I have an eye for filmmaking tricks in film, special effects involved or not, at all.
Favorite =/= best. Star Wars might be my favorite film, but it isn’t the best one I’ve ever seen.
I fail to understand why this is still a discussion. This is actually a fairly common practice–it’s akin to an animation studio using a cel frame instead of a still from the finished movie in advertising.
Never have I met a fandom so desperate to grasp for straws as this one. It’s brought us great things, but oh boy do people get excited over nothing 'round these parts.
^Yeah, it’s pretty fun. Definitely nails the mood of an 80s DTV movie better than I expected.
The Sting
I enjoyed this movie quite a bit, though I found it hard to follow at time (I was rather tired when I threw it on.) The cast is a more-than-fun ensemble and for that reason, even if I couldn’t remember the characters’ names, it didn’t matter as long as I kept track of what their role was. I think this is the first Paul Newman film I’ve seen (outside of a filmed version of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, in which, he’s a fantastic narrator.) Always fun to see Robert Redford during his heyday as well. And I certainly got a chuckle out of the various mattes they used to hide the fact that they filmed in and around the Hippodrome at the Santa Monica Pier – big part of my early childhood was spent down there.
I don’t know if I could recommend it but I certainly did like it. 7/10 on my scale, would watch again with the right company.

How many seedy/creepy wax museums are left these days? Madame Tussauds seems to have a worldwide franchise thing going. I wish I had visited Movieland Wax Museum before it closed. It had elaborate set pieces it placed it’s figures in.
The Hollywood Wax Museum is filled with some gems of so-bad-it’s-good, as well as some genuinely impressive ones. Haven’t been in years myself, though, so it’s probably changed quite a bit.
^That’s on the WOWOW too. I think it’s just how the scene was filmed. People seem to be confusing “regrade to theatrical” with “perfect balance everywhere” these days…
