Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

For anyone trying to play this on PS4’s media player, here’s the best solution I know of. Download the MKV version (the AVCHD may work as well, but I didn’t try it). Get ffmpeg if you don’t already have it on your computer, and then do the following command:

ffmpeg -i Star.Wars.Despecialized.Edition.v2.5.mkv -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -c:v copy -c:a ac3 -b:a 640K SW_PS4.mkv

Put SW_PS4.mkv onto an exFAT USB drive (FAT32 doesn’t support files over 4GB), in a directory (mine was called PS4, but I think any name is fine). Now you should be good to go!

Note that this file only has the 6 channel audio track, but you will be able to hear it just fine even if you only have a 2 speaker setup or headphones. Even in stereo this track sounds better than the actual theatrical stereo track in the original file. The video quality is identical to the original file, but the audio quality is downgraded from DTS-HD to Dolby Digital (just like the AVCHD version). Chances are your audio setup doesn’t really support HD audio anyway, so you won’t hear a difference. Still sounds great.

I apologize in advance if I’m not able to reply to questions. Thanks to Harmy and the whole OT preservation community for making all this possible.

I just created an account to thank you for these instructions. I haven’t actually tried to playback the resulting file, but I am hoping this will solve my problems. I have been searching for a way to play the MKV file somehow on my existing hardware, and I was thinking it was not worth the effort until I saw this.

<fingers crossed>

Thanks!
