The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) Mango Edition V4 AVAILABLE NOW VIA PM
Time

This is a terrific project idea – thank you for taking it on, and for all of your hard work! I really enjoyed your American Werewolf project (though I haven’t had a chance to check out v2), and am sure this will be absolutely worthwhile. Thanks to the other folks offering the best sources, too! It’s always a bit frustrating when a favorite movie gets a problematic release in my home region, only to find later that a better version has been released somewhere else. Glad for this community!

UPDATE:

Thanks to Neverargreat’s nudging, I’ve desaturated the greens in several places. I need to render out a test video to make sure I didn’t destroy anything on Hoth, where I applied it pretty generally across most of reels 1 and 2, but… I now have the end credits fixed, and I’m now cropping out the black bars and very very slightly adjusted the aspect ratio of the film. I’ve also learned how to put ALL of Harmy’s audio tracks, and chapter breaks with the video, and the video is now being rendered out at “High” level, profile 4.1 for blu ray compliance.

It just doesn’t make sense to me to make an iso, but the mkv will be under 25gigs and you’ll be good to cook your own easily enough.

Hey – great job on this, and thank you for putting in the work to try and preserve a cleaner copy of ESB. I just have a quick question regarding your new version.

When you say “cropping out the black bars”, do you mean that the new video file will have them completely removed? Or that you’re replacing the old ones with solid black bars throughout?

The reason I ask is because if the black bars are completely removed, and the video is output at 2.35:1 (1920 x 816), the file will still not be Blu-ray compliant, and will require re-encoding to make it 1920 x 1080.

I may have misunderstood, but was hoping to clarify just in case.

Added a direct comparison video between untouched and regraded BD: https://vimeo.com/200184533 - have fun, and post your feedbacks!

Looks great! Glad to see you’re working on this again. 😃

One thing did catch my eye, though. The black levels on the regrade didn’t seem to be quite as deep as those in the untouched video. Could that just be related to the compression necessary for streaming?

aside from the laserdisc and vhs is there any better source of this movie? I know it gets aired occasionally and many pages back someone said they aired it in HD, but the quality was no better. There’s several illegal dvds on ebay and a it supposedely gets screened in 35mm once in awhile. Netflix and Amazon have a streaming option for it, does anyone know of anything better out there?

There are a couple of HD rips on the Spleen. No idea how they all compare.

Info: The Black Hole - 1979?

Excellent project idea, DJ!

I, too, prefer the film with the overture, so am glad to hear that’s being included. For those who really don’t care for it, the rest of the film is just a chapter-click away.

A few months back, there were two HD caps of TBH on the Spleen – one with (from itunes, I think) and one without (which had a higher overall video bitrate). I grabbed both, did some cutting and pasting to create a hybrid, and added a 35mm grain plate to the entire affair. As a learning experience produced for casual viewing, I was happy enough with the result, but am very excited to see what you guys put together. 😃

Does anyone here still have my real old HD2DVD project of The Gate? if so is it handy and could you possibly tell me exactly when the broadcast logo appears?

Thanks

Hey Guys does anyone have this handy? I still would really like to know this if someone could please let me know.

Thanks

Just grabbed my copy and watched it at 8x on my laptop. At 44:58 the Monsters HD logo appears, then turns into VOOM or something, then goes away at 45:20. Didn't see any others throughout the rest of the film.

Hope that's helpful -- I'd love to see what you guys can do with this movie! :) My wife and I actually just watched your "Maximum Overdrive" disc last night. Just amazing! Keep up the good work!

Thank you very, very much, so it only appears once? damn this is great if true lol.

No problem -- glad to help! :)
