Maybe drop eedi2 because this is dropping a field and interpolating it if I remember right. This kind of neuters the rest of the filter chain. Also, maybe try qtgmc using inputtype=1 as this might fix the aliasing without dropping and interpolating fields. I definitely would not eedi2 and qtgmc together. Also, move qtgmc up the filter chain to where you currently have eedi2. No need to run it at an upscaled resolution it just takes longer.

I did something similar about a week ago in /r/movies and it pretty much went down in a ball of flames. I can imagine /r/starwars will be even less welcoming. Nevertheless, I upvoted you and all the others. I hope it gains traction.

Not sure about them paying attention but it could be a measuring stick whilst generating some sort of interest. This one here wasn’t posted in /starwars but in /til and it got like 7000+ upvotes about a year ago so it wouldn’t even have to be posted in that subforum.

The footage was never rescanned and I have no idea if there are plans to do that but I doubt it. I have nothing to do with the scan at all. I’m just a guy that downloaded the raw files and decided to sync them to the gout.
I used upscaled gout footage and I made no attempt to make it blend in with the surrounding footage. It’s there as sort of a placeholder, plus it gives you an idea of the difference between the super8mm and the gout. It happens in the middle of the shot where luke is about to run out of the hut with his binoculars to look for r2 and ends right as luke gets attacked by the tusken raider.

What does Puggo have to do with this? The raw files were made available to the public by Antcufaalb and Poita. If anybody wants recognition or feels that I forgot to mention them by all means let me know and I’ll give it.

fwiw, the '89 french gold disc version was the most interesting french release to me despite the horrible pressing quality. The 94 and 95(pyramid) releases were a better pressing but I think they messed with some stuff as the colors don’t seem as vibrant to me. These are all theatrical prints btw.
The 1993 german silver screen collection was also seemingly less tampered with than the later french releases.
My favorite laserdisc thus far is the 82 Pan and Scan version from fox as it is probably the least tampered with. It is, however, pan and scan and I’m not a color guy so I can’t comment as to it’s authenticity but I “think” it’s pretty close to what it should be despite a slight redshift. The print must have been at least 4-5 years old by the time they scanned it and pressed this laserdisc.
On the left is a quick adjustment in vlc. I just adjusted the hue a tad and boosted the saturation. The right side is the original timing of the laserdisc. Assuming that I got the levels right before encoding, that is.
These all looked terrible for me until I downloaded the jpg and viewed it in gimp or photoshop. Does screenshot comparison do some funky stuff when viewing it through the browser? I mean if you look at that snap of luke sitting in the cantina and then download the picture and view it does it look different to anybody else? Perhaps chrome is the culprit, I’m not sure. I just thought I’d throw it out there that downloading the jpg seems to produce better results for me.
BTW, glad to see people tinkering with the laserdisc releases!
Resilio sync seems like an option. Especially if you are behind a vpn. Once a couple people snag the file, bandwidth shouldn’t be too big of a problem even in our small crowd.
It seems to be better than the US boxset to me. The French boxset that I have seems to be a poor pressing or badly converted to pal or both. Star wars is fine but rotj seems to be interlaced the last half hour or something and quite a bit of laser rot. Anyhow the German and British sets look pretty good to me.
I just ripped the uk laserdisc version of the '97SE and the color timing seems to be on point. A little bit more noisy than the us ntsc version. It’ll be interesting to see what the 2000 release from japan looks like.
I’m currently capturing every pal version that I own. I’m doing original trilogy first though in case my laserdisc player takes a crap on me. I imagine I’ll be on the SE versions by the end of the weekend.
2 of the french laserdisc releases and probably 1 of the german laserdisc releases are sourced from a theatrical print.
Hey guys I’ve got the U.S. laserdisc and the UK laserdisc. What should I sync them to? The UK laserdisc seems to be a far sight better than the U.S. one. Probably one of the better looking PAL discs I’ve captured.
I don’t really remember. I believe at the time I didn’t have a good way of capturing the audio and was probably not aware of schorman’s laserdisc audio archive.
Both I guess. It has been denoised. This was necessary due to the rot. Especially side one. Otherwise, I didn’t do much to it.
This kind of situation is the one that I’m always worried about as I have a hardware raid setup at the moment as well. I believe the next time I set up raid it will be software Raid using DMRAID.
Well I wasn’t even planning on posting here. Was just browsing through the thread trying to find a link to some scripts I posted awhile back when my daughter ran along and decided to touch the mouse and double post for me 😃. Anyhow, since I can’t delete this I guess I can announce that an updated 480p version of Star Wars (1130-80) is now up on the spleen.
