Muppet Christmas Carol is on Channel 4 (UK) right now but it’s the theatrical/Blu Ray version. Thought I’d TiVo is just in case but never mind.

Yes, I’ve recorded it in the past, on the off-chance but it has always been the theatrical release.

Yeah, I’ve read that only the theatrical version gets broadcast but it’s always worth checking. DeviantNick’s version is my go-to version for now.

Just a heads up for anyone who might be interested: Channel 4 (UK) are showing the entire trilogy over the Xmas period but they’re all in afternoon to early evening slots, so they’re going to be edited for content. Nevertheless, it might be worthwhile to have a look and check out the print, framing etc. in case they’re aired again during a post-watershed slot.

Also might be worth checking if they use the audio overdubs as well.

According to this thread on Blu Ray.com, “When Love is Gone” is 16:9 HD;

http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=201415&page=34.

There’s also a screenshot comparison with the “MoviesAnywhere” version here, which their version is still 16:9 but slightly cropped;

Same here. I’ve had a laserdisc rip since 2011 which is acceptable but I’d love a restored DVD/HD version.

Here’s an interview with Brian Henson from 2015. There’s discussion about the exclusion of “When Love is Gone” and how he’s nagged Disney to find the film.

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time

The file is 7.58gb and I’m trying to make an AVCHD version using tsMuxeR then burn with ImgBurn, but the files total to 8.25gb and therefor too big to fit on a DVD9. Even after removing all the subtitles it still slightly too big. Any suggestions?

Has anyone tried Dr Dre’s colour match tool to match the Ghostbusters 2014 blu-ray to the 1999 DVD? Same could be done for Ghostbusters 2 as well. Curious to see the results. I am without a capable PC at the moment, otherwise would try myself.

That would be something worth looking into if the outcome is good. You’ll hopefully get the colour grading of the 1999 DVD’s but with the clarity of the current Blu Rays. I wouldn’t have a clue where to begin with a project like that myself. Still haven’t obtained the 1080i HDTV version of GBI so if a colour-match happens I’d be on board for that.

Isn’t “Revelations” the show at the Dominion Theatre in London? If it is, then it IS included in the Ultimate Collection box set and was released as part of “Totally Bill Hicks” DVD and doesn’t look like it was shot on film.

On a side note, as I have that Ultimate Collection box set, I thought the picture quality on all the DVD’s (Revelations/Relentless/One Night Stand/Sane Man) were very inferior compared to the original DVD’s released throughout the early/mid 2000’s. Content-wise, that box set is tremendous, and the CD’s sound fine but the DVD’s were poor. If you have the original individual DVD’s those shows were released on, hold onto them.

for some reason that PCM track doesn’t sync up to my blu ray despite having the same duration and is at 23.976 a shame cause it’ sounds pretty good also had to convert it to PCM for it to work in mkvtoolnix corrupt file perhaps?

tsMuxer didn’t seem to like that file either and I tried to convert it to wav using dBpoweramp and that program didn;t like it either. Just listening to it in isolation, it sounds generally good but there are some cracks and pops here and there.

I think the current 2014/4K master of GB2 looks great as it is - lots of things look improved compared to the 2005 version.

I like the GBII 2014 Blu Ray overall as well. None of the official releases (1999/2005 DVD/2014 BD) are problematic to me. The only gripe I have with the 2005 master is the slight cropping. It’s just the first film I’m a bit more precious about. I just really want that 1080i HDTV version or a colour regarded BD version that matches the 1999 DVD.

You’re welcome. If you can remember, during the 80s, did ITV use the official TV version for GB1, with the alternate dialogue such as “Wally Wick” or did they mute/snip the offending footage? C4/Film4 has held the rights to GB1 for years and they’ve always hacked it to ribbons in order to fit a pre-watershed schedule.

C4 is often a haven for older/alternate masters (Predator, Psycho, Titanic, Explorers) so let’s see what happens. 😃

I don’t remember any 80’s TV airings of either film as I was only born in 1986 but I fully remember when GBI was aired in the early 90’s that it did not replace the “Wally Wick” line or any alternate made-for-TV dialogue. Ray said “…by dickless here”. But i was only about 6 years old at the time and was yet to know what certain words meant! They didn’t edit out all of swear words but the scene with Daina being grabbed by the Zool-arms chair was completely cut. It ended as soon as Daina could see hand/claw prints through the door. I remember it vividly because I (well, my parents) taped both films and I played them constantly. Quite odd because I seem to remember both films being on fair late in the evening. Maybe not quite post-watershed but late enough to not be edited. But like I say, GBI was edited, GBII (which I taped the ITV premier of) was not. In terms of what transfer they used, I’m assuming they were largely the same ones used for the 1999 DVD’s. Those tapes are sadly long gone so I can’t check.

That’s interesting what you say about C4 using old masters which raises my hopes about this airing slightly. The 1999 master of GBII is nothing really to write home about (as much as the 1999 GBI transfer IMPO) but like the original, it’s how I remember it looking and maybe worth preserving. I would not have a clue how to rip from a Virgin Media TiVo box to an mkv though. Don’t think it’s possible through conventional methods. If i am successful in doing so, it will be 25fps as it’s a UK TV airing but still.

Also, end credits (after the Bobby Brown song) will probably be sped-up on the Ch4 broadcast which I assume is the norm these days.

Also, is there an HD version of the 1999 master for Ghostbusters II? I have a 1080i HDTV rip (which i got from rutracker) which is 25fps and uses the same master as the 2005 DVD, as do all the ther HDTVrips I’ve found over the years.

The 2005 master of Ghostbusters II IMO is not as bad as the 2005 master for the original film (even though like the first film, it’s been cropped slightly) and actually has a good colour grade (unlike the 2005 GBI) but I thought for completists sake it would be nice to have HD 1999 masters of both films. The 2014 Blu Ray is decent but a bit too dark.

Channel 4 are broadcasting this next Sunday. It’s scheduled for the afternoon, which means you expect edits for language but if there’s any interest, I’ll happily record it in order to gauge which master it was sourced from - in case they show it again but uncut.

Thanks for the heads-up. I’m from the UK so I’ll Virgin Media it from CH4 HD as well. It’s on at 2:30pm so bound to be edits. I don’t think I’ve seen an edited-for-TV GBII before. I remember when it premiered on ITV back in 1993(?) and it was unedited then, unlike GBI which had edits made to it. When I picked both films up on DVD in 2005 (the 1999 DVDs btw) it was nice to see/hear bits of the original that I’d never seen/heard before.

It’ll be interesting to see what master they use but I doubt they’ll use a pre-2005 master.

I have the 1080i version somewhere and the LD pcm soundtrack. I also have quite a slow connection! If someone could show me an easy place to upload it to, then I’d be happy to share it. I’m thinking an FTP site with resume feature (in case the connection drops), but I can try an upload site as long as it can handle the 8gb file.

If you could upload that somewhere that would be awesome. I have the audio commentary from the Region 1 DVD which i have extracted losslessly, which would presumably synce up well with the 1080i version so long as it’s an NTSC framerate. If anyone needs that I’d happily share but I’ve little experience with uploading stuff publicly.

The 1999 transfer admittedly has a more red-ish tone to it and and tiny bit too dark but it has more natural looking colours than the 2005 (Green Double Feature) DVD. Plus 2005 DVD has been slightly cropped. I think the 2009 Blu Ray is basically a re-scan of the 2005 master. The 2014 Mi4K is probably overall the best all-round version in terms of colour and clarity and an instant recommendation for someone who’s never owned Ghostbusters previously but it’s a bit too bright for my liking. I would just love an HD version of the 1999 transfer purely out of personal preference. It may not be how it looked in theaters back in 1984 but it’s just the version I remember watching on VHS/TV in the early 90’s and later on DVD. If anyone could point me in the right direction of the 1080i HDTV rip of it that would be amazing!
