neither Michael Madson, nor the wonderful Nancy Travis (So, I Married An Axe Murderer - she was cool!) were in Heat. You might be thinking of Ashley Judd or Diane Verona and either Tom Sizemore or Kevin Gage.
I hope you are able to enjoy the edit regardless. I too really like the film. The edit came about because someone here posted it in the wishlist. I found that it was very doable... so I did it! lol

I could take this on. It would take a really long time to figure out what to put where, but it would be interesting. I barely know the movies, and I'm not really much into sci-fi (what am I doing here?
), but my friend seems to think that this is something that would be a fun challenge, and has actually dared me to do it. Whatever, lol, ur on. I'll watch them next weekend ( I get to borrow them, even tho I scratched another movie) and come up with a gameplan. These fan-edits are fun!- Post

Yeah.
Who needs great acting plus character and plot development when you can just throw a ton of action in there when no one speaks.
The great acting is still there, the character development is still there and the plot development is still there. The only story arch removed was the one involving Vincent's home life. It's cliche and does not develop the character at all. He starts as a cop who is over-worked and obsessed, and finishes that way. Therefore, that's all we really need to see of him. Yes, his home life is a disaster. With Neil (De Niro) & Chris (Kilmer), their characters deviate from themselves in the end. Therefore, Ashley & Amy stay.
This was based solely on my opinion. Great film? Yes. Longer than necessary? Yes.
It is still well over 2 hours long. Please don't assume that I made into a "mindless Arnold" movie, as that is far from the truth. It is just an experiment.

Here is my second fan-edit. This time it is the film, "Heat", from 1995. It stars Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro and Val Kilmer.

My edited version of Heat (1995) has taken some of the drama out of the film and made it more of an action thriller. The drama involving Chris (Val Kilmer) and Neil (De Niro) remains, as they are very important aspects of their characters. As for the character played by Al Pacino, his family drama is rather unimportant to the overall story. His character doesn't change from any of the drama. So, all that gets chopped. Bye, bye Natalie. You played the whiney, conceded and overly-dramatic character pretty well - but your scenes take up too much time. The mother of that character is a goner as well. There are also several scenes that I trimmed, such as the whole introduction of the All-State man. Overall, I cut 27 min. out. Started with 2:43, after edits, comes to 2:16.

Hello. I’m hard at work on an edited version of Heat (1995) that will take some of the drama out of the film and make it more of an action thriller. The drama involving Chris (Val Kilmer) and Neil (De Niro) will remain, as they are very important aspects of their characters. As for the character played by Al Pacino, his family drama is rather unimportant to the overall story. His character doesn’t change from any of the drama. So, all that gets chopped. Bye, bye Natalie. There are also several scenes that I think can go to help trim a few things. Overall, I’m estimating a good 20 minutes saved.

Of all the suggestions, I am intrigued by this one the most. I feel that it is perhaps very doable. I think I'm going to add this to my "to-do" list.
I'd like to do this one, but I'm thinking of just cutting out the drama that plagues Pacino's character. I find that leaving the criminals' love stories & interests would keep the story, and the ending, interesting. The whole ordeal with Pacino's cop having to deal with that b!tch of a gf and her whiney daughter could easily be chopped out, but would it be worth it? I love Natalie Portman, but her character makes me want to puke.
Let me know the interest level. I mean, I'm interested in doing it but how many are interested in having an edit of this?

A post by boon23 led me to here. I am the one who has edited Gangs of New York. The edited film was set up with a torrent and was uploaded to Pirate Bay by ineptuser of www.gatheringofgeeks.org/forum.
I had wanted to edit this movie for a couple of years, and finally got around to doing it over a couple nights last week. I was kinda surprised at how relatively easy it was for the most part. Maybe my theory that the character played by Cameron Diaz really wasn't necessary was correct all along! Unfortunately, I had to leave her in a few scenes, particularly at the end, when she is walking with Leo. But, up until that point, she appears to be nothing more than a minor bit player in Leo's ressurrected Dead Rabbits gang.
If any of you watch it, I would welcome feedback
