Info: Blind Date (1987) - 35mm print
Time

I LOVE this movie. Watched it all the time as kid since my mom had it on a tape with “Die Hard” on it. Used to 'double-feature" them all the time. A criminally under-rated 80’s movie (as well as one of the few romantic comedies I’ll actually watch), Phil Hartman AND Will Daniels steal the show every scene they’re in, and of course my favorite joke in the movie:

Ok it’s not FROM the movie, but still a hilarious idea lol.

Anyone know who did this regrade of Terminator 2?
Time

I was scrolling through screenshotcomparison.com last night and came across this:

http://screenshotcomparison.com/images/1472250588_1234650789.jpg

As you can see, the blue color T2 is known for is almost gone. The day time pics aren’t that different.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Info: WORKPRINT - Master List
Time

Ugh. I wish I still had my old movie bootlegs that my dad’s friend used to get us when I was a kid. I always wondered why they had the clock in the bottom right corner and why some of the special effects weren’t finished. Then when I saw the movie for real I wondered why the lines wee spoken differently and the music was different to, lol.

Only example I’ll mention offhand was in Men In Black, when Will Smith gets the drop on the alien and points the gun at him when said alien opens the door. Instead of Will waiting for him, Will is out of breath, leaning against the doorframe, and has to cock his gun before forcing out a “What’s up?” very winded lol.

Superman I-III extended TV cuts & Info - Where have the Preservations gone? (Released)

I’ve made some progress on Superman 2. I have pan and scanned about 2 hours of the bluray to recreate the TV cut. Still need to do the last half hour. The whole thing is going to need colour correcting to match all of the different sources. I’ve used the opening and end credits from a HDTV rip since the whites are blown out on the bluray and they look bad. I’ve also done this for a few shots where detail is lost from the blow out, explosions and stuff like that. The VHS footage still needs to be upscaled and added in. I’m looking into how to do that in best quality.

You are the man. I can’t wait to see this.

Boosh, don’t forget that Zod’s speech in the FOS ("Did you really think we’d give up our advatnage? No!!"etc…) in the RIC was a different line reading. It’s Stamp’s original voice in a higher pitch. In the theatrical, his voice is in a lower pitch, and he delivers the line in a bit more of a humorous tone. I prefer the RIC version.

I wish the DC didn’t retain the shot of Zod levitating the shotgun. I believe there’s a fan edit that makes it look like Zod uses super-speed to retrieve the gun instead – that’s clever!

And while I like the memory kiss over repeating the end of S1, part of me wonders if the Supes/Lois storyline shouldn’t just end with the balcony breakup. Too depressing, I know… but narratively, it’s elegant.

Booshman did the super speed trick.

In my edit, when Zod says “A weapon of some sort” after the shot of the cop holding the gun, and the other cop sticking his head out of the car, I cut to Zod using his heat vision, the cop in the car trying to hide in the car (when Non approaches) and then a stock footage video I found of a similar looking car blowing up in a similar location. Then cut back to the establishing shot in reverse and then cut to the villains flying away. Oh, and those 2 cops obviously don’t show up anywhere in the entire Idaho scenes.

As for the ending. my edit uses the Lester amnesia kiss scene, but instead I changed the music so that it’s a happy moment when they kiss, and after they kiss I use the RIC line where Lois says “I won’t tell anyone who you are” while Perry is watching from his office, shrugs his shoulders, and walks away. Cue some NYC establishing shots for a sunset, fade to black. Fade in to the next morning and we go to the DC “pizza scene”, with some more revisions so that it seems like Lois still knows his secret and is ok with it, and they play along like 2 lovers with a secret.

“You know you’re really super…”

  • Clark looks at her with a cautious look like “Waitamimute”

  • Lois gives him a thumbs up and smiles.

  • Clark walks away and Lois starts typing.

Terminator 2: 80's synth edition/No social commentary edition (title pending) (Released)

Finally got Sony Vegas and am beginning to learn some real color correction. The outdoor night shots are going to be a real hassle, as I’m pretty Cameron had colored lights on set to help facilitate the blue look he wanted. But for now, some of the indoor night shots are a bit easier to achieve. Here’s some before and after comparison shots:

I think this a pretty good preset. The blu’s aren’t gone completely, but there’s no red shift or dare I say teal anywhere. Looks perfectly neutral to me.

Look up a faneditor named “Booshman”. He’s done a few things that I can honestly say are just as good as Selutron. I’ve had dozens of ideas over the years to also try and fix Superman 2, and since Booshman has the skills, I threw him some of my ideas, and he liked them.

Preview:

Supes flying off to go get dinner, instead of just walking outta frame with a ‘whoosh’ sound effect http://vimeo.com/43956069

Superman repowered. This one is very rough and the finished edit will look perfect. This was one of my ideas that’s been in my head for at least 7 years now. When he showed me this preview clip I had tears in my eyes cuz I was so happy to see it in real life and not just my head http://vimeo.com/32833584

And one of my favorites, his attempt at putting the ORIGINAL version of the Donner breakup scenes at the end as they were originally done in the TV edit of the film with Margot’s REAL voice and not a voice double (as the Donner Cut used for no reason whatsoever). Better score music was used here as well http://vimeo.com/112925923

Alien/Aliens Color Regrade (a WIP)
Time

Just finished watching it. The colors definitely stand out. The one part that was jarring color-wise was the very end when Ripley shoots the alien outta the shuttle. The shots of Ripley had blue and yellow flashing while the shots of the alien (both in the doorway and then out in space) were very gray. I don’t know the exact colors of the film print itself so I’m guessing that was intentional.

The '95 dolby audio was also a new way to hear the film, as there were sound effects I never heard before, as well as more than a few audio cuts where one ended and another began (usually when shots would change to other areas with other members of the crew). Though to be fair, I’ve always remembered the sound of this film being a little weird to say the least. Like how when Parker and Lambert encounter the alien, Parker is clearly screaming, but the only sound is music. And Lambert’s final screams echoing throughout the corridors sounds like Ms. Cartwright did 7 takes and the sound editor used them all and layered them all over each other lol.

Anyway, I appreciate your efforts and can’t wait for Aliens next!!
