What I would consider a worthy extra is a reel that has the edited cues re-instated and/or scenes that were recut to presented in their original form with their unedited cues (like the Sail Barge assault).

The old EditDroid set did this.

Also, the mono versions of Empire and Jedi were likely downmixes of the stereo tracks (possibly the L, R, & C channels or the full matrixed stereo). By 1980 there wasn’t much point

While I agree that would make sense, in these cases (and Raiders as well), they were indeed different. The same kinds of variations we see between original SW mixes pop up in these as well (different ADR takes, on-set audio instead of ADR, different sound effects, etc.)

Just to help sweep the Burtt damage thing away as anything related to the purposes of this thread:

As TServo said, he would not have been handling negative. No one but the lab would have been handling negative. By "every screening" he would've meant during post production, not theatrical exhibitions. Nothing seen in theaters is ever a copy of anything in a work print. A workprint is a branch of the tree that has no branches of its own. When a work print is finalized, the edge numbers are matched up back at the lab and the Negative Cutter conforms the negative to match, and THEN copies made from that. The only time workprint is duplicated is for promotional stuff: trailers, TV spots, documentaries, etc.

So the damage he made would have no bearing on the Taxonomy effort.

We've covered this in the thread, but no, there is no phone number on the CAV LD, nor confirmed on any other source ever. Even the workprint used in the TV special "Roger Rabbit and the Secrets of Toontown" (produced before the theatrical release) does not have it.

I don't know how they got a release year and special features details out of that one mention, but:

James Cameron has teased us for years that a True Lies Special Edition Blu-Ray was in the works but at last it’s been confirmed by Harry Tasker’s daughter, Eliza Dushku. While on Chris Hardwick’s The Nerdist program on BBC America, Dushku blurted out that she’d just finished participating in work on a True Lies commentary for the Blu-ray when asked by the host what she’s been up to. Look for the release next year along with many special features and those long-lost deleted scenes! 2014 just happens to be the 20th Anniversary for True Lies.

The added FX shot of the Slave I chasing the Falcon lengthened the scene, so keeping the music the same at the end of the scene means it starts at a different spot earlier. So the surge you speak of necessarily occurs a little later, the same length of time of the new shot. They did, however, use more of the music cue than before, to make up for it. The theatrical picks up the cue as performed/recorded a few seconds in.

Anyone who's seen the recent remasterings of The Twilight Zone on DVD and bluRay knows how fun it is to see this stuff intact.

I'd love to see this happen. I started off taping them, but then gave up and didn't even save what I had.

This might seem a silly request, but there was one episode of this Sci-Fi run (and unfortunately I don't remember which one) that aired the original art card (of the Enterprise in orbit around a planet with the ST logo beneath) that exists on the negatives after the opening credits. It's silent, to allow room for a network audio cart to be played on air of an announcer saying "Star Trek, brought to you by"...at which point an ad would have been spliced in.

The card lasts maybe 4 seconds, and seems odd and out of place in a modern context, especially without an announcer. It's the only time I've ever seen it aired, (not being quite old enough to have watched the original network run), and to me is an interesting document of how the episodes were delivered to the network. So, if and when you're digitizing the intros, please zip forward though the credits and see if you can find the one time this happened, and preserve it, too.

Editdroid used mostly RCA/Victor, although a few ROTJ takes did not match and the prior Fox CD box set was used instead. The film soundtrack itself was used for part of the end credits of ESB (part of the Imperial March) because none of the released CDs had the correct take.

Just found this thread, looking forward to following the progress!! Years ago someone did this, but from what I saw it wasn't my cup of tea.

This might be sacrilege, but check out Michael Giacchino's score to The Incredibles. VERY Barry.

I don't know if this would help, but I recorded the entire series off of Sci-Fi channel in the 90s...

Thanks for the Boop detective work, guys! I've been saying for years there was no evidence that this ever existed, and now you've found it!

You (or those reporting it) might've been misled by the fact that the scene was altered during a later stage of editing the film....before release. When Sotheby's auctioned off a bunch of cels from the film, one of them showed Baby Herman inserting a bill or two into his assistant's cleavage (remember, he was sending her off to bet on a horse for him). In the final film, this shot is replaced by a closeup of Eddie.

There were a few late changes like this, toning down some of the adult elements. ADR of Wise Ass saying "bull schtick" instead of the other word, and Maroon telling Eddie he has a lot of "brass" instead of balls.

...but, again, these were pre-release "changes", if that is even the right word.

I'm currently downloading the files for the 1985 home stereo mix from the Star Wars Laser Disc Audio Archive torrent on the spleen. 

If they're just raw captures from a post-85 but pre-93 laserdisc, they would not be GOUT-synched.

This was part of the first editdroid release of ANH, although it was mislabeled as the original Dolby Stereo mix. Gout-synched.

They said it came from a late 1980s laserdisc.

That making of DVD is garbage. It's just a couple of very short fluff promotional pieces made back in the day, with very, very little interesting making-of content. What's worse, it's obviously gone through several video generations, and for some reason they have hosted introductions (circa 1980 by the looks of it), produced under the "it has to look like the Academy Awards" mindset, with a guy in a tux in front of lush crimson drapery. (Wow, it's a celebration! Break out the bubbly, we're in for quite a treat!) He actually says "so sit back, relax..."  TWICE. I've never understood the need of some content producers to have someone tell us what we're about to see. Just show it already.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to include it in a preservation, though... if only ironically.

Netflix has it listed as a disc 2 for the film, but, as you say, it had to have been released separately. Looked like a different animal to me. Unique label, different distributor, etc.

The dust is from the 3M reflective material scraping off the blades when they are rubbed against each other.

They're splice marks from the negative. Every single negative is going to have this, it's just that most transfers don't reveal the uppermost part of the frame.

I found it via a posting on the CartoonBrew.com facebook page--someone visited them museum, took a photo of the cover and named the publisher.
