Saw The Lion King. Thank god it was free (I work at the theater) because it was quite the dumpster fire.

The HBO version of Kong changes shot for shot to preserve certain framing. The theatrical version and the Blu-ray are locked 2.4:1.
The Shape of Water - 9/10
Beautiful.
Pitch Perfect 3 - 3/10
Oof.
Downsizing - 5/10
Interesting themes but falls apart narratively.
The Greatest Showman - 6/10
Fun but not historically accurate to how much of an ass P.T. Barnum was.
I saw it in 70mm and while the yellow tint definitely isn’t right, the regrade looks just a little TOO cool.
Coco - 8.5/10
With the accusations against John Lasseter (a former inspiration of mine) having just come out, this was a bit of an uncomfortable watch. However, removing the executive producer from the picture, this is an excellent film with a lot of heart and emotion. If it wasn’t for those accusations making for a really uncomfortable viewing, I’d probably give it a 9/10.
Thor: Ragnarok - 8/10
This movie Ragna-rocked. It really brings the thunder with the action, humor, and characters. It’s a banner of what Marvel Studios does well.
Yeah, I’ll see myself out for those puns.
The Princess Bride - 8/10
Yadda yadda I’m a filthy millenial. Saw this for the first time through Fathom Events and man, I loved it. Great absurdist humor and fantasy storytelling.
Blade Runner 2049 - 9/10
Oh wow look, a sequel released several decades after its predecessor that doesn’t feel like a retread or a greatest hits montage, and actually builds on and improves upon the original.
Let’s not forget: “I got the test results back. I definitely have breast cancer.” Golden.
The Room - 9/10
Picked up a copy of The Disaster Artist earlier this week, so I decided to watch the movie all the way through. This was the hardest I’ve laughed in a while. I hate it so much but I can’t help but enjoy the hell out of it.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle - 6.5/10
Not 100% sure how I feel about this one, but one thing is that it could’ve been a lot tighter. Definitely didn’t need to be 141 minutes. Still, a load of fun.
The LEGO Ninjago Movie - 6/10
There’s some genuinely brilliant moments in this movie. Too bad they’re sandwiched between generic or downright cringeworthy scenes.
Oh boy I made a bunch of people feel old. I’m 15. I don’t know if I’m making things better with that statement.
Robots was the first movie I ever saw in theaters. Saw it at a 70mm IMAX theater that only does digital now.
I’m so sorry to hear about this Poita. Best wishes.
I enjoy Netflix’s Death Note. I think it’s a lot of fun.
I love that movie. It’s funny, but also very inspirational.
And you could do much worse than to become someone who chases his dreams until he succeeds. He’s doing fairly well.
When you put it like that… yeah. But after I watched it I had the thought of being watched in a high school classroom and being laughed at by a bunch of teachers and still living in the same house (or neighborhood, can’t remember) as your parents at age 30.
American Movie - 8/10
Really funny documentary we watched in my film production class, little bit depressing though. Hope I don’t turn out like that guy.
Is the IT 2017 remake better than the original TV Movie?
Definitely. This one is actually scary.
IT - 8/10
Spooky.
Oh yeah, don’t get me wrong, I loved the look of the film, not to mention that the sound mix sounded like it was recorded yesterday without feeling overly processed. Overall a great theatrical experience.
Did the 4K remaster keep the film grain?
Yes, the remaster was very grainy but showed a lot of detail.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind - 9/10
Being the uncultured millennial swine that I am, I had never seen this film. When it was rereleased for its 40th anniversary, I lept on the chance to see it, and I was stunned. Truly spectacular. Unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
Inhumans - 4/10
This was in an IMAX theater and edited to be like a movie, so I think this applies here. There were some fun parts but oof, most of it is pretty rough. The opening scene was utter garbage. They were basically jerking off to the fact that it’s IMAX, and the result of which was really, really terrible. It got better as it went along but not a great first impression.
Death Note (2017) - 7/10
Honestly, I enjoyed the hell out of this. Some great visuals, cast is pretty good, especially Dafoe as Ryuk. Never read the manga or watched the anime so I can’t compare them, but I can say that this adaptation/reimagining is a lot of fun.
Death Note - 1/5
Willem Dafoe is good, but is a second-rate Green Goblin (he didn’t seem as invested as he could have been). Everything else is incoherent. I haven’t even seen the anime or anything, but I don’t care to. I didn’t even want to watch this.
