GODZILLA (2014) THE GOJIRA CUT Fan Edit - A comprehensive re-edit (Released)
Time

Here I am with an update. I am so pleased to share with you…

GODZILLA: THE GOJIRA CUT
A comprehensive retooling of the 2014 film

Godzilla: The Gojira Cut effectively reworks the film to play out more in tone with what the trailers advertised. Instead of running as a generic action flick with excess subplots and unnecessary humor, the movie now tells a more personal story. One that doesn’t distract from the main character, Ford Brody, and his journey home. Almost all scenes with his wife and son, Elle and Sam Brody, are removed, except for their final appearances. What matters is the audience seeing Ford and his efforts to get to them. Think of it as being inspired by Gladiator (2000). Another priority of the edit is to fix the atrocious color correction and brightness of the official Blu-ray. Each scene is now individually corrected to bring out the best possible realistic presentation. Various sequences in the film have been cut down or shortened, such as the opening Janjira power plant scene, all in effort of delivering a more serious story with the material given.

Special thanks to JawsTDS for all his advice.

The Gojira Cut is currently planned for an October 11th release, probably available on Myspleen first, and then it will find it’s way onto ExtraTorrent and FanEdit.info. It will be released as a BD-50, 2-pack BD-25, and simple MKV. The BD versions will include bonus features!

Bonus features of BD releases include:
*All deleted sequences from the film.
*All trailers available in HD or even uncompressed quality (from iTunes).
*All available HD TV spots.
*Various interviews from cast & crew, including the complete “Meet The Director” series with Gareth Edwards.
*Behind-the-scenes footage (Day 1 shooting/Making The Music/etc.)
*ALL featurettes from the Blu-ray releases are included in the BD versions of this edit.
*ALSO INCLUDES THE ‘GODZILLA: REBIRTH OF AN ICON’ DOCUMENTARY FROM THE TARGET EXCLUSIVE BLU-RAY.

Changelog for the edit:
*COMPLETELY OVERHAUL BRIGHTNESS AND COLORS OF THE BLU-RAY VIDEO. SOME SCENES ARE CORRECTED SHOT-BY-SHOT.
*Default Warner Bros. logo changed to ‘The Dark Knight’ Warner Bros. Logo
*Removed sequence of Joe and his family at Janjira home. Cuts from ‘Janjira, Japan’ card to Joe walking into power plant.
*Custom 15 years later title card. Cut out entire San Francisco sequence. Cuts to Tokyo, Japan with Ford at the police station.
*Cut out Serizawa explaining the electromagnetic pulse in the Janjira control room. We already know about it as an audience.
*Cut out Elle trying to call Japan and freaking out.
*Removed line in helicopter ride “Come on Joe, hang in there, buddy.”
*Cut out Ford trying to call home to Elle/shot of helicopter heading to Hawaii.
*Cut out Sam watching the ‘Devastation of Honolulu’ on TV.
*Removed Serizawa’s line “I think Godzilla was only listening,” to create consistency.
*Removed scene of firefighters in Vegas. Unnecessary humor that takes away the tension.
*Cut out small scene of Ford on the C-17 plane.
*Cut out Elle in the hospital and Ford talking to her on the phone.
*Cut out Elle being at the hospital during evacuation and putting Sam on the bus.
*Cut out Elle watching jet fall and slam into building.
*Cut Ford asking if Sam and Elle made it out of the city.
*Cut small scene of male MUTO and Godzilla encounter and door slam. Removes Elle once again and gets rid of the unnecessary teasing.
*Other small trims, etc.

NO CHEESY EDITS. I PROMISE. NO CRAP LIKE PUTTING IN THE GODZILLA THEME.

EXPLANATIONS FOR SOME EDITS:
Many of the cuts chosen were done to bring more gravitational weight to the characters and their struggles. You’d be surprised how much a small edit can radically change some scenes in a film. By cutting out the introduction of Joe and his family in their Janjira home, it makes the later scene in Joe’s apartment all the more heartbreaking. By not knowing he sent Sandra down to investigate, it makes it more sad when he finally reveals to Ford, and the audience as well, “Because I sent her down there son.” Originally, the audience kind of just played along with the scene, because we already knew he sent her. But now, the scene can have more emotional weight by making it more of a surprise. Moving on, by cutting out Elle and Sam Brody and their mostly pointless scenes, it gives the audience more time to spend with Ford, putting themselves in his shoes. By not giving the wife and son a face until the end, it helps the audience relate to Ford more as a person. The movie is now about his journey, and not a standard disaster movie with cookie-cutter copy-paste scenes.

Ideas Wanted: Planning on a fan edit of Godzilla (2014). Need genuine, serious suggestions.
Time

Being someone who’s already a huge fan of the film, with not many complaints in mind at the point of writing this, it’s hard for a fan like myself to see any huge glaring flaws that may have detracted from the writing.

I’ve already started initial work on it, and I have some key ideas I’m definitely going to do.

-Change Warner Bros. logo to be colored like The Dark Knight opening version.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTw4hNcPoWI&ab_channel=KiNoLoGoIntroRelease

-COMPLETELY OVERHAUL the brightness and color correction of the movie. Make it look more like how the trailers and behind the scenes footage looked.

-Either totally remove the opening power plant sequence or just trim it down.

-QUESTION: Should I remove the title cards that say “Philippines 1999” and “15 YEARS LATER”? I will definitely be removing the sequence of Brody with his family in San Francisco. So, should I have it transition from the power plant sequence to Brody sitting in the front room of the Tokyo jail house?

-Trimming down the Janjira revisit, which includes removing some of the unnecessary exposition from Ken Watanabe.

-CUT OUT ALL SCENES WITH BRODY’S WIFE AND HIS SON. I want to keep it so you don’t see what his wife looks like until he pulls out the picture on the Osprey plane right before the Halo jump. That way it surprises you when you see her in the middle of the destruction during the final fight. This way, it makes the movie a more personal story about Brody and his journey. Seeing his wife again is just simply a motivation tool. We don’t need scenes with her.

-Or, another idea I had was, keep her in small parts of the movie, like when she’s reacting to the jets falling out of the sky, but you don’t know who she is (Kinda like how they focused on the kid in the tram at Hawaii, but we didn’t know if he was a major character or not) Show her in a part here and there, and then reveal that she is his wife, when he’s looking at the picture.

-Cut out otherwise any unnecessary humor. This is supposed to be a more serious take on the story.

-Rework some of the faint background music and sound effects. (Again, to make the film more scary and serious.)
I’ve only started coming up with ideas and testing them out in Vegas. My changes will evolve overtime, but I’d like your input. What are some of your biggest gripes with the movie and how could they be altered to better suit your viewing experience?

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you all!

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII: The Shadow Revealed (FAN EDIT BY THAT_OT_RULER) NEW PREVIEW CLIPS
Time

I should’ve mentioned I didn’t put the music in yet for the Han exposition scene. That clip was to show off I removed the “bypassing the compressor” part and Chewie being injured. As for the colors in the finale, I may tone them down a bit, as I was messing around with it, and liked the stylized colors I got.

Time

Happy May the 4th everyone!

Sorry for not being as active. You already know the reasons. I’m still working on the edit the best I can. I’m close to being 1/4 finished to making a complete audio overhaul, with all the music removed, EXCEPT for the vision sequence. If anyone would want to join me in my efforts, please do! Try editing the audio yourself.

But anyways, for today, I got a few new preview clips, including the first 5 minutes of the edit! (Music only)

NOTE: THE COLOR CORRECTION IS KIND OF MESSED UP IN THESE CLIPS.
Thanks for your support and enjoy.

In my edit these thing mostly have been addressed. It is already released. You can PM for a copy. 7.1 DTS TRUE HD mix is a lot different than a DD 5.1 Standard mix. Just by down converting this is already sounds more like the older films. Keep in Mind this is John Williams we are talking about. Also please note that your setup makes a huge difference…

You can say that again. My ****ing edit is taking so much longer to make because of the awful mixing.

Yeah, not on a Star Wars movie, but films like Saw and the 2005 King Kong have much better audio channels than this.

At risk of veering off-topic, what did you do with “Saw”? Genuinely curious. You can PM me if you don’t want to clutter the thread.

I don’t have the edit anymore, and I unfortunately never uploaded it, but I cut back on some of dialogue that was a little too cheesy, mainly from Adam. Also, during some of the tense scenes, like the finale car chase, I slowed down and cut out some of the shots that were sped up and little too flashy. Other than that, I didn’t do much. Just mostly dialogue cuts. But the music in the movie was in its own channel. So with one simple mute button, I could have the whole movie without music. It was beautiful.

Huh, that’s a very interesting idea. I’m not an artist at all myself, but if done well, this could be pretty cool. However, when would you implement these matte paintings? Most of the movie is either close ups, or CGI moving shots. There aren’t many places you could put a matte painting in. Still sounds cool. Any color correction for the rest of the movie? That’s what I’m doing for my edit.

Actually, I downloaded 4 GB of sound effects ripped from EA’s Battlefront. Tons and tons of original trilogy sounds in great quality, with forest Endor sounds, vehicles, people, weapons, explosions, and so much more. It’s amazing. I own the game too. Really love it.

Also, update, the one scene I will not be replacing the music for is Rey’s vision. Trying to fuck with the audio in that scene would remove and ruin the little hidden sounds and vocals lurking in the vision. Leaving that scene alone.

Oh, it totally is. It’s why my edit is taking a long time. I’ve already got my main edits done, it’s just the godforsaken audio. As for replacing sound effects in some places, I don’t mind. Most of the lasers and stuff sound freaking cool, like when the Millennium Falcon flies into the ship on Jakku; those laser sounds from the Falcon sound really explosive and cool. But on the other hand, the explosion and laser sounds for the X-wing fight on Maz’s castle, sound really lame. Really nothing impressive or special.
