What didn't you like about TFA? SPOILERS
Time

Like I said earlier, it’s a “Sharknado” moment. Any time you get into the, “But then why couldn’t…” moment, you’ve created something contrived. That is, if Ren can freeze blaster bolts in midair, why couldn’t Vader have frozen the blaster bolts fired by the crew of the Blockade Runner in the first movie?

Yeah, why didn’t Vader do this on the Blockade Runner either?

Anyway, in my mind, the reason why Force users can pull off impressive feats with the Force for one situation and not the other is because it depends on how vulnerable they are. Yoda has a calm environment/mind and can focus intensely on the X-Wing. Luke on Hoth could pull his lightsaber out of the snow since there was only one known threat in his presence and he could separate it in his mind. Vader stopped Han’s blaster shots because Vader only had to focus on that alone since nothing else was threatening him.

Kylo Ren could freeze that blaster bolt since that was the only threat to him and he could focus just on that. A Force user trying to do impressive stuff with many things going on leaves them vulnerable to being attacked from multiple sides. Imagine Yoda trying to stop a whole fleet of Star Destroyers while laser bombardment rained on his location. I don’t think he could do it with so much chaos.

Last movie seen
Time

Just finished Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. I must say, this movie really pulled off a sense of urgency during the intense battle scenes! Also, in comparison to the Fellowship of the Ring, this movie had my attention all the way through since I felt like there was finally a chance for the characters to breathe and get to know them a little better (imo). Add to the fact, some of the humor was spot on!

Jason Wingreen has died (original voice of Boba Fett)
Time

I sadly have more ingrained memories of the 2004 voice (it’s even depressing that an upcoming generation of SW fans will not know of his Boba Fett role), but Jason’s voice definitely faintly registers in my mind when the old '97 VHS still had a life in them. Wingreen gave Boba Fett more character for sure and I applaud him for it, especially for taking part in one of my all time favorite Star Wars movies!

Thank you Jason Wingreen, and may the Force be with you, always.

YouTube/Vimeo/etc... Star Wars video finds
Time

Years ago, I came across this video. As you will see, it’s unfinished and there’s no sound. I then added music/sound effects. I was compelled to do it because it really seemed like an interesting intro for a fan SW film. Like some rebels hijacked a Star Destroyer in order to find the Death Star during its construction and relay the information to the Rebel Alliance. Of course, plan fails and ensue Imperial attack!

Really wish the original person came back to Youtube and finish the job, but he or she hasn’t been on for a long, long time…,

Idea: Two Prequels instead of Three
Time

I don’t mean to sound rude here… but if you create a trailer for a fan edit, it should ideally show what sets your edit apart from the main films. That trailer comes across more as a weird sequence of scenes, too much dialogue, reusing existing trailers from TPM/AotC, and throwing a TFA trailer themed score on top with jarring existing music.

In hindsight, it may be rather redundant to make a trailer for a fan edit if the core story is the same and you’re rearranging/cutting scenes.
Actually, the best ‘trailer’ you can do is simply making a changelist of what you’re doing in the edit.

Will the anthology films be a repeat of the prequels?

Uh, sorry to tell you, but the Old Republic is no longer canon. RIP Darth Revan and Darth Bane.

There’s no official word from Disney. It’s in the grey zone for now since it’s story related material that doesn’t contradict the main films/new canon.

But what I’m saying is that good Star Wars stories CAN be told when they’re set far apart from the main films. Something either set far in the future or far in the past.

I really wish these Anthology films could explore Star Wars stories that weren’t so closely tied to the films. Luscasfilm went back 4,000 years before our main Star Wars story takes place and really knocked it out of the park!

For now, I’m sitting on the fence. I welcome well written character driven Star Wars stories (since that’s what these films will have to pull off when we know the overall story outcome), but if it fails to deliver… well whatever I guess. They tried!

The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS **

Alderaan said:
The only reason why the Hosnian system seems to matter is because we are told it’s an important place, but unlike Alderaan, we are not shown it’s an important place in relation to our characters and the plot.

I disagree there. While I’m not sure which character said it (only saw it once), but I believe C3PO said that the Honsian System was where the New Republic and its entire fleet was housed. This plays big into the plot because now, there’s a huge power vacuum. We can deduce that the entire armada of the First Order wasn’t on Starkiller base since Snoke’s reaction was more “bring Kylo to saftey” and less/non-existent reaction of “Shit, my whole army is vaporized!”

So therefore, the destruction of the Honsian System showed how the Cold War-esque era is now over and puts the galaxy out of balance. It’s probably reasonable to assume that the First Order will have more of an advantage, numbers-wise.

The databank entry on the official site says the new TIE’s are hyperspace capable.

Interesting. That answers that then.

I suppose it could be argued Hyperdrive technology improved similar to how computer chips get tinnier as the years went on in real life.

It’s just a little nitpick thing though. I liked OT Tie Fighters in that it showed how it was different from Rebel ships. Ties are mass produced and disposable (hence its stripped down design that sacrifices the hyperdrive). Alliance ships on the other hand are limited but highly useful and its loss during battles is larger. The ship, like an X Wing, becomes your companion that can take you anywhere.

Then again, times are a little different compared to OT. Each side is more leveled so I’m interested in the direction it takes to add the tension.

@SilverWook

Yeah, I don’t mind the design changes myself either. But I am really curious if these new Tie’s can do hyperspace. To be frank, I’d rather they couldn’t since their design seemed inherently incapable of storing a hyperdrive compared to X-Wing class ships.

@ZkinandBonez

Well to be fair, the holochess bit is pretty small scale to begin with.
When it comes to creatures interacting with characters, that’s when it matters. It’s hard for me to describe it. To me, there tends to be this consistent look to creatures in Star Wars. Humanoid alien creatures blend in, and more off the wall creatures are shown little of themselves which creates a nice illusion of seeming real but at the same time, even if they’re gimmicky, you can’t see the full thing (A New Hope garbage compactor, Empire’s Wampa scene pre-SE, and RotJ Sarlacc pre-SE/rancor). So in TFA, that particular creature comes across as extreme cheese when you see this hyper active slimy squid monster comically drag away Finn in a MiB like way.

However, this is all to preference understandably. It isn’t really that much of a big deal anyway since it bares little impact on the film overall.
