The rip of the new HDTV is available on a well known site, in case anyone is interested. Compressed to 2.1gb but still a progress over all previous versions.
For some reasons, some people did their own rips and there are mono versions all over the place now. The 2.1 is kickass ;)

I have a laserdisc audio rip of the LD commentary if you want it.
Had no idea either something was cut on the DVD from that original LD commentary.
IMAX is open matted on all shots.
Hi the film looked like the trailer.
The film (T2) was altered for home video release so that the film looks OK on all old tube TVs.
T2 was blue, blue, blue --

DYS is longer in the italian DVD, there's about 37 seconds more than the US disc.
I'm sure the US Blu will be the same cut version.

It looks like there's more image at the bottom in some shots on the Blu-ray. Will you adjust that too?
How about using the Blu-ray as the main source and just adjusting the colors, instead of using the HDTV?
For certain the original 1.95:1 LD with the original sound mix will NOT be coming on Blu.
Just restore it.
The german disc looks like it has more detail, however I read some people complaining about the compression.
My guess is wait for the Shout version and compare.
At worst, do the additional soundtrack version in english (or better, do it so that you can mix it with the other foreign languages too)
The movie came out in 1979 in germany. Somehow, many previously silent parts of the film have Carpenter music added in the german mono dub. Rumors is that Carpenter may have done it, thought publishers deny it as there is no proof on the web he did it.
It's all done professionaly and mixed to perfection, so my guess is that Carpenter didn't like the silent part, and added music to make the film drag less.
It's the same cues as the music soundtrack, so I'm guessing it should be easy to reconform the US mono soundtrack by adding them and mixing them in. I can provide you the german mono if you want :)
Here's an idea: The German Assault 13 have the best colors, but not the best compression. Since it uses the exact same master as the recent edition, perhaps you should apply the colors to a better encoded master.
+ the german dub have about 20mn of additional music in the film. How about recutting that music in the US soundtrack?
+ put in there the LD soundtrack music (and use it for conforming the german audio music to the US soundtrack) and LD sound.

Those scenes in 1991 were color timed blue as they appear in this making of (it was edited prior to the film release), however, since laserdisc and DVD and Blu-ray, the scene is now warm orange brown.
I feel any "restoration" project should get those scenes back to the theatrical colors they had originally.
That means nothing, edited before release means more than likely the wrong timing.

Hi Mike, I saw T2 10 times theatrical year of release. The bar scene was color timed blue in all the theaters I saw it in, just like it's blue on the making of. I believe it might be a worthy addition to any project, to restore that blu tint for that scene. You have the making of as reference so it shouldn't be hard.

Keep to the THX, and in the cases where the blue is gone like the first cap, keep the blue from the laser.
