Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

I’ll take a stab at using the app you suggested instead. Since the tracks being extracted are smaller than the file as a whole (obviously), I’m not forced to use my exFAT USB for it - I can reformat one of my smaller ones to FAT32. The dedicated thread on PS3 playback does detail breaking the file down into tracks to skirt the 4GB limit, so that part shouldn’t be a problem. If it is, I’ll just extract the whole thing onto my lappy and plug the lappy directly into my TV. I think that’ll be slightly preferable to trying to Chromecast it from the lappy to the TV; I fear the sheer loss that would invite. Will update soon.

Hello again friends,

I abandoned trying to get the files to run on my PS4 - media playback on that thing is too buggy to begin with, and everything I’ve read indicates that PS3’s playback is a more generally stable option. Also, I didn’t need admin access to get all of the required programs to extract etc. 2.5 to run on PS3, which is a small but happy miracle. But I’m still not there yet.

I’m running mkvextractgui to get the proper A/V tracks, and in fact have been running the program all night, but to no avail.

The image is not pasting, but it shows the extraction is running, but is at 0% (and has been for the last 15 hours). I am extracting tracks 1, 2, & 4, for no other particular reason than they are the tracks extracted in the example on the dedicated thread. The flash drive to which I am extracting is exFAT, not FAT32, if that’s significant. Anybody have any tips on how to kick this thing into gear? My wife is getting antsy about wanting to see the Trilogy for the first time.

Thanks all.

Update: none of the 1977 sound files would run properly muxed into the video - they’d all run on the PS4 for a few moments with choppy AV, then cut out into a “cannot play the media” message that I received before. I hit closer with the Laserdisc audio muxed into the video, at least in that it never cut out on me completely. It was still akin to playing a scratched DVD, so it warrants more experimentation. I’d download the programs I need to convert the files for use on my PS3, but my lappy is work-provided, and most programs require admin approval for installation. Frankly, I was surprised mkvmerge was able to run without a hitch. Work in progress.

Alright then. I’m trying to see if I can manage to muddle my way through mkvmerge to set up the audio codec in a way that my PS4 isn’t going to whine at. I did notice when I checked the file info through the PS4 Media Player app, it said “none” for the audio codec, so maybe whatever I’m going to bumble into shall help. Fingers crossed!

How are you gentlemen!!

My wife has never experienced any kind of Star Wars before, except through the standard cultural osmosis. I’m trying to do this the right way, starting this evening. I’ve got the file, and I’ve got it on my exfat reformatted Flash Drive. I have made no other alterations to the files than this. I plugged the Flash into my PS4, and the Media Player finds the file. I click on it, but I am rebuffed with a simple, “Cannot play the media.” It looks like a proper MKV. Don’t know precisely where to go with this.

For the record, my PS3 doesn’t even acknowledge the presence of a FD, so that’s weird.

So much for date night…
