Thanks for all suggestions/advice so far, the Jambe Davdar doco’s look facinating! Would watching them ruin/make listening to the OT commentaries redundant?

The interesting parts of the DVD commentaries that aren’t modern fabrications (Lucas saying he planned for Luke and Leia to be twins from the beginning, etc) are included in the the Filmumentaries.

Oh good aha! Thanks 😃

Jambe’s filmumentaries are must watches for sure. The overlap between the content on it and the DVD commentaries isn’t that much (though he uses a lot of other sources you might recognize like Empire of Dreams). Lucas will occasionally say the modern fabricated BS in the commentary, but not as much as one might suspect.

Downloading all three SW filmumentries now, thanks for the advice guys 😃 Might have to watch the Raiders one too!

Shame the commentary for (ROTJ) isn’t too flash!
I think I’ll have to check out the AOTC and ROTS DVD commentaries first - they’re the films I know least about…

(slightly) OFF TOPIC: Thinking about SW commentaries got me YouTube searching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPhwsnU1fxQ . Worth a watch, rather amusing…

I know you can’t post links, but can anyone point me in the direction of SW & ESB GRINDHOUSE Editions? I’m assuming RotJ is pending…?

Yes, it’s pending.

The other two are on myspleen and probably tehparadox. I’m pretty sure SW was on public trackers, too. If ESB was at one point, I would be surprised if the public has kept it seeded this long. Both are on usenet.

OK. Thanks. I’ll check Paradox. What are they exactly? Are they like the Tarantino film with missing frames and scratches etc?

What are the grindhouse editions? (I’ve never heard of this term before)

Grindhouse theaters were often of fairly low quality so these rough 35mm scans of ESB and ROTJ are titled ‘grindhouse’ versions due to their gritty, lower quality.

Someone correct me if my incredibly basic grindhouse cinema knowledge is wrong!

Ranking the Star Wars Soundtracks
Time

1 - ROTJ
Decent first half, highlight being the sail barge battle. Love the Ewok/Endor music thoughout the second half. The softer Rebel focused tracks scattered around the Battle of Endor are a nice change of pace. Plus ‘Light of the Force’, chills every time.

2 - ANH
The first half far outshines the second. From the opening till the departure from Tatooine is amazing. After that, it’s just solid thoughtout the Death Star sequences - until the final epic ‘Throne Room’ of course!

3 - ROTS
Wow. So damn epic, the perfect soundtrack to the dark, destructive fall of the Republic. Unashamedly big and brash. Seriously powerful. The choirs and vocal work that was so great in TPM makes an even better appearance here.

4 - TPM or ESB
I like more songs from TPM, Trade Federation theme, ‘Qui-Gon’s Noble End’, ‘Flag Parade’ ect. However it’s very hard to overlook killer tracks like Yoda’s theme, and the astroid music from ESB.

6 - AOTC
‘Across the Stars’ is the only standout from this soundtrack. Really NOTHING but ‘Across the Stars’ and ‘The Chase Through Coursant’ ever sticks in my mind. Sadly forgettable.

It’s really sad we don’t have ‘full length’ editions of the Prequal soundtracks. One of my favorite aspects of the Star Wars soundtracks is that I can listen to them and actually hear how the music progresses throughout the locations and events, it’s magical when while listening you can actually match exact moments from the films to their exact moment in the soundtrack.

thanks for all the work you have done all these years. im still on spleen downloading.
so the current final version are:
SW 2.5
ESB 2.0
ROTJ 2.5

it that right? when can we expect ESB 2.5 so every film have the same quality and improvement? and can anyone says what is a grindhouse version of a film? i never get that…

You’re correct on the version numbers.
Grindhouse theaters were often of fairly low quality so these rough 35mm scans of ESB and ROTJ are titled ‘grindhouse’ versions due to their gritty, lower quality.

just an off topic subject, does someone know where i can get all the deleted scenes from all 6 movies in 720p or 1080p quality? if anyone knows where to find or have in your personal collection, please share it with a pm.

Aren’t they included in the official Blu-ray collection?

from what i read in reviews of the blurays, some are exclusive to dvd boxset release in 2004 i think, but i was hoping someone could have all (included the dvd ones) in 1280x720 at least.
but if someone knows for sure that the bluray really contains all deleted scenes ever done, please alert me.

You’re right about the some deleted scenes being exclusive to DVD and others to blu-ray. Here’s quite a good compilation - not 100% sure it is all encompassing though!

Are you guys seeing the empty album there?

I can only see one image, the ROTJ Depecialised Edition ‘poster’. Should there be more?

Anyway - thank you so much for your hard work on this Harmy! Cannot wait to start watching it, especially keen for those newly scanned scenes…

EDIT: That album was only a tester. My bad.

OK, encoding is done on both the MKV and AVCHD versions. I’m probably gonna give them a watch tomorrow and then I should be all set for the Sunday release. 😃

I have another surprise release currently rendering that many people here will, I think, be very happy to see. 😃 Let’s see if you can guess what it is 😉 Clue: It’s the last one missing at this point.

ESB v2.5?

Edit: Dang, shouldn’t have jumped to reply before reading the last page. Also, in the NFO, what is the “Return of the Pug”?

Return of the Pug - Puggo’s 16mm transfer of ROTJ. Check it out here: http://www.hardbat.com/puggo/returnOfThePug.html

Yeah, I will definitely do some workprints for v3.0s - starting from scratch, there will be a large probability of errors.

We’ll see about v2.6 - if I did one, it would be just quickly splicing TN1’s shots in place of GOUT shots into the v2.5 lossless master and maybe fixing some of the more obvious color problems (it would probably end up looking somewhat like the Respecialized Edition).

Is working on a v2.6 really worth it? I’d much prefer to have 3.0 done a couple of weeks earlier than to have a SW v2.6! It almost seems irrelevant and a waste of your precious time Harmy!

Yeah, I decided to skip v2.0 for ROTJ, since the v2.0WP got a pretty wide release and v2.0 was supposed to be just the same as the WP only with a couple of fixes, but you’ll see this new version is much more than just that, so the next version, (which should be out late this week or early next week, I know I keep pushing it but it’ll be worth it, you’ll see, 😉 ) will be v2.5, followed soon by v2.5 of ESB, which will get all three movies on the same version and then I can focus on getting v3.0s done (v3.0 will be 1080p, so I’ll need to start pretty much from scratch on those).

Sounds fantastic. Looks like ROTJ 2.5 will come out just as I get some holidays - too good Harmy 😃
