Does anyone happen to have the Laserdisc(s) of Once Upon a Time in America?

It would be nice to see if the track on this disc could be synced to the recent (theatrical) BD.

However, from my understanding, the American Laserdisc is cut by 2mins, but I believe it is the best source available for an English mono track (or am I wrong?).

Duck, You Sucker! (1971) - Original Mono Repair. (Released)
Time

Here is a project that I’ve had laying on my hard drive for a while,

Duck, You Sucker! (1971) Original Mono Repair.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7b/DuckYouSuckerPoster.jpg/220px-DuckYouSuckerPoster.jpg

This project is an attempt to fix the audio stuttering/abnormalities that are present on the English mono track of Duck, You Sucker (Italian Blu Ray). These stutters are mostly evident during musical sequences, and in such cases, the Italian mono was used to fix them.

In addition, the final line of the film has been converted back to English by using the audio from the old Image Laserdisc. The audio will get a tad more “fuzzy” during this scene, but I believe it sounds natural due to an explosion having just gone off.

With the above being said, I believe I was able fix all of the major issues with English mono track. However, if you find an issue please let me know (along with some time stamps for it’s occurrence) and I’ll try and fix it.

Sources:

**English 2.0 DTSHD (mono) [Italian Blu Ray]: **The base of the project. It was converted to FLAC and used only the left channel.

**Italian 2.0 DTSHD (mono) [Italian Blu Ray]: **Used to repair certain clicking/distortions present in the English mono. Again, converted to FLAC and used only the left channel.

PCM 1.0 [Image Laserdisc]: Taken from a bit perfect rip at 44hz 16bit (Lil Brutto). It was subsequently converted to 48hz.

Final Source:

FLAC 1.0 16bit 48hz lossless

Special Thanks To:

TheHutt: For providing the English and Italian dtshd tracks

Lil Brutto: For providing the Image Laserdisc track.

NOTE: This must be synced to the Itialian Blu Ray.
With that being said, does anyone know anything about the quality of the new American Blu Ray?

PM me for a download link.
Though as of current, the work is very much a first draft, so I would appreciate some feedback.

Got it.

V1.5 is ready.

The change to the last line is a lot less jarring, but still noticeable, because of the hiss that accompanies the LD audio.

I was able to get a less jarring effect by using the entirety of the Laserdisc mono, starting with the "Johnny!" line, up to the "what about me" line. The old laserdisc's hissing sounds acceptable for this period of time, due to an explosion having just gone off.

I'm also currently trying to get rid of some of the audio distortion present in the Itailian Eng Mono, mostly in music oriented scenes. Maybe I'll post my work when I'm done. Depends on how it turns out in the end.

It is missing the further 18 minutes needed for the final cut that weren't incorporated because of issues with rights that are being worked on by the film foundation.

So instead of waiting till the final 18mins were in hand, they impatiently release a new cut that's in no man's land...

If nothing else, this is just creating more market confusion. Imagine when (if) the real director's cut get's released. How are they going to tell consumers that this is more of a director's cut then the one they already own?

Though whatever, que sera, sera.

Is the latest BD for OATIA really the 269min cut? As in, the real director's cut?

I ask this because I see the run-time for the BD as 251mins. Which makes me think it's missing 18mins from Leone's fabled complete 269min cut.
If it really is missing 18mins, I don't see how Warner Brothers can call this a Director's Cut when it wasn't an intended cut by the director...

I knew about the missing lines, though I was unaware of the missing audio cues in the Laserdisc.
I was under the impression that the DVD 5.1 was the only mix that had such issues?

EDIT: Also, just for clarification sake, the Laserdisc in questions is below.

Does anyone have this Japanese Laseridsc of My Neighbor the Totoro?

http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/161/

This is suppose to contain the best available version of the original streamline English dub. A dub that has been abandon ever since the Disney dub came out. Needless to say, I would love to sync this to the latest Blu Ray release :)

It is only in monaural and is on the second audio channel.

The best laserdisc source would be the much rarer US release which does not contain the Japanese soundtrack and is chopped to be in the 4:3 full frame format.

Honestly the best i have ever heard the track was on the Japanese region 2 dvd.  Yeah its not lossless but this is a dual monaural track anyway.  Not even sure if this was ever in true stereo.

I did not know there was US Laserdisc. Here it is on lddb,

http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/05818/4276-80/My-Neighbor-Totoro-%281988%29

As for being in mono, is that really an issue? As far as I know, there was never a true stereo release of this dub. All DVD's claiming to be in stereo are just dual monaural. This includes the official FOX DVD.
Something tells me this dub was never in real stereo so a lossless mono would be the best one could possibly get for this dub.

Well, if that's the case, then perhaps someone can do a lossless capture of the audio from this laserdisc: http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/07067/ML100872/Fistful-of-Dynamite-A-(1971)

I'm pretty sure I have lossless captures of both versions released on LD. I'll have to check and get back to you.

I too would be interested in this :)

I have both DYS discs and will happily help out with the mono. You need the earlier Image disc for the last line, and the new BD or some other source for the correct uncut flashback cue.

That sounds great! A capture of the audio on both of those discs would be amazing. TheHutt's English Mono from the Italian Blu-Ray could be used for the flashback cue I believe.

Unless I'm over looking something, this would be enough sources to effectively recreate the English mono for the complete cut of the film.

By chance, does anyone here have this LaserDisc for Duck, You Sucker! (AKA: A Fistful of Dynamite)?

http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/07067/ML100872/Fistful-of-Dynamite-A-%281971%29

Seeing as how this film's 5.1 remix is awful (which is pretty much here to stay I believe), a preservation of the mono on this disc should prove useful (despite being from a cut version of the film).
