Questions about the mono mix for the first film
Time

Short story version is, very few theaters had Dolby back then, and there were technincal problems with mono playback of a Dolby Stereo track, (now no longer the case) hence the need for a mono mix.

The 70mm mix was probably rushed a bit to meet the release date as well.

Lucas and company had no way to know if Dolby would be a short lived technological gimmick or not. Stereophonic sound in movies had never really caught on beyond the few huge venues equipped for it. Therefore, the mono mix was considered "definitive", and more time was taken with tweaking it.

Giorgio Moroder's Metropolis (Released)
Time

Neonbible, my avatar comes from a 1975 cover painting for Analog Science Fiction magazine.

It's been speculated that the artwork created for a short story in that issue influenced the design of Chewbacca and Wookiees in general.

I saw the original piece in a Science Fiction art book back in the 80's, and it only took me eighteen years to find out where it was originally from! ;)

I suspect I saw this cover in the 70's at some point. It certainly got into my subconscious somehow!

And to steer things back on topic, according to DVD Savant, a complete Metropolis print may have been found!

I admit I've not heard of a 9.5 mm film format before! Some forgotten competitor to 8mm?

Revenge of the Sith: Awful message
Time

Actually the "leak" occured on the Jedi set. Prowse once said in a Starlog interview that it was pretty unpleasant for him working on the film after that. He also denied being the source of the leak.

There was also an interview with one of the producers around the same time, (Howard Kazanjian?) who joked about someone unnamed that leaked phony script info given to them.

Since Prowse donned the Vader costume for that VCR board game Kenner once made in the 90's, I presume Lucas gave his blessing?

<strong>The Clone Wars</strong> (2008 animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

No discussion of tonight's episode?

Those commando droids are actually kind of menacing! For a kid's show, they're not shying away from onscreen deaths.

And I think we've heard someone curse in Star Wars for the first time since 1980. ;)

More nice little OT refs. I also liked little details like the girlie pinups on the wall in the control room.

And there was a reference to Splinter of the Mind's Eye!!!

Disney's The Black Hole (Complete Score Project) - Any Interest?
Time

I'm a fan of the film. Barry's score is one of the best things about it. I used to rent the old Disney Laserdisc often because the only store that had a copy wouldn't sell it to me! ;)

The overture was legitimately released in the 90's on a compilation CD of Sci-Fi movies scores put out by the SciFi Channel. It has always sounded great to me.

It's also present on the old Anchor Bay DVD (in 5.1) and the letterboxed VHS boxset. (Did Disney include it on their DVD version?)

A friend gave me MP3's of the vinyl and the Mask CD. The mask version sounds very good. There is also a disco version of the soundtrack done by none other than MECO!
