Disney Acquires LucasFilm for $4.05 billion, Episode 7 in 2015, 8 and 9 to Follow, New Film Every 2-3 Years
Time

Red Tails and Radioland Murders were two films George had been trying to get made for literally decades. I don't think he has any other such pet projects left on the boards.

There are a lot of Lucasfilm properties that can be mined for movies. Remember all the cool computer games they used to make?

MINOR SKYFALL SPOILERS AHEAD

Oh, and was it necessary to include Wolf Blitzer in a news scene? That kind of garbage takes me out of a movie. I don't need to see Wolf Blitzer's face to realize that it's a news broadcast on the television in that scene. That's another lame Hollywood trend - "If we put an actual news figure in that scene, people will think it's more real!"

Gah.

That trend has been going on since at least the 70's. Possibly as early as the 60's, but Los Angeles newscasters probably wouldn't be recognized outside California.

Didn't Kubrick use a real BBC guy interviewing Dave and Frank in 2001? I know the mission control guy wasn't an actor. Stanely wanted him to sound like the real deal...

I think you underestimate the powers of the Gungan.

Darth Maul is probably as recognisably Star Warsian as Boba Fett or Jabba.

We are old and jaded, we forget the impact TPM had in the day.

Perhaps, but the people putting up millions of dollars for a tv ad want a sure thing.

Would be interesting to see a reporter do one of those man in street things, where they show people a photo and ask them to identify the character.

One movie every 2-3 years? Try 2-3 movies produced EVERY YEAR.

Yeah but you have to remember Kathleen is not a Star Wars nut. She's a respected and legitimate producer. When they very first announced that George was stepping down back in June, Kathleen expressed then that she wanted to make movies. None of us assumed then that she meant Star Wars movies and likewise now, I doubt that's what she means here. I think we're going to start to see Lucasfilm branch out and become more diverse in their film catalog.

At the 10th anniversary con, George promised more Howard the Duck. And I'm still waiting. ;)

So lets build on the weak parts (to try & repair the Prequels).....that's the ticket for success.

Easterhay said: There are some fans who want to rewrite reality in the way that Lucas is accused of doing - ergo, "when people think of Star Wars they think of the OT".  Maybe some people, but by no means all.

Recently in the UK a leading electrical retailer (PC WORLD & Currys) spent a fortune on advertising, all their ads used OT characters (Vader's Shuttle landing in the customer car park, Chewie with a hair dryer etc), even though EP1-3D was due in cinemas.....the OT in peoples mind is Star Wars, & it sells.....it is the premium.....

The "Mini Me" Vader in what was last year's most popular Super Bowl commercial is a case in point. There isn't a single prequel character with that kind of worldwide instant identification.

They wouldn't have to spend story time on it. Luke and Leia probably investigated their family history prior to the events of the sequels.

Presuming Artoo has never had a memory flush, he's probably got a hologram of her in his memory somewhere.

Leia could have adopted Naboo as her home away from New Republic politics. (Or even live in Padme's apartment on Coruscant if it's still standing.) That and/or having Leia or Luke gaze solemnly at a portrait of Padme on the wall is enough.

Dear old Darth Dad is not something either Skywalker is going to want publicly known though. Especially if Leia has political enemies.

Please don't kill me... but I figured I'd throw this out there...

Jake Lloyd has been royally screwed by his performance in Star Wars Episode 1 - Generally due to awful, age inappropriate dialog ("Yippeeee!" anyone?)

Now that he is old enough, would Jake Lloyd be a decent contender as Luke's son or protege?

If the IMDB is anything to go by, Jake Lloyd hasn't appeared in anything since 2005, and even that was a film that apparently sat on the shelf for a few years. Didn't he retire from acting?

Info: James Bond - Laserdisc Preservations: 1962-1971
Time

Dual layer discs, with each version presumably taking up one layer. All had a trailer and a few light extras. All three came in the cardboard snapper cases.

I re-watched mine synced up to the Criterion commentaries recently. FRWL and Goldfinger held up pretty well on a modern tv. Dr. No had a noticeable bit of compression artifacts on ocean waves though.

TSWLM and Moonraker also came out in similar THX editions, but in regular DVD cases. Moonraker was the only genuine case of DVD rot I've ever had, so I was relieved the Connery discs still play.

Is a six year old laptop worth fixing?
Time

Oh no! I meant it was a hopeful sign I could run Windows 7. Microsoft only seems to have that upgrade check thingy for 8 now. Ran it on my Dad's old PC just for laughs. Not enough RAM. ;)

They are going to stop supporting XP in the near future?

On a related note, I am having trouble getting Fry's website to load on my new laptop. I tried it with the netbook and didn't have any trouble, so I don't think it's my ISP...

Mine has spent it's life on a nice quiet table, so no Levi's lint. ;)

^This fix seems to be holding and the fan is suddenly more quiet.  What triggered the problem in the first place, I have no idea.

The recovery option is there. If I roll it back to factory specs, won't I be stuck downloading every XP update and patch that's come down the pike? Had to spend a couple hours updating the old tower PC that had been sitting idle for several months. I don't even want to think how long six years of updates would take!

There's a "Windows Vista Compatible" sticker on the case. Maybe I could upgrade?
