Meteor explodes over Russia
Time

http://news.yahoo.com/meteor-explodes-over-russia-1-100-injured-175838744.html

I don't know about you guys, but this scares the crap out of me. And yet, it plays second fiddle to CNN's obsession with that cruise ship. Had this happened last year, the 2012 doomsday crowd would have gone even more insane than they did. Between this and Tunguska 1908, Russia can't get a break.

This is also the kind of event that could have been mistaken for a first strike nuclear attack not too many decades ago.

Didn't they have those "old" Imperial access codes, so the shield would be lowered? The moon must be shielded too, or else they could just slip in on the far side away from any traffic around the DS.

Other Imps like Tarkin seem to suffer from overconfidence. In the conference room scene from SW, there is debate how strong the Rebel forces really are just before Tarkin and Vader walk in.

Ozzel might have been foolish enough to think a big ass Super Stardestroyer, (which could have been a new vessel) popping up on the Rebel's doorstep would be enough to terrify them into not putting up much of a fight.

Have you met or seen someone from the Star Wars universe, and props?

I should find and scan my photos from "The Magic of Myth" at the National Air & Space Museum in DC, circa late 90s.

Of course that means remembering to take the photos over to my parents, as I don't have a scanner anymore. The only one I had was old enough that no Windows 7 64-bit drivers exist, so I threw it out.... but I can't seem to find scanners that aren't part of printers anymore, and my printer still works just fine.

Anyway, I should scan those.

I recently found myself in the same boat with my Dad's old scanner which I wanted to keep using as it's bigger than the one in my new printer. Either I keep WinXP on the old latop, or donate the sucker. Forced obsolescence sucks.

All my Star Wars pics from '87 were shot on 126 film, which the few places that still process film near me can't deal with.

If you're in the U.S., Fry's Electronics still sells standalone scanners.

Episode III: Revenge of the Ridiculousness

There has to be a way to incorporate this scene...

Ewan's and Natalie's reaction to Threepio falling over in the blooper reel might be useful.

The deleted scene with Grevious, where Obi Wan and Anakin exchange secret signals is potential comedy gold as well.

The condition of some of the original models seen on the Blu Ray supplements, has me wondering if they are simply becoming too old and fragile to go on tour anymore. Vader's TIE fighter was in excellent shape when it was seen on the 1993 Laserdisc extras, it looks like someone dropped it since then.

I hope Disney or Lucasfilm is thinking of a more permanent exhibition venue somewhere down the line.

I saw quite a few models and props at the 10th anniversary con. The Ark from Raiders was also there for some reason, and wise guys were taking turns lifting the lid. They should have rigged it to make noises or something. I doubt they would let anyone even touch such an iconic prop today.

Unfortunately, my camera flash malfunctioned, and the pics never came out right. (I ought to play with the negatives in the computer one of these days, and see if I can extract anything.) Alas, I wasn't able to stay long enough to get any autographs. (The hotel layout was a bit confusing which didn't help.) Someday I'll get my Chewie on Hoth photo signed!

There was a fellow in the dealer's room who had an amazing array of prop weapons for sale. (SW and Trek.) Some fellow looking over my shoulder jumped back when I pressed the power switch on a lightsaber. He must have thought it was actually going to do something. ;)

The Zombie Apocalypse is nigh!

Will be interesting to see if the perpetrators of this latest stunt make a clean getaway.

With the digital broadcast switchover, I wondered if someone could start up a little pirate tv station you'd need an older tv to watch.

I knew a guy in college who claimed to be slowly gathering everything needed for a pirate transmitter, but I don't know if he was actually serious about it. He certainly had enough semi obsolete video gear!

That question came up in the letters page of the Marvel comic, as they wore their original movie outfits for three years. ;)

If there's a bathroom on the Falcon, there must be a washing machine or some sort. Although since Leia only had one outfit, that must have been awkward.

Are you implying Wookiees smell bad?

that guy has some nerve,  he wants you to delete crap he posted?   And why are you giving him a week to get contact info from someone he supposed knows on this site?   Either he is banned or he isn't.    What difference does it make if he knows someone on this site?  But maybe I don't fully understand what is going here.

Don't look at me, I just work here. ;)

I think the week hinges on him not actually posting to the boards in the interim.

He contacted me last week. (With a new account that won't be around long.) The personal info him that was posted has been removed, but it's an awful lot of posts in a lot of threads he expects someone to wave a wand and erase.

Jay has given him about a week to get contact info from whoever he's friendly with on here. As of this posting, he hasn't opened up the PM I sent him yet about all this.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**

Unless it was a different event, Shatner had nothing but nice things to say...

Even though Shatner has had an axe to grind about not getting a bit in the 2009 film, I'd take the other article with a big grain of salt.

History has proven a small determined group of people can be a constant thorn in the side of a larger, more powerful foe. We never saw the entire rebel fleet until Return of the Jedi, so it's clear there was more than one base of operations.

A powerful WWII vessel could be sunk by a well timed torpedo or bomb drop, so the DS getting blown up isn't that much of a stretch.

Allowing the Death Star to track the Falcon was an attempt to lure the battlestation into a vulnerable situation, away from the rest of the Imperial fleet. (And bank on Tarkin's overconfidence.) The window of opportunity to exploit any weakness found in the plans wasn't going to be very long either way.
