By looking at the encoding settings (MediaInfo can do that) it is obvious that encoding speed has been a major goal, which comes as no surprise considering this is just a workprint. However, the settings could have been significantly optimised to achieve a better quality with less blocking and yet without a drastic slowdown. F.e. encoding with 1-pass constant bitrate as you did is much inferior to CRF mode quality-wise.

I haven't seen the preview but I'd just like to echo Jan's suggestion. CRF mode is designed specifically to be fast, efficient and high quality. If you're not aware of it, basically you set a quality level, with lower numbers being better, and CRF determines the lowest bitrate that can achieve that quality. Talking heads? Low bitrate. Explosions in the middle of a hurricane? High bitrate. It happens automatically and quickly, with only one pass. I've had great luck with it.

Keep up the great work! :)

In case anyone is interested, I watched T2 last night and thoroughly enjoyed it! For a 24-year-old film it holds up remarkably well. The BD-DL —XL was a typo :P —I burned worked perfectly. My family had no clue that the disc was "home made;" the professionalism was that good. I watched it on my PS3 and got a real kick out of the T2 poster icon in the XMB. Great touch!

The soundtrack was awesome, as I hoped, full and punchy. My receiver technically used Dolby's new Dolby Surround Upmixer, which is essentially an enhanced Dolby Pro Logic IIz/IIx. The receiver uses this when it doesn't have a true Atmos signal, but it did enable my height speakers to get in on the action and really fill the room.

Anyway, this is now my go-to version of T2. As soon as I print a BD box insert, it'll take its place on my shelf. Consider me impressed. :)

If I may, I'd like to bring this topic back on topic. :) While everyone has a right to express themselves, and to disagree at times, the reason that I joined Original Trilogy, is because everyone here loves film. We're passionate, and that's a good thing, but I think it's time to return to the discussion of Team Blu's work. :)

On that note, I'm happy to say that the BD XL discs I ordered have arrived and I'm one giant step closer to watching Team Blu's Terminator 2! I can't wait! I also just upgraded my receiver to a nice new Denon with Dolby Atmos. I can't wait to hear the CDS theatrical soundtrack in Atmos. :) A great film from my childhood finally married with great audio and video.

So, a big, hearty "thank you!" to Dark Jedi, You Too and the rest of Team Blu. Your work really is pro-level. I can't wait to see what you guys come up with next. In the meantime, "hasta la vista, baby!" :)

ESB Obi Wan scene
Time

Also, Obi-Wan doesn't say that he won't help Luke, but that he can't. In other words, Obi-Wan is now only a ghost and not able to directly affect the living world. Obi-Wan really stresses that Luke will be alone in his fight against Vader—alone and untrained. Yoda looks shocked when Luke thinks a moment and says, "I understand."

A minor point, but an interesting one. :)

Help: looking for... where I can find old wcbs-2 news broadcasts?
Time

Hi Danfun128,

While I'm afraid I don't have any leads for you, I do have a few suggestions:

First, do you know the name of the hospital in question? They might have a P.R. person who would have saved the info.

Second, there are a couple of companies that handle hospital security. Since the event in question was news-worthy, someone at one of those companies may remember and have a lead.

Third, I know you want a particular newscast, but is it possible that a newspaper article may have the same information?

Finally, I'd try the TV station's Facebook and/or Twitter account. That might be a faster way to get a reply. Failing that, if you live near the station, you could try going there and talk to someone. (I don't know how far they'll let you in, but it'd be worth a shot, especially if they know how much it means to you.)

I really hope this is at least somewhat helpful and that ultimately you find whatever you're looking for. Best of luck! :)

The SW Saga of 1975: ATM's Take
Time

While I'm no authority on Lucas by any means, I have all three Rinzler Making of books and I'm afraid I don't recognize most of your content. What sources did you use? Your graphic descriptions of ritualized mutilation and torture simply don't gel with anything I've heard or read about George Lucas' writing. (Temple of Doom was about the darkest thing he produced and that's miles more genteel than what you've written.)

Star Wars came out of, among other things, George's childhood love for old serials, which were rebroadcast in TV's earliest days as compiled episodes. He felt that kids in the 70s were growing up without heroes. Films were too dark, too violent.

I guess I'm asking, is this a thread based on researched fact, or is it Star Wars inspired fan fiction?

You've obviously put quite a bit of effort into this thread, and I'm simply trying to understand your intentions. :)

I've said this before, but since I have nothing to offer this project besides cheer leading, I'll do some more of that..

I'm in the same boat, so I'll join you in the cheer.

"GIVE ME AN M!" "M!"

"GIVE ME A V!" "V!"

"GIVE ME AN E!" "E!"

"GIVE ME AN R!" "R!"

"GIVE ME A T!" "T!"

"GIVE ME AN A!" "A!"

The explosion looks way better without the CGI ring, and I love how you brought out every distinct ember. Great video, as always.  :)

Do you have a link to one of those type drives? and he is not out of the woods yet, but things are definitely now finally going in the right direction.

Sure thing. I picked up mine at Amazon: http://amzn.to/1yTaTTk . Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try and answer them.

And I'm glad to hear there is some good news regarding your son. Best of luck to him. :)

edit: No problem.

Hi Dark_Jedi, Have you considered a WD My Cloud Mirror? It's definitely more expensive, but the benefit is that every file is automatically copied to two drives (via a mirrored RAID). If one drive ever fails, you can recover all of your data from the second drive. The backups all happen automatically and it will give you email warnings in advance if a failure is likely. It's also a DLNA media server.

Beyond the cost, the other issue is that if you do use it in mirrored RAID mode, a 4TB setup becomes only 2TB of usable data. For me, the extra peace of mind was worth the trade offs , but it's definitely something to consider. I like mine a lot.

I hope your son is feeling better. :)

I'm still trying to produce my own Blu-ray using Adobe's Encore, and I'm running into a new problem. I re-encoded the video (raising the bitrate slightly to prevent introducing new compression artifacts while setting the profile to "Main") into something Encore will accept, but now it's rejecting the DTS-HD MA audio tracks. Is anyone else using Encore and having some success?

What version of Encore are you using? DTS HD audio is listed as a new feature in CS6, so if you have an older edition that's the problem. If you are using CS6, I'd check Adobe's site; hopefully it's something simple.

Sorry for the slight thread derail! :)

Team Negative1 - The Empire Strikes Back 1980 - 35mm Theatrical Version (Released)
Time

Just a wild guess, as you said "1,2,3 of ?" as well as the date, which is 14. I'm going to say that 1+4 =5 meaning Empire Strikes Back, Episode 5. My hope and guess is that you're releasing a rough version of Empire as the cool Christmas item you teased. Either that, or the numbers are Leia's space measurements from her gold bikini and you have unearthed new footage of her. Either would please me! :D

If I'm right, do I win a free BD copy of your work? Hint, hint! :)

I showed ESB to my daughters for the first time yesterday. They'd seen Star Wars but I'm spacing the rest out so the big one can see The Force Awakens in the theaters. Here's the moment when Yoda appears:

Wow, she looks a lot like my niece! Always good to see a new fan in the making. :) Did any scenes scare her? My niece hasn't seen any Star Wars films yet, so I'm especially curious how Darth Vader and the Emperor hologram went over.

hairy_hen, any chance you have the 1980 5.1 DTS-HD-MA track without the high levels of bass?  I have a fairly serious home theater setup, and this audio is just too intense for me.  It would be great to have this audio track, but with bass levels that are similar to other films.  Thanks!

The only thing I’d add to Hairy_hen’s excellent audio calibration info, is that most modern AVRs have something like Audyssey, which is an auto room/speaker calibration mode that uses a microphone supplied with your receiver. While using an SPL meter is superior, Audyssey is really quite good and very easy to use.  Check your receiver/pre-pros manual for info.

Sorry to derail the thread, Harmy! :)

Other scenes, have a blue, or red tint to them. I doubt the original looked

like this when projected, or else we've been seeing a very different looking

film than this one.

Great news on the print! Is it possible to see video of some of the scenes with the blue/red tints? The underlined statement has me very intrigued!

Thanks for that. I found it yesterday and grabbed it between last night and this morning. Now I'm trying to find a program that's screenreader friendly that will extract the various audios.

No problem. If you can't find any screenreader compatible demuxers, be sure to holler. I'll try to help you. :)

It appears that all flac links in this thread are gone. Would anyone please be willing to upload any of the various flac lossless audios that have been provided throughout this thread? That would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Have you looked into Harmy's Despecialized Edition 2.5? While the audio isn't FLAC per se, the 70mm 5.1, 35mm Stereo, and 35mm Mono tracks are all lossless DTS-HD Master Audio. They sound great and should give you the experience you're looking for. Hairy_Hen outdid himself, as always. Hope this helps!

Remuxing didn't work and it doesn't play in Quicktime, but that it isn't an issue since it mainly needs to go into after effects. I did try using Handbrake but I didn't want to lose quality, but I will try using your settings thanks.

Sorry to hear that. Have you tried downloading Perian? It's basically a swiss army knife Quicktime plugin that plays a LOT of audio/video formats. Unfortunately, it's no longer updated, but I've had good luck with it over the years.

I had another idea, which is to convert the footage into Apple's ProRes using Hybrid or another program. ProRes is practically lossless, but with much smaller file sizes. It's also designed to work well with editing software, unlike h.264 which is really more of a delivery format (i.e. good for watching). The only issue is that the ProRes files will be much bigger than x264. But I think it's worth it.

Sorry I didn't tell you about ProRes before. It totally slipped my mind. :(

Anyways, I hope this helps. :)

I'm having trouble importing avi footage into after effects. I've tried using Mpeg Streamclip to convert it but it just shows black is there any way to import this I use a Mac. The Avi footage is the main deleted scenes ripped from the blu-rays.

I need some help.

Does the footage play in QuickTime? Usually if it doesn't, then you're missing a QuickTime plugin. I'd check that out first.

Have you tried remuxing the footage into another container? That might solve the problem. Sometimes it's something as silly as that.

If all else fails, I'd try re-encoding using Hybrid or Handbrake. You'll lose quality, as it is lossy, but if you use x264 and CRF 18 or 16, the footage will still hold up really well.

Hope this helps. :)
