The Vaultbreakers Collection - Disney Preservations
Time

Really sorry to bump an old thread, but searching the Index I couldn’t see one more relevant and I don’t feel it warrants its own.

I recently bought a small lot of bootleg VCDs off of eBay (there was an Ewoks one in there, sue me), and included in the lot was A Bug’s Life. Disney/Pixar I know, but like I said I felt a new thread was unnecessary.

The files on the disc are dated 29/11/1998 - Four days before its theatrical release.
It is obviously filmed on a camcorder and both the audio and video are quite clean all things considered.

Other than the VCD I purchased the lot for, A Bug’s Life is the only one that’s still playable and hasn’t degraded past the point of use. I fear it’s on its way out very soon so I’m going to rip the files to my computer for the sake of preservation, but I was wondering if anybody would be interested in this?

I’m not sure how wanted or useful a CAM of this particular film would be as it isn’t really my area, but everyone has their own niche and stuff like this isn’t exactly common. If it’s of use to somebody then I feel it’s worth mentioning.

Let me know if there’s any interest.

Caps from Disc 1 and 2 (in order):

(I also have Antz and Jim Henson’s “Buddy” I’m attempting to salvage, but not sure how they’ll go).

Rio is a man.

He’s a male, but not a man.

Look I feel we’re getting too far into semantics with that one 😉

It’s just as important to have disposable female characters who only exist to advance the plot as it is to have important female characters who drive the story. Just like male characters.

Equality means equality, not just making all the females the best characters ever and all the males disposable simpletons.

Solo was a great example of gender, race, etc., not even being an issue in regards to the story. The most important thing is that the character is good or important; if that character happens to be female, whatever, it doesn’t matter. Just make the character good.

Honestly the fact that this is even a discussion in the Star Wars fanbase astonishes me.
Leia is one of the most recognisable characters in cinema history, as is Lando; both of which are amazing characters who serve an important purpose.
Go further forward and you have Padme, literal Queen of an entire planet and an extremely strong politician who’s integral to the story arc of an entire trilogy.
Or, y’know, Mace Windu - Second only to f*ing Yoda.

Race and gender have never been an issue in Star Wars, ever. Why we’re suddenly pretending it is is silly.

Maybe a case can be made for A New Hope, but that’s one movie made in 1977 out of a 40 year history.

Oh, okay.

Don’t get why them being women is relevant at all though.

It’s relevant to the history of the trope, as it’s typically women dying to advance the man plot/character arc. Val died so Woody could… punch Han I guess? And L3 died so they could cannibalize her for parts.

And plenty of men die in the film to advance the plot and character arcs as well?

Hell, Dryden - the main villain - (a man) dies to advance the character arc of Qi’ra (a woman).
You’re also forgetting that Rio died in the very same scene as Val. Rio is a man.
What are you even on about?

It’s not a gender issue at all, there’s no need to make it one.

This movie was fantastic and I’m going to do my best to ignore some of the posts in here because if I thought like some of these posts think I’d live in a much less fun and much more dull world.

8/10 for now, hard to fully rate the day after with just one viewing. The stakes are also very low so it’s hard to rate in context of every other SW film, which all have much higher stakes.

The only thing I’d change is Maul, which is extraordinarily stupid. There are tons of people who only watch the movies, so I’m sure they’re either thinking “who the hell is that?” or “why is the dead sith from TPM not dead?” And I haven’t seen any CW episodes past the first season, so although I know he’s not dead, it’s just from a few comments here and I have no idea how he survived…nor do I care. It’s dumb.

Luckily it seems it would be super easy to cut him out of the film. You can keep the dialogue and the initial shot of him, just cut out the close up where he reveals himself. So she’s just working for someone mysterious, and not the bad guy from TPM that is dead in my canon.

Of course that’s not going to work if they make the sequel I want, dammit.

One other thing, my wife pointed out that they should have let Woody live, show him going to Tatooine, and start a Cantina. And I love this idea. In ANH Han throws him some credits and apologizes for the mess. 😃

Oh wow I completely agree! -

And one other other thing, Kathleen is one of the best things to ever happen to Star Wars.

Oh wait :’)

Glad you liked the film though, I thought it was a blast from start to finish. A couple of niggles but I honestly didn’t expect to have that much fun.

The Cantina idea would have been fun and fit with his character too, haha.

Star Wars I - VIII Matching DVD covers?

I didn’t see any DVD sets

Probably because most of us have BDs. Honestly not trying to be rude, Blu Ray just eclipsed DVD a long time ago so most people don’t bother anymore with custom DVD art.

No, I get what you’re saying. Star Wars is the only property that I still care about DVDs (With the exception of the random film/doc that I care about that somehow only released on DVD), and there are family members who love Star Wars but only have DVD, so it still makes sense to have it. Not to mention it’s just nice to be able to complete the set I’ve been working on since 2001.

So yes, I’m fully aware that DVD is not as popular, and yes Blu ray and now 4K have surpassed it. Doesn’t mean I just throw out movies. Not trying to be rude either.

Oh no I completely get that. I’m a pretty big collector of Star Wars home media so I share your frustration with not having matching DVD covers, was just trying to shed some light on why you won’t find many custom DVD art

Wait, you guys REALLY liked the droid? Am I the only one who was glad when she was finally destroyed?

(L3 is the best SW character since Jar Jar Binks)

I’ll go so far as to say she’s even more insufferable than Jar Jar Binks.
At least it was clear Jar Jar was intended to be an obnoxious tool.

Thankfully she wasn’t in it long, and I liked 90% of the rest of the film.

Where has George ever said that was the intent for the character?

I more meant the intent was to make Jar Jar an obnoxious clown, because George thought he’d be funny.

The execution was off but I don’t think it’s too up for debate that Jar Jar was never meant to be a Representative in the Senat- Oh wait 😉

SOLO: A Star Wars Story - Fan Edit Ideas Thread

Then I have no idea why he looked so bad.

Right?

It looked like melted cheese made a baby with a terrible CGI render from Star Wars: Rebels, I have no idea what the hell happened there. It looked atrocious.

I really liked Solo but the cameo was so forced and just plain bad on a cinematic level. The majority of the audience only watches the films, and yet they’re going to chuck in a character that, as far as most people are concerned, died 20 years ago, without explanation? And make him look like that?

Nobody is allowed to complain about fan service in any other Star Wars film thus far after this absolute travesty of 60 seconds of film reel.

I saw the film a few days ago but forgot to share my thoughts.

I’m in the camp that hated TLJ with a passion.

As soon as Solo was announced I wanted nothing to do with it, and after TLJ I was even more adamant that I was done with Star Wars in its current form. It was going to be the first Star Wars film in almost 20 years I didn’t go to the midnight screening of.

But then a very well meaning friend decided to surprise me with midnight tickets as I was going through some personal stuff and they were trying to cheer me up, so I figured what the hell, may as well give it a crack.

I’m extremely happy I didn’t boycott it after all as I thought it was very very good.

There are definite problems with the film; some pacing issues and a certain character that my theatre actually cheered at when they died, but overall I had a lot of fun and really dug the story, world-building and character development.

I don’t think I’ve had that much innocent fun at the cinema in years. I think Rogue One is the better film without a doubt, but it’s certainly not as fun as Solo.

I’m now on record as really liking Rogue One and Solo, but hating TFA and TLJ, so I guess I’m sticking with the anthology films from hereon-out, haha.

I hope it’s clear that I feel this way about any subject. It’s weird to have a thread where you are not allowed to criticize the topic.

I’m on record as having really enjoyed TLJ so it has nothing to do with that at all.

Oh I know that. There are controversial Star Wars films I like but I still wouldn’t want an echo chamber to develop about them. My opinion is if you can’t acknowledge or discuss criticism then you must not be very comfortable with your position to begin with.

But anyway I don’t want to derail the thread or anything, so that’s neither here nor there.

Hamill’s performance was spectacular. It’s actually quite upsetting for me because there are things I adore about TLJ (mainly some of the acting and visuals), but it’s just the story and characterisation that completely ruins it for me to the point I can’t even sit through it anymore.

Hopefully one day I’ll be able to watch it properly again because I don’t think it’s a terrible film, just not the kind of film I wanted in the Star Wars universe. That’s just my opinion anyway.
