Ok, I thought that would be the case. You're right of course, you tend to be overly critical when you know what flaws to look for, as a complete film experience these versions you make will certainly be fantastic for most viewers, don't let my comments dampen your spirit, I'm just a stubborn purist. What you're able to achieve here is quite awesome.

I've watched Harmy's ESB close to 20 times in the last couple of weeks, and if you're not satisfied with that masterpiece, you're not going to be satisfied with anything short of perfection (which we'll never see). We've all waited nearly forever for the Original Trilogy, and now thanks to Harmy, we'll have it. Harmy's cuts are so damn good, I think they're the first versions that are above nitpicking. They're so beautiful I'm not going to waste my time searching for flaws.

Can't wait for you to complete ANH Harmy. Your ESB is the definitive version hands down. I know you had mentioned that there were a couple of explosions etc. that didn't match the theatrical release, but I watched the thing all the way through and I didn't notice anything. The picture quality is unreal, and the whole thing appears seamless to me. Your ESB makes all other versions seem really gay by comparison, I'm sure the same will be true for ANH and Jedi.

Just finished watching Empire. This thing is HOT. It's Magnum P.I. in short shorts. dark_jedi is the Wiz and noooobody beats him. Since I don't have an image of the real dark_jedi to worship, I hung my 12" single of "The Family Ghost" in my atrium and trimmed it with candles. I considered a sconce but that's so ten years ago.

I just finished watching ANH on my HX800 55 inch. It's beautiful dark_jedi, just beautiful. I don't know how the hell you accomplished this. It's amazing. Thank you man, it's gorgeous. I'm in awe.  This marks the greatest day in OT history. You've got tiger blood dark_jedi. I'm gonna put on a diaper in preparation for Empire. You're the man dark_jedi, your Zues, you're Hercules, you're Elvis etc.

If you asked me what was the best hair product or Judy Garland biography, I wouldn't be all "Why don't you just Google it." I would be all "Tresemme Volumizing Mousse and Judy Garland World's Greatest Entertainer."

Information you probably got by Googling it.  BTW, does mousse work on pug fur?

No, it doesn't, and don't make me slap you. I am using Bitoorent but I show no seeders and no peers even though I know that they're there. Am I doing something wrong on my end?

It might help to Google up "torrents."

In the time that it took you to dork shame me, you could have easily answered my two extremely simple questions. I know what a torrent is, I am unfamiliar with Myspleen specifically. Dork shaming is so gay. If you asked me what was the best hair product or Judy Garland biography, I wouldn't be all "Why don't you just Google it." I would be all "Tresemme Volumizing Mousse and Judy Garland World's Greatest Entertainer."

I was just turned on to this project when in was metioned in another thread, and man am I excited. I have a hard time sorting out all of the presevation efforts, but from what I read in tis thread, this seems to be the most highly respected and promising treatment of the GOUT. I am glad to have something Star Wars related to be excited about again. I'm telling everyone at the gay bar about this tonight, dark_jedi rules.

Well, the aliasing and DVNR are inherent to the laserdisc master so it will always be there no matter what. I honestly can't imagine any laserdisc capture being better than the GOUT, based on the fact that the GOUT is encoded from the same master as the LDs, so it's the same (2nd) generation copy of the master as the LDs but made using newer technology. Any LD capture will be a 3rd generation copy. But I'd be happy to be proved wrong on that.

Couldn't it make quite a difference being that it will be 16X9? The GOUT is letterboxed and unless you want to watch it fully framed with a foot of black on all sides, you have to use the wide zoom setting on the tv which makes it look extremely fuzzy. I'm hoping that letterboxed vs 16x9 will make a big difference, but maybe I'm just being queer about it. I better not be too queer though, it seems that Molly is a homophobe. That usually means that someone is gay themselves, or at least does quite a bit of scissoring.

Looks like I'm gonna have to renew my newsgroup subscription :)  Thanks, Zion!  I'm really looking forward to taking a crack at these.  Should make for a fantastic break from my other projects :)

You're the man. Now I'm warning you, if you succeed in getting these things onto a BD, I'm probably going to fall in love with you. That's cool though because I live in New Hampshire we have gay marraige here...I'm getting WAY ahead of myself right now but you have to admit it sounds pretty sweet. You and I, watching these discs on my big screen TV and sipping white wine. This is all happening so fast.

So the upload is the raw capture of the XØ?  Something like 40gb?

Are these cleaned up at all, or completely raw?

What will be done with them (if anything)?

It's been many years we've waited just to have a decent transer of the LDs. Forget cleaning them up, it's a pipe dream. One of you homos needs to get your ass in gear and get these raw transfers to BD post haste. Lets keep our eyes on the prize cowboys. If you guys need any help with hair and makeup, interior decorating, or show tunes I'm here. Now we just need to find a willing member with the know how to get these things onto a BD and we'll be in business. I'm so excited right now I feel like Judy Garland when she she woke up in Oz and the whole screen went full color and all that shit. Focus guys, focus. We are nearing the coming of this project.

The upload has begun. I'll do the timecode print next.

[This thing says it's going to take 71 hours. Here's hoping my net connection doesn't cut out.]

Coooooooooooooooooool. Now we're really getting somewhere. The upload of the raw transfers marks an important day in Original Trilogy history. I'm gonna put on my best chaps and do a celebratory dance. Thanks for sticking with this Zion. Now one of you tech fags do whatever needs to be done to put this on BD before I slap you. I'm so excited, I'm all "Hello Frisco!" I can't believe that this project has risen again like a super fucking sexy Phoenix!

Can't someone just take what's existing now and burn it to BD's? I'd pay 15 bucks for a BD copy even if all the fine touches weren't all done, 15 for each one.

I couldn't agree more, that would be kick ass. Given that all we have to watch now is the shitty letterboxed bonus dvd discs, any improvement would be awesome. I would kill for a widescreen BD copy of these transfers, they would destroy those bonus discs. Those bonus discs are so gay.

Your vinyl record collections
Time

Way to many to list, I'm a vinyl junky. Lately I been playing Howlin' Wolf "Moanin' In the  Moonlight" and Stephen Stills "Just Roll Tape" alot. They sound so damn good now that I have a decent rig. I'm running a Rega P3 with a Herbie's Way Excellent II mat and a Audio Technica OC9 MKII cartridge. I couldn't live without my old ipod video at work or in the car, but at home I play pretty much only vinyl.

Slowly dying? Ran out of ideas? The last several seasons have been absolutely brilliant! People didn't stop talking about the recent episode where Cartman get's a Glenn Beck style conservative talk show for weeks. Ever been to a bar on a Wednesday night? If there is a new episode of South Park on that night, more likely than not they'll be playing it.

It certainly isn't slowly dying, I think it actually gets better every year. Matt Stone and Trey Park do a great job of keeping each new episode relevant to current events. Every now and then there is an off episode, but just as often they hit the mark.

So right. I dare anyone to watch the episode with the motorcycle fags without laughing out loud.

To my ears, the best audio I've heard is newly pressed vinyl produced from analog master tapes. The DVD-Audio recordings I've heard come a close second.

I can't hear a difference between AAC files I've encoded with iTunes and the original CD recording, but I do think DVD-Audio sounds significantly better than CD, and good vinyl sounds even better than DVD-Audio.

The only people who would argue with that, and there is and endless supply of them, are people who have never listened to newly pressed audiophile vinyl mastered from the original master tapes on the proper equipment. It doesn't take an insane setup, just the right $300.00 amplifier, $200.00 phono amp, $300.00 needle, decent turntable, and decent speakers. Once you've heard such a record on such a system, there is no doubt, it's just better. I can't tell the difference between any good digital formats, but I can certainly tell digital from analog. It's a world of difference. It's sad really that so many people who are music freaks don't even give the superior format a chance. Those that do are always hooked. No matter how good a sample gets, it can't be an analog.

@ Rob ("As far as masters go, only an idiot records in digital.")

I guess then that 95% of the recording industry is composed of idiots then...

In this day and age, everything is recorded and mixed digitally.

That's correct, they're idiots. That's why a modern CD or mp3 translated into a WAV looks like a solid block instead of a nice dynamic set of peaks and valleys. They don't care AT ALL about sound quality or producing the best master or preserving the music. Those days are long gone.
