In my opinion it was done right in the Italian release. It looks fantastic. This new one is truly horrible and I hope all fans of this film will simply boycott it.

As soon as I found out about the missing original mono track, I cancelled my pre-order. I already have the Italian BD synced up with English audio, so that is that, as they say.

Hope this time it will be OK... (^^,) - latest version updated in the first post.

About "The Thing": you MUST get it! OR, if you have patience, you could always wait for V.2 - don't know when I will do it, but it will be done for sure... sooner or later...

That looks great to me, Andrea. Good work :)

If you have an improved version of The Thing coming, then count me in for that!

I have the HD-DVD (both original and my own HD->Blu-Ray conversion) to tide me over until you get V.2 out.

To be honest, I looked at the screenshot comparisons, and thought it was a little under-saturated, but that's probably because I'm used to the HD-DVD and DVD. I have no idea how this looked theatrically, so I have no frame of reference. But really looking forward to it especially since it has the original audio in glorious PCM.

Come to think of it, a under-saturated look really should fit the film, since the film is so bleak and nihilistic. And of course, things tend to look different on a calibrated TV rather than my PC monitor, which has limited calibration settings.

The Thing is definitely worth getting… the colors are better than anything else out there right now and the audio options can't be beat (I am a sucker for the original laserdisc PCM, it sounds fantastic in surround). I had some trouble writing it to disc (it always glitches during the helicopter scene — it may have been an error that occurred when I downloaded it because I've tried it on both my Mac and my PC), so I am very eager for V.2.

I believe the commentary from the 2007 version is the one that was recorded for the Criterion laserdisc, with John Carpenter, Debra Hill and Jamie Lee Curtis commenting separately.

It seems that a lot of people love Andrea's version of The Thing. I'm getting excited just thinking about the audio options on it. I can confirm if the 2007 BD commentary and Criterion are the same once I get the Halloween project downloaded, as I have the 2007 track here.

The thing is, this (for me) is like playing music. I've played for 20 years, but still can't read a music sheet to save my life. I don't know the correct terms/names for the errors I see, I just see what I register as errors, and rewrite it. So I can't actually generally tell if your grammar is wrong or if it's just the phrasing. Some things I believe are grammar errors, like a missing "the" and so on (I'll get to that).

"the commentary and isolated score that are present onto (should be on) the analog laserdisc tracks are  a  very appreciated addition" and "the five subtitles tracks" near the bottom (remove the last "s" from subtitles).

I think that's it, really.

Really getting excited for this now, knowing that I've actually contributed to it! :) Was thinking about getting your version of The Thing as well.

I wouldn't expect a non-native English speaker to have perfect grammar, mine isn't either since I'm also not a native English speaker, so that is perfectly understandable. For all I know, someone may see errors in my writing (feel free to correct me if so), but I'll try the best I can.

This line, as an example -

"Infact, the best colors of the movie could be found only into the acclaimed 1999 THX DVD, while the theatrical mono soundtrack best version could be found into laserdisc". I would have written it like this - "In fact, the best colour grading for the movie can be found only on the acclaimed THX DVD from 1999, while the best version of the theatrical mono soundtrack can only be found on Laserdisc".

This line - "In this [spoRv] edition, the 1999 THX DVD video is used to color regrading the 35th anniversary Blu-Ray", I would have written like this - "In this [spoRv] edition, the 35th Anniversary Blu-ray was colour regraded using the 1999 THX DVD as reference". Other than that, I see that the [spoRv] description lacks a "the" here and there, as well as an "a" here and there, like "Criterion collection laserdisc is used as the main soundtrack".

Please let me know if you need help with this,  I would be happy to help, if no native English speakers (or anyone better in English than myself) can. And I'm sorry if I seem like the grammar police, as it's not my intention. This is meant purely as a constructive thing (and to make the words "roll off the tongue" better), to help make this great project better.

If you prefer more detailed a/v specs, then that's fine by me. This is your project, after all. :)

And yes, MultiAVCHD. CAN NOT get it to work at all. :(

Regarding commentary tracks - is the Criterion track the same as the 2007 BD? The 2007 BD and the 35th have different commentaries, Carpenter kind of sounds younger in the 2007 one.

Looked at the cover, here are my thoughts.

There are some small grammar error here and there in the description on the left side, and some areas, like the Video/Audio specs seem a little "overfilled" to me. The lines could be shorter, if it's worded differently. As an example - instead of having "AVC encoded 30mbps" it could have "AVC 30mbps". This is more a preference thing I guess, as some may like it more detailed.

Other than that, I really like the comparison shots, and the informative description. The front cover is as classic as they come, I would be surprised if any other artwork was used there. I think you did good. :)

I wish I could also find free BD authoring w/ menus that actually work on my pc. I tried AVCHD, but it always crashes, or never finishes the job. TSMuxer and EasyBD work a treat (most often I use EasyBD, depending on the files I have).
