Info Wanted: What other LDs are you all transferring?
Time
I've gota great bootleg of TPM from the LD. I paid $58 for it on eBay back when it was first released. A little soft in the pictre area, but still really nice. I'd like to see a new transfer though myslef. Too bad TPM LDs go for $100+ now. I agree, there a lot of LDs that could use a transfer to DVD. The Frighteners DC comes to mind. The current bootleg floating around is crap. DD 2.0 only, no commentary, and it went from LD to VHS to PAL VHS to DVD. Ugh. Luckily I got it for free.

Please keep the debates civil (RE: personal attacks and forum moderation)

Speaking of jimbo, Jay, you might want to read the intollerance he's been posting against R2 in the "Lack of PT humanity" thread. Not to be a whistle blower, but I find myself offended, and I'm not even gay and its not directed towards me in any way. It's just rude and harrassing and wrong. I think after all I've seen (and thats only been about 2 months worth), it just seems like jimbo has gone way too far. You need to have a word with this guy or send him packing.

Idea: Sound mix options? Where?!
Time
Well, I can look into offering the use of my brothers old Fox LD's of SW (and ESB, if that turns out to have been altered as well.) I am fairly certain he owns the multidisc un-time compressed version. I think that doing the 1993/5 LD PCM, DD 2.0 commentary (Def version of course), DD 2.0 old mix, and DD 2.0 score only (courtesy of ISOMIX) would make the coolest DVD. Now if only we could combine it with Mike's new restored video. Hot damn!! What a kick in the pants for the official DVD that would be, huh?

Using the '04 SE DVD version to restore the Original (with lots of info)
Time
Ok, its come down to hardcore nitpicking. In order to be completely faithful to the era, you must use the Alien3 logo for ROTJ. If you look closely at the cropping on the logo, you'll see how they match. Another, more complicated way, would be to take the JPEGs into Photoshop, and matte them overeachother at 50% opacity. Whichever one lines up perfectly is the one to use. If you want the logo for SW and ESB, start Googleing for Fox's caatalog between 1976 and 1981, then trim it down to the flicks shot in 2.35:1 scope. Its all simple logic and deductive reasoning, people. Anyone wanna join me in the hunt for the logo? I can hit up my local rntal stores and my wifes place of business (used DVD-VHS shop) and try to find movies that fit the era/aspect ratio.

You know what everyone is skipping out on? Alternate audio! Instead of doing a DD 2.0 of the standard LD audio, use that space to drop in a DD 2.0 encode of the old 1985 LD soundmix. That way, you could hear how Ben Burtt changed it from the original theatrical stereo mix to what eventually made it to the 1993/95 LDs. You can get a full uncompressed stereo track off any old Fox video “Special Widescreen Edition” LD’s. I think that would be space well spent. Hell, if youre doing DL discs, you might even be able to squeeze it on there as PCM! Now wouldn’t that just be the coolest?

Idea: About De-SEizing the DVDs... We need to Vote on Changes!

I personally am against re-editing the 04 versions. After seeing the "color correction" done to it, I feel the whole film has been blighted, and not worth the effort. Stuff has been digitally painted all over, to add more richness and color to it. None of you has taken that aspect of the "remaster" into account. Im 100% against the re edit. I'll wait to see what MeBeJedi comes out with.

THX-1138 on DVD, please...

Yeah, I'm on a real shoesting budget ATM. My wifes car needs considerable work done, and I just got shafted by the local salvage yard, cos they waited til they had like half dozen chacks from me (totalling about $300) before they decided to deposit them all. All at once. The bastards. So I'm paying overdraft charges on checks I wrote like a month ago. And I still have all my other standard bills to pay. I'll let you know as soon as I can swing copies. Oh, BTW, how did you grab the LPCM from your Star Wars set? Did you just jack in line level from your player to your PC? I'm working on a DIY mod on my LD player to get AC3 out and I was curious about your adventures in LD audio capture. Cheers!
