Return of the Jedi - Remastered (Released)
Time

I’ve just finished your edit and many of your cuts are seamless, especially when Lando and Wedge destroying the reactor was intercut with the Death Star preparing to fire and it was funny watching the ewoks be useless seeing the Empire just massacre them. There was one rough transition, which was the trimmed shot of Lando lowering his mask which suddenly cut to the exterior of Jabba’s Palace. This could be fixed by showing Chewie be led to his then cut to the outside of the Palace. Also since you cut LApti Nek it does create a plot hole for later when Threepio tries to warn Luke, even though he didn’t witness Jabba’s servant fall down the pit. So you could either somehow include the servant be killed after the Harmonica Turtle’s song, remove Threepio’s warning to Luke or unfortunately reinstate Lapti Nek.

Since this is Version 1.0 of the edit, I’ll suggest some further changes for Version 2.0:

  • Remove Boush’s subtitle “I want fifty thousand. No less.” Since Threepio translates it straight after. Similar to how Q2 had done it.
  • Trim Luke and Han’s dialogue scene on the skiff so it ends on Han saying “you’re going to die here, you know”
  • Remove Han saying “3PO, tell that slimey piece of worm ridden filth” because it is strange for Han to say that, so instead he says “He’ll get no pleasure from us.”
  • Remove the burp from the Sarlacc
  • During the shuttle scene where the clearance codes are being transmitted, you can remove some of Han’s dialogue “It’ll work… it’ll work”, “Now don’t get jittery Luke…” and “I told you it was going to work…”, So it focuses on Luke and Vader sensing each other. It can edited like:
    Han: Transmission commencing
Leia: Now we’ll find out if that code is worth the price we’ve paid
    Luke: Vader’s on the ship
    CUT to Vader question Piett
Luke: I’m endangering the mission, I shouldn’t have come.
Then the scene could play out as normal minus Han’s “I told you it was going to work, no problem.”
  • Trim everyone just standing around the meat, so it could be like Chewie goes straight for it.
  • Remove Leia’s “I know. Somehow I’ve always known” because her being speechless is a better reaction
  • When Threepio calls out to the stormtroopers, remove the imperial officer saying “bring those two over here” since they only saw Threepio.
  • When the death star first fires remove Lando saying “That blast came from the Death Star. That thing’s operational” since its unnecessary.
  • Finally, you can release a separate version with the Yub Nub ending instead of the Victory Celebration ending.

That is a good suggestion. I was halfway through rendering FOTR but I think I do agree with your first suggestion. And when it came to the gift scene, it took awhile for me to decide. But all in all, it was just way too long and the theatrical version still gives you the most important part of that scene. I’ll make sure to go back and edit in Gandalf telling Frodo gollums true name.

Thank you for the suggestions!

Glad that I could help!

Here is the scenes I’m thinking of adding from the extended edition for Return of the King:

-Decline of Gondor scene of Gandalf telling Pippin about the decline Gondor has gone through. This takes place after they first meet denethor.
-Add the extended scene of denethors convo with Faramir where he sees a hallunication of Boromir behind Farmair and yells at Faramir about not bringing him the ring.
-add the extended scene of Pippin and Faramir talking together about how Pippins uniform used to be Faramirs.
-add Faramir saying “I would gladly sacrifice my life for this city”.
-add the extra footage of Denethor and his servants carrying out Faramir to be burned.
-add the few extra action bits of Merry and Eowyn kicking ass.
-add houses of healing scene

Does this mean that you’re not going to include the death of saruman? I can understand why you wouldn’t add it because it goes on for too long but it does provide proper closure to sarman instead of the theatrical saying that his power has faded.

For FOTR, could I suggest that you also add the extended conversation between Gandalf and Frodo when they talk about Gollum, since it explains how Frodo knew Gollum’s original name was Smeagol in the Two Towers. And the extended Gifts scene because it does have some nice character moments and explains how Frodo and Sam were able to hide from the two guards in the Two Towers.
