Honestly, this interview confirmed what I've thought about Lucas for a very long time: he's not "evil", he's just an average guy (with a creative mind). If he only watches his movies once every 5 years or so, there is no way in hell he could possibly catch all these nitpick sorta things that people catch in his films... like goofs, continuity etc. and it fully explains the 2004 alterations IMO. You see, Lucas seems to like "movies" in a very "average joe" kind of way. All the coulor problems and things like the blue tint aren't really important to the story, or the way the film works... its just important to people like us who are endlessly pissed off about these sorts of things. Don't get me wrong, these "things" really tick me off too (oh how eagerly I await ESB revisited), but Lucas is a family man (gotta respect that), and he has more important tings than messed up lightsaber effects to worry about when the films still work 99% well. The story and characters of the original trilogy are always going to be the same, the films haven't really been "ruined" unless you're going nitpick and be caught up with things that shouldnt really matter. I dont exactly enjoy shifty CGI effects invading my childhood memories, but they arent really the biggest deal beacsue they arent actually changing anything about the intent of the film (only individual scenes are effected). Anyways, considering this information, its much easier to apreciate his opinion on releasing original versions or correcting mistakes.... he doesnt have to do anything because nothing is technically wrong! It just sucks for people like us haha.
