Interesting project for the ones who like the theatrical cut and only wish to get (good) extra material. Thanks !

What other edit are you going to do ?

I assume he was going to complete the trilogy of his conservative fanedits that are in essence combinations of other fanedits with some original cuts. His first two were very enjoyable so I hope so.

You are correct!

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Extended Edition
Time

So I’ve made a little stopgap release on my way to actually fan-editing Episode III. I noticed no one’s done an extended version of this film in HD, so I’ve gone ahead and done that using the Blu-Ray and the deleted scenes upscaled by Hal9000 as sources.

The following scenes are included:
-A Stirring in the Senate (Bail’s Office)
-Seeds of Rebellion (Padme’s Apartment)
-Confronting the Chancellor (Palpatine’s Office)
-Exiled to Dagobah

I didn’t want to reinsert any scenes that had unfinished effects or repeated dialogue that already appears in the film, so the following scenes are NOT included:

-Grevious Slaughters a Jedi: Escape from the General
-A Plot to Destroy the Jedi?
-any Blu-Ray deleted scenes

Also included is an optional secondary audio track that includes two minor changes:
-Yoda’s communion with Qui-Gon is restored using dialogue from The Clone Wars (from Hal9000s edit)
-Vader’s anguished exclamation of Noooo!!! is replaced with an anguished yell. (also from Hal’s edit)

This is currently available by PM and on a certain spleen as a 21gb 1080p mkv. Don’t talk about distribution in this thread.

Have fun!

I absolutely love this. I agree that if there’s a way to keep the full music without the slow motion it would be preferable though

I went back and forth on this one in my own edit for a long time. I ultimately left it in, but you’re convincing me that this may be a good cut.

Excited to see your vision, especially your desert Force vision 😃

I’m not sure why you would cut this personally.

Star Wars 77 six track mix with mono changes?
Time

Thanks for the response hairy_hen. I found a 97 mix synced to the GOUT that has the 70mm spliced in a few places to cover up SE changes. It’s not perfect but it does include most of the changes I’m looking for so I might just use that for now.

True, but even the Purist version has plenty of editing changes that would effect the sound, like the battle of Yavin being mostly re-edited. I think that would be very hard to GOUT sync.

Is this something that exists? I know purists will declare it heresy. I love hairy_hen’s recreation of the six track mix, but I just miss some of the mono changes like the tractor beam line and “open the blast doors”. It wouldn’t be faithful to the original theatrical experience, true, but It’s something I’d like to see nonetheless.

That’s fair, but conversely, I thought a goal of this version was also to give people a tool to create “custom” hybrid versions between it and Harmy’s eventual 3.0 edit. Reversions like the jump cut and the sabers make that harder to do if someone prefers the recomposited blu-ray versions. If it’s just a color correction baseline for Harmy, why work on the SE scenes (Mos Eisley entrance, etc.) at all?

The Saturday Morning Prequel Trilogy

If you could get a really good Ewan McGregor impersonator:

Anakin: "Are you coming master?

Obi-Wan: “Oh no, I have to get to class. Those younglings aren’t going to teach themselves the history of the Order. Besides, somebody needs to be their poster boy.”

Etc.

I just hate narrative changes that rely entirely on subtext like this. It’s obvious that if the films were being made from scratch with this intention, there’d be some reference in the film itself to Obi-Wan teaching classes of younglings either in dialogue or on screen. It feels too much like a “hack” and only holds together if you force the interpretation through opening crawl text, which feels inelegant.

Also, is the audience expected to believe that Anakin went out like a punk to a youngling when he’s supposedly a hero of the clone war and one of the greatest warriors in the Galaxy? I don’t know how I feel about that…

My whole beef with “preserving the twist” is that we never see Obi-Wan training any other pupils in the PT. Even if we did, when he tells Luke that Darth Vader was a pupil of his that fell to the dark side, who could he be talking about except the pupil we followed for three movies that obviously at least flirted with darkness?

What’s more reasonable to assume, that he had another pupil we never saw or heard him mention that also happened to fall to the dark side, or that he’s lying about it?

I think what you’re missing Malastrana, is that a movie with good and bad aspects, minus the bad aspects, doesn’t necessarily equal a better movie.

Even if something is “bad” or isn’t well executed, it’s sometimes necessary to support the story.

It’s like if you held up a bridge on poor-quality support beams. The beams are bad, but if you just take them out without replacing them, the bridge collapses.

This is something a lot of fan edits (even my prequel edits) struggle with. I enjoyed aspects of this edit but I felt like without any context for the characters, the edit doesn’t work, even if the context wasn’t executed well in the original film.

Out of curiosity, what’s the rationale behind this reversion:
"-Returning R2’s jump cut roll in the Tantive IV secondary corridor"

Also, what source are you using to restore the original lightsabers? Are you re-rotoscoping them by hand? In the Obi-Wan shot you included in the OP, the cores look pretty dull and there seems to be some weird color artifacts emanating from the sabers. Aside from it being too dark, I actually think the Blu-Ray looks better.

I would personally prefer the Sentinel class from Rebels, only because we haven’t seen it in the films before, and it is more clearly a transport while still looking similar enough to the original Tydirium to not feel entirely alien. The zeta class would be too radical a change IMO, and it’s role is so similar to Rogue One that it would feel like a repeat.

The more I watch the Obi-Wan vs. Maul duel on Tattooine in Rebels, the more I enjoy it. It only makes me want to imagine a duel between Kenobi and Vader in a more samurai kinda feel.

This. The original duel feels clumsy and disjointed but the Revisited version just feels frantic and over-edited. To create a very tactical, precise looking fight I think 2nd unit inserts would be needed. You’d just have to obscure Obi-Wans face.

Here’s what I have at this point for the Hosnian destruction, featuring NeverarGreat’s FX shots to darken SKB and remove the star destroyer. The audio sounds pretty unmolested, since the cut to the surface of the planet is in the same place audio-wise that the cut to Finn boarding the ship originally was. I added the sound effect for the exploding planet in the distance. I’m happier with this version than any prior.

I feel like there are several noticeable music edits there. I haven’t watched the original film in a while but the cut to Leia stood out to me in particular. Is there any way to just let the cue play out and maybe rebuild the sfx? Easier said than done I know.
