Info Wanted: Any highly recommended fan edits (non SW) ?
Time
The issue on some fan edits is that a bad film, is simply, well...bad. An edit can't really save it, because its problems go deeper than deleting scenes, rearranging scenes, etc. It goes deep into the plot, or lack thereof. Its hard to add plot by editing, remove a crappy plot, etc, by just editing.

A fan edit that I liked was Magnoliafan's Star Wars Episode 1. It made that flim better than before. I think it is avalable on torrents. The Phantom Edit is also good, but I personally perfer Magnoliafan's version.

I suppose it is not very likely, but I suppose since he moved the force from religion to science, it wouldn't be too far fetched for him to do the same with the Ark (now sort of an alien death ray box) and the grail (now an advanced alien medical technology).

Likely the Hebrew patriarch Abraham made a deal with aliens, but since he was an ignorant primitive he mistook them for a god. The aliens used their technology to help Abrahams wife have a baby at the age of 90, a miracle. Later when Abrahams decendants were held in captivity by the Egyptians, the aliens helped them escape and guided them to an area with better land and helped them to defeat the original occupants. Around this time they made them the Ark. Many years later one of the aliens named Jesus came to live among the humans teach them how to aspire to be a better race, but they didn't agree with him so they killed him. But aliens prove to be a bit of a challenge to take down, and he got back up, stuck around for awhile and went home, accidently leaving his healing device behind. A couple of thousand years later a guy named Henry Jones Jr. comes into contact with both of the alien artifacts. This summer, he'll get to the bottom of it all.

I really hope Lucas doesn't go this route. This will be a great way to destroy the IJ saga. Lets turn it into a clearly anti-religious statement. All that would accomplish is to offend many people and get people riled up.

I don't see that Aliens will fit into the story at all. I hope this isn't true.

How much longer will the format war last?
Time
I always thought that the main reason laserdisc didn't do too well was that it was priced so high in comparision to VHS that only the audio/videophiles really went for it, because of the better quality, even if it wasn't too much. In Japan, were laserdisc was priced much cheaper than in the US, it was much more popular. Laserdisc target the elite high-end market, not the mass-market.

Anyone else hear of this bit of dialog in any of the released versions?

Could this of been in the comic book or novel? for some reason I think I remember this here as well, but not from a spoken source. But one of the 'story of' records could of been correct as well.

Should have General Grevious been a reconstructed Darth Maul?
Time
Personally, I think that Grevious being Maul would of helped Grevious not be such a throwaway villain. But no, in the end, Grevious being Maul doesn't really make sense. But as a whole, I don't think that Grevious made much sense, other than a cool character that would sell action figures and gotta have something new and cool looking for the final film. Personally, I think they should of just done away with the character and let Dooku live longer, and fill the role Grevious had. It would of gotten rid of a waste of a villian, and given Dooku the extra screentime he deserved. He was built up too much in AOTC and Clone Wars to just get beheaded in the first 15 minutes of ROTS like he did.

Wasn't the return going to be basically a cameo? I doubt they would do two Joker films in a row. So his death shouldn't ruin the sequel.
Just like I've heard that the Scarecrow is supposed to be in this film as well. Probably in the beginning sequence is all.

Blu-ray Disc or HD-DVD?
Time
The issue is that most people still have old TVs, and aren't really in the market for something new. They are waiting around for "prices to drop" and aren't wanting to upgrade right now. Agreed, retailers are pushing HDTVs hard, but if you look at sales figures vs. predicted sales for HDTVs, they have consistently been very dissapointing for retailers. One stat I heard is that at current sales, HDTVs won't acheive 60% of the market for 15-30 years. If most people are that slow to adopt HDTV, I don't see any bigger hurry to adopt high-def DVDs. Especially when you are dealing with people who just stopped buying VHS about 5 years ago or so. They just upgraded, so why do they need to again? And the whole "format war" scares people off quickly. They remember they or someone they know got burned by buying a betamax, and they don't want to go through that again.

It still seems like the laserdisc to me-expensive, high end, high quality, and not used by the vast majority of the people.
But it appears that the blu-ray is winning, at least they have the most films and units out there, and thats what most people look at when they buy.

One reason the war isn't over, and I don't think it will end anytime soon, is because the whole High-Def DVD thing has gotten a big yawn from consumers. I think most people are happy with standard DVDs for the time being, and aren't really ready to upgrade. Most people don't even have a HDTV of any kind yet. This format war would of been over by now if consumers as a whole cared about it. But currently, it seems like most of the people who do are high-end audio/videophiles. Unless things change, it seems like the high-def DVD is going to be this generations equivalent of the laserdisc, whichever format ends up winning.

Maybe its like that old commercial for energizer, where Vader is threating to cut down the Energizer bunny with his lightsaber, and then it fizzles out, and he takes out some cheap brand of batteries that just died.

Lesson Learned: One should always use Energizer batteries in a lightsaber.

Fall to the Dark Side?
Time
For me, the whole turn to the dark side bit was ruined by the prequels. In the OT, the Dark Side is like a drug. Once you use it once or twice, your hooked on it and it comsumes you, and controls you. So for me, thats why Vader said things like that he "must obey his master" because he was a slave to the dark side at this point. In ROTJ, the emperor and vader are both pretty sure that all it won't take much to turn Luke dark, with Vader simply telling Luke to 'join us', or make him mad enough to use the dark side once or twice and the emperor wanting Luke to get angry enough to kill Vader. So at this point, it looks like to me that it doesn't take much to make a person dark side.

Now enter the PT. Anakin pretty much is always angry, slaughters a whole tribe of Sandpeople in a blind rage, and cold-bloodedly killing Count Dooku, and he stays light. Throw in the EU with him also using the darkside to defeat Assaj Ventress multiple times, and it seems like it is really hard to actually fall to the dark side. I guess it helped draw out the movie, but I was expecting something more quick, sudden, and not this drawn-out process that it became. I mean, something slower makes sense for something like Smallville, were we are talking about personal choices and personallity, but in Star Wars, the dark side seems to be much more of a controlling force.

Okay, sure, they made a full-length documentary for each episode, but theres only 13 of them, and no additional extras beyond DVD-ROM stuff. $90?? If it was $40 or $50 I would pick it up, because I liked the show and I liked that they are taking an educational stance. But honestly--WHO is actually going to be buying these things when they are almost 100 bucks? LFL has made a serious, grave mistake here, and all that work they put into this--three or four years worth--is going to go down the drain. A shame.

Isn't this about the same price as most any Star Trek full season set? Of course, the major difference is that Star Trek for the most part isn't as dull as Young Indiana Jones, and has many more fans. In a way, I'm suprised they even got released. They are trying to cash in on the upcoming movie. I'd be suprised if they don't get discounted down to the $40-$50 range someday, maybe after Indiana Jones IV comes out on DVD.

Just because its on Starwars.com doesn't mean that it has to be star wars related. Its just that Lucasfilm doesn't exactly control a big Howard The Duck website, for example, so that is the next best alternative.
Although the idea of the Ewoks movies are intriguing. I think that they are also good possiblities.

I still think that it is more likely to be Howard the Duck than the Star Wars Holiday Special. Lucas has such a hate for the Holiday Special, I don't see him even allowing it to be shown to be given the MST3K treatment. Howard the Duck, on the other hand, is different. He seems to have a more accepting tone and can laugh at himself for its cheesyness. Maybe it is because its not really his creation, but a comic book. But I can see Joel and company having a much easier time convincing Lucasfilm to let them do Howard the Duck than the SWHS.

But I will also say that I hope that it is the SWHS. It would be cool hear what they would do with it, and maybe even a decent print out of the deal as well.

Hey, maybe this is it. Maybe instead of the SWHS, its Howard the Duck. Lucas seems to at least not deny that Howard the Duck exists. I have difficulty seeing him suddenly releasing the Holiday Special when he's pretty much done everything but flat out deny it ever happened. He doesn't seem to be quite so harsh on Howard the Duck.
