Just for fun, I tried correcting three of the trailer images with a global adjustment:
Just for fun, I tried correcting three of the trailer images with a global adjustment:
What if it was hyphenated? Kylo-ren.
Or Ben-kylo-ren.
Or Kylo-ren-ben.
Or Obi-benkylo.
Or Sheev-ren.
Holy heartbreak, that’s great.
I have a feeling a lot of TFA edits are gonna have a bit of a continuity issue on their hands, as I’m sure they’re going to use the Leia “I don’t care” scene in TROS.
But how? Since the Republic has been turned into a planet-sized bowl of cocoa pebbles, they would have to change everything except that line.
It’s much more likely to me that they would use a scene that was shot but never released, like the one where Maz gives Leia the lightsaber.
That would be excellent!
JEDIT: Not that I dislike what you’ve put together, but you know how I can’t leave anything alone until it’s been approached from 3 different angles and gone through at least five revisions. 😉
I think it works.
I do still really like the theatrical transition from Finn to the island though. Maybe it’s enough to go from the original wide shot of the island to the small figure of Rey already climbing the steps.
It’s also a shame to lose the overhead shots of Rey approaching Luke. An ideal version for me would be to have Rey bypass the huts on first approach, then paint Luke out of those aerial shots and have Rey approach the spot where she saw him in the vision, then look slightly confused and walk down to the huts. That’s probably too involved though and I’m not even sure if it would work.
It was a few pages back in the thread that I talked about the TLJ scene, and how to better reconcile the image of exiled Jedi Luke from the end of TFA with depressed hobo Luke from TLJ.
The concept is that Rey’s ‘vision’ of Luke as the mysterious savior in his Jedi robes standing at the edge of the cliff is little more than a dream on her part, so when she actually arrives on the island expecting to find Luke there, he’s gone. She then goes looking for him, finding him hiding in his hut in his hobo robes, having never worn his Jedi duds at all.
It’s definitely more involved than a simple splice or two, though the scene would technically work if it was just the end of TFA spliced onto the scene from TLJ.
That would be awesome! My ideal TLJ edit would again use your edit as the base Hal, so making an alternate version of that with Rey trekking up to the island summit and finding Luke gone would be perfect! I imagine her trek being a shortened version of the TFA scene using the shots discarded from my edit along with some rendition of the Jedi Steps, and she would get up there and look confused as the music fades away.
Thanks Omni (and Hal, and Jarbear, and…). it’s heartening to hear that all this work may have some real value to others. So many projects get abandoned and it’s such a shame, I really want this one to live up the expectations you have for it.
Ridley, I recall you were trying to incorporate the BTS footage of Han’s dice at one point, did you ever manage to get that to work?
I’m trying to get something released before Episode 9 comes out.
Thanks, I’m quite pleased at how things are flowing right now 😃
Updated and organized the OP cutlist.
I know Kylo is big into family genealogy, probably metal detecting for…stuff…and he has quite an active twitter account.
As for real Sith, I imagine them to be big into Bob Ross paintings or puppy sitting, something to preserve that work/life balance.
You’re saying that after two full trilogies (Benioff & Weiss’ and then Johnson’s), you honestly believe they won’t jump into X-XII?
The numbered saga will never be over. But every third numbered saga film will always be advertised as if it’s the very last one. It’s only a matter of how much time they go in between IX and X, then XII and XIII, then XV and XVI, then XVIII and XIX…
I honestly believe that thinking this isn’t going to be the case is naive.
I’m sure you’re right, but I hope they at least wait 15-20 years between each trilogy so that each generation can have ‘their’ nostalgic version of Star Wars.
Finally, an on-topic post.
The sequels have some excellent visuals.

Exciting times! I will watch your career with great interest.
I’m happy to call the game table scene locked, so it’s on to the next one!
Now the discussion flows from one discrete topic to the next: Starkiller, Rey (the awakening), and finally Han. Any talk of seduction is kept strictly in the Rey category, which feels a lot less weird than when they were talking about Ben’s dad.

In the newest Episode IX trailer, it looks like Rey is training against a red(?) training remote. Maybe it could be recolored to match that one. So when Finn pulls it out it is a training remote, but not the same one from 40 years ago.
That’s a fun idea!
I could go either way on that as well, but for the moment it’s still in.
Okay, I’ve reverted back to the deflected gaze shot, and dealt with the weird ‘so’ by shortening that section even further:

BB-8 also has more worried beeps when asked to reveal the map, which I believe fits with his more cautious nature in this edit.
