Star Wars 1977 70mm sound mix recreation [stereo and 5.1 versions now available] (Released)
Time

Ha, that's funny, if true!  I don't have the Blu-rays so I can't check.  From what I've heard of them though they did sound like tweaked versions of the 2004 re-mix and weren't that impressive.

I recently took part in an all day Star Wars marathon (video here) and we watched the Dark_Jedi discs for the OT.  Everyone thought they looked and sounded great.  My post here is just the tiniest of nitpicks and I did enjoy them overall, hairy_hen (and Dark_Jedi).  Thank you!

RELEASED: "Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Special Longer Version)"

"Back in 1991 I went to a one time only theatrical showing in New York City of all 5 Trek films (up to that date). They presented the films back to back. They called it "Sit Long and Prosper". The showing of ST:TMP was in 70mm, and had most of the extra footage that is included on the extended pan & scan VHS, but not all of it.

There were never any 70mm prints made of TMP, only 35m prints.  Some of the 35mm prints had the extra TV footage spliced in for the "Sit Long and Prosper" showings.  Even the print that was pulled to show Robert Wise at the Director's Guild in preparation for The Director's Edition project was one that had these scenes spliced back in.  That print was also missing the overture.

70mm prints were planned initially, but the frenzied post production period didn't allow for them to happen.  A film has to be locked in order to produce the 70mm version because the sound has to be recorded to the mag track.  That may even have to happen in real time.  As we all know, there was barely any time to get the 35mm prints made.

That's exactly what happened. I haven't bothered with this thread or this project in a long time. I have a screen shot that a friend took with my name on it.

Thank you Adywan for re-rendering the credits. I trust that we won't have an issue anymore.

And I find it amusing that I'm the "rude" one yet I'm the one being called names.

He animated the chess game.

The transcript is not complete. They censored out Carrie's description of the mynock (she said it looked like a vagina) and Mark Hamill said what the backgraound extras were saying. That language has also been cut.

That photo is in the soft cover version as well. The book failed my test though. It had the term "Star Destroyers" in it, and if it's about the making of Star Wars, they should be "Imperial cruisers".

Ladd was much more interesting last night at the Julia screening.

The Star Wars - Episode IV - A New Hope SE screening, despite the horrible movie was the real Celebration IV. The amount of true talent and pioneers that were there was staggering. Even though he wasn't announced, Phil Tippet was even there. All sorts of original Star Wars effects people and technicians were there. It was a fantastic crowd. No friggin' Daniel Logan or chumps like that.

Incredibly dumb that its the SE.

It wasn't the 1997 SE though. It was the 2004 version. At least the 1997 version had a sound mix that at least resembled Star Wars. The current mix doesn't. Between that, the longer edit and the to clear picture with weird coloring, I found the movie extremely boring and couldn't wait for it to be over.

Most of the stories were ones we'd heard before. There seemed to be a good camaraderie between the effects guys. There was a lot of discussion with them and Kurtz, and I really enjoyed that. Carrie Fisher said the "mynock" resembled a vagina. Mark Hamill told a funny story about how the background actors (he hates the term "extras") were saying off-color comments while they were filming the walk down the throne room. He said once he explained the movie to them and what was going on in the scene, they stopped. The mixers on the film talked about the time crunch they were in mixing the movie (8 pm to 8 am, 7 days a week for 7 weeks).
