Info: The Making of The Empire Strikes Back (Michel Parbot)

Man, there's always somebody who turns a huge positive into a negative situation. As some one else here said, no one would have known as much as we do now about this doc if Darth Neo hadn't come forward. He's already shared about 15- 20 min of it! But I guess some people feel "entitled" to other people's property simply because they're a fan.

Do you realize how much time and effort goes into building a site of that scale? All for FREE for everyone's benefit! All for a love of the films and a desire to share that love with other fans. Are Star Wars fans as a whole paying for his time and server/internet fees etc? Obviously not, so give him a break! He doesn't HAVE to share anything with anybody. Just cause you can't download it doesn't mean it wasn't great that you got the chance to see it in the first place. If you want to see it again, go to the site. In fact, he's created something really wonderful as an exhaustive reference point for star wars photos. Nothing else there really exists in this format. There are sites that have a multitude of images, but most of those pics are of the standard variety.

I've corresponded personally with Darth Neo over the past few weeks (some of my photos are on his site) and I will attest that he's done all of this work for Star Wars fans just because he wants to share his passion for the films, and their making of. He's a great fellow fan and his generousity is limitless.

If you're jealous that he has something you don't, well you just have to learn that lesson in life. Everybody on this board is interested in sharing as much material with each other as possible, but at some point you have to draw the line. Darth Neo made a promise not to re-distribute the making of. But he did come on this site, signed up, gave as much info as he could and gave us footage from it. I own original photo material from the films. Since I'm a member on this site, does that entitle everyone here to high res copies of those photos, especially when I'm the one who invested the money in aquiring them in the first place? But I did feel as a fan it would be great to show them in a format and size that doesn't diminish the rarity of my originals, and that's why they're on his site in a lower res and non-downloadable. As for his making of doc, I think he's stretched his promise about as far as it can go in our favor, don't you?

Being from the netherlands, Darth Neo can bring a lot of international material to us that most North American's would have trouble finding. He's a great fan and I know the majority here appreciate what he's doing. He shouldn't have to defend himself in the least, especially since a week ago, 99 percent of us hadn't seen a lot of the images now displayed for free on his site.

I'm not looking for a copy.

I have one. I was just wondering if someone were going to torrent this.

I'm confused - you said "supposedly it has Mark Carrie etc" - but why would you say "supposedly" if you already have a copy and know that it actually does/doesn't? Anyways, it would be great if you we're willing to torrent this or have someone else torrent your copy.....

Hi friends,

I'm new to this forum and I've read this Michel Parbot thread with great interest. Our great friend Garrett Gilchrist guided me here.

I dont have a copy of that special, but I have some partially poor quality recordings of some Dutch, German and British programmes which are using alot of this Parbot footage. I will upload it hopefully this coming weekend.

I'm optimistic that either the whole documentary will be published one fine day, or Darth Neo will provide it with permission of his source. Even though it is sad for the time being, I understand his reasons since he has given his word. Still I'm looking forward to seeing is upcoming website.

However, the only way to make sure a rare thing doesnt go lost, is to share it. Just imagine a rare thing is lost in a fire and there is no copy. Or one unexpectedly dies and his relatives, wifes, children simply dispose of what they might consider worthless rubbish. Be it a books, photos, films, text, whatsoever.

I appreciate very much the attitude of the members here, who so willingly share these things and save them from going lost. Stay tuned for some addtions I will make to this forum very soon. They may not be just as good and long as the Parbot special you are talking about, but probably unseen by most of you.

Regards,

Rok

looking forward to it - welcome!

I sporadically have access to a 3/4 deck (they're getting harder and harder to find these days) , but it may take me a while to get to this - if somebody else here has better access to a deck, I'm willing to mail them the tape....here's the info from the label....

This needs to be preserved. Also, I forgot who had it, but doesn't someone here have the WIP version of The Making Of Alien 3? With the timecode still on it? Come on, folks, let's get cracking!

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time
Oh man! So sorry Adywan - it doesn't save your color corrected settings in the program you're working on? You cant just replace the uncorrected file and re-apply the corrections from your project file? Or did you mixdown all of the changes into one file and you lost that? (I'm used to working this way in ae and fcp) As for sleepless nights, remember this is all supposed to be for fun and none of us are pressuring you to finish by a certain date, so make sure you don't sacrifice your health!

I have some really rare stuff (original continuity polaroids from Empire, some other never published photos as well), I might be willing to scan some of that stuff for you....

I can only hope people will not abuse the needs of others in this way. I have been ripped off a few times before on ebay and it's not something I wish on anybody. As for the emails: I am prepared. I have opened a special adress for this site and I hope I get a lot of emails. I will place a special request for special and rare images that people can send me if they want to which I will place on the website. I want it to become a collection of all the rare and unusual stuff related to Star Wars. I will also include stuff on the website that's very hard to come by (expect classic vintage magazine scans of that era).

As for the John Williams photo that I was talking about, here it is. If anyone knows When / What or Where, I would love to know.

Cheers,

Darth Neo

Hey Darth Neo, do you think that enough proof exists now for you to release this? Not trying to push you or anything, just wondering what your stance was now? Looking forward to the website...

Hi Guyz,

looking with great interest at the developments on this tread. I have thought about it for 2 days now and can promise you this: if you guys find another copy of this which proves it was released/shown in some form, and if my copy's quality is better, I will create a fan copy of my tape.
The reason for this is: I made this promise in the understanding that it was a special that was never released in any form. If that proves to be untrue or when a lower quality version of this program is already out there I see no reason to hold out on this one. I will just not be the guy that brings this out there and break my initial promise.

I am, however, hyped to speed up things with my website and will work on it non stop this weekend. I will release the website sooner than intended and leave a lot of the other stuff that I was planning out. This will all be added at a later time as updates. How's that.....

I have selected a few clips from the program for the website that will be shown in the flv format that I think are special. Here's one of them.

special clip 2: the making of the empire strikes back

See you guyz later,

Darth Neo

Are a lot of the deleted effects shots just on their own, interspersed with black?

I was so excited back when I first got it...the shot of the Alien walking headfirst down the wall during the fire sequence made me giddy.

I believe so, (I made a vhs copy at onbe point - I'll have to dig it out and watch it again) - but my copy is an original from the studio 3/4 (almost as good as beta sp/broadcast quality), so I think it would be the best source material....I'll try to figure out how to turn my pms on....

EDIT Ok - pm's are on...
