THE STAR WARS SAGA - 1080P AVCHD DVD-9 for PS3 & Blu-Ray players - Episodes 1, 4 & 5 available now
Time

OK, well I can finally chime in on this project now that I have SEEN it properly. I watched it on my new 46" Samsung 650 series LCD with a PS3 and it is just phenomenal! Ady, I'm so glad that you're part of this community. We all owe you so much and it is difficult to really express how much respect I have for your efforts (... a lot...)

Anyway, keep up the great work. I can't wait for the AVCHD of Empire!

I burned to dual layer on my MacBook 2.4GHz C2D using ImgBurn in Windows 2000 via VMware Fusion. I probably could have used Toast or Disk Utility in OS X no problem, but was interested to see if I could do it through Windows virtualization. Worked great without any problems. Nice to have ImgBurn on my Mac! Anyway, I don't have a PS3 or an HDTV, so I used VLC in OS X to play the .m2ts file on the burned disc and it worked flawlessly. My MacBook scaled it down to 720p for its screen and it looks beautiful. No problems switching through the audio streams either. Ady, nice job mate!

So, on a Mac, burn the ISO to disc and play the .m2ts file in VLC. You'll probably need at least a newer dual core Intel Mac to play smoothly...

When and in what format was the first time you saw Star Wars?
Time

San Francisco. May 1977. I was 7. Stood in line for what seemed like forever to a little kid. I have memory burn not from the Star Destroyer passing overhead, but from the first closeup of Vader on the Tantive IV. Everyone in the theater was cheering loudly for him. I thought to myself "This might be something I'll like." I was hooked. And then, GL went insane and the rest is history...

All of the trailers are included on the 4 disc EditDroid Special Features set, including professionally telecined Revenge and Return trailers, and anamorphic IIRC...

Where the hell can you download this set?  I haven't been able to find it anywhere!

I posted to usenet a quite a while ago. Maybe time for a repost?

edskizzorhands said:Great now it's saying I need a Mpeg 2 codec? Which apple want 20 bucks for! Is this worth it? Also, what is the best quality FCP compatible format to convert it too. I want to keep as much quality as I can.

The MPEG2 codec is included with FCP. If you paid for FCP and have a valid license it should not be an issue. Otherwise, you're on your own. The best quality FCP compatible codec would be SheerVideo.

Is regular old DV a decent intermediate codec (Mac)
Time

I would NOT recommend DV. The compression is horrible. I've used the Photo JPEG codec and edited in FCP my two "Story" releases. I chose it because it was the best looking codec that I could edit in real time on my old G4 iMac. I think the quality was excellent even after going to MPEG2. Photo JPEG set to max quality takes up roughly the same amount of space as DV and looks a ton better. Ideally, you should probably use SheerVideo (lossless codec, but $$). I wish there was HuffYUV on the Mac! Other than that, just experiment with some of the Motion JPEG codecs and see which one works best for you and your system.
