Good to see you're still around, Z...
Good to see you're still around, Z...
I guess I should have specifically stated that CBS TV (owners of TOS) "gets it". I'm not surprised to hear that Paramount's efforts are different. The TOS Blu-ray is an example of how to not f**k something up and please a wide variety of audience...
I don't venture over in this forum often, but thought I'd share my experience with the just released blu-ray of the Season One of TOS.
It really is an example of how SW should (but never will) be released on blu. The restoration of the old 35mm masters is beautiful (not mangled color alterations). And, thank god they kept the original 4:3 aspect ratio. It includes not only the new special effects "Remastered" versions but through the use of seamless branching gives us the choice of viewing the original versions as well. So, in HD I can watch new special effects versions with 7.1 audio or my beloved authentic versions with the original mono audio. I don't particularly care for the new effects and shots (although they are infinitely more tasteful than anything GL puked up). But the great thing is that you have the CHOICE! The star trek camp understands this and is why the blu-ray of TOS is really nice. $65 at Best Buy for 29 episodes is a great deal as well. Can't wait for the 2nd and 3rd seasons.
Progress update:
Finished up a few last editing details on the main feature. With Galactus' OK, that portion should now be final. Next up is authoring the DVD. I can't honestly say when it will be finished, as I haven't technically started authoring yet. But, I do plan on finishing this project hopefully sometime this year. Thanks for sticking around...
OK, I'm not one to normally care enough to actually post a complaint about people derailing threads, but please. These continued OT posts are really annoying. Every time I see a new X0 posting, I think "Hey, something's going on with the X0! I better check it out." But no, it's always stupid OT crap. Please take your OT junk to your own thread and stop hijacking this one. End of rant...
I prefer the straight border, more what my eyes are trained to think is "correct".
I would vote against any side black bars. My HDTV is set to 'just scan' and it's more preferable when the image goes all the way from side to side. People that have TV's with overscan won't know the difference, but people like me will...
Sluggo said:On an almost related note, does Imandex or whatever it is called do mock-ups for blue-ray covers? I am just about done with some I'd like to share for this project.
Yes, Imandix Cover Pro does.
Octorox said:stossmo said:Can anyone help me? These inspired me to go out and get a PS3(I wanted one anyway, I swear) and I still cant get a version worth watching.
My IMAC G5 has failed mid-burn with 4 DL discs so I gave up on that (I was just burning the ISO right to the disc and burning like a data disc). I then put the ISO right on my external hard drive and of course the PS3 wouldnt recognize anything on that (I guess I would need to reformat...Fats or something...whatever) so then I spent 40 bucks on a converter program (AVCWare Mac Video Converter) in an attempt to convert it to a DVD format so I could at least Burn it as a standard DVD on popcorn. Well 10 hours later I converted it to DVD format but it only created a VOB, not the Video_TS folder that I had anticipated. Popcorn wont recognize the VOB so I stalled on that. I then just tried to put the VOB file on the PS3 because I read they can play those but the movie stutters and is cropped (not full wide screen).....I think I abused the green too much in my 20s cuz as much I try to research these things I just end up clueless and frustrated. What generous soul can offer some advice?
Stace
I'm on an intel iMac and had no trouble burning the iso with Disk Utility. Have you given that a try?
Yes, try Disk Utility first. Under the "Images" pull down menu, select "Burn..." On my Intel MacBook, I burned SW with Toast in OS X and Empire with ImgBurn in Windows 2000 through VMware Fusion. Both worked without issue. The main thing is that you're not burning the ISO file as a data disc. That will not work. I can vouch that both play perfectly on my PS3. Oh yeah, and don't use crappy media...
Ziz said:Move - did you ever at least start Jedi, like convert and clean up the audio track, at least? Maybe you could make it available for someone else to follow in your footsteps.
I used Scotty Balls' vinyl transfers, the best out there IMHO. For SOSW I used his widely available mp3's. For Empire, he supplied me with a lossless PCM capture and I used that. He did the same for Jedi, but honestly there is no real difference to my ears. They both sound great. If someone wants to do Jedi, by all means be my guest and knock yourself out. The mp3's out there should be a great starting point...
RascalRobot said:I would love to get a copy of your star wars projects and I have tried to figure out how to download them. Here are the problems I am having.
alt.binaries.starwars doesn't seem to exist anymore.
I have no idea what a "torrent" is.
I don't know how to access myspleen, the webpage just shows a username/password login.
RapidShare doesn't have a "search" option.
Is there any website that I can access ( or an exact link to rapidshare ) that has the ISO image available for download?
a.b.sw hasn't gone anywhere but it has a definite learning curve. I need to do another repost of my projects, definitely. I'm also afraid that the torrent route might not help out, as I highly doubt that SW or Empire is being seeded much if at all at myspleen... Just checked and as I thought, no seeders. That's the problem with torrents. With age they just die. Shoot me a PM with your address and I'll send you a copy.
Right now I might as well come out and say that I probably won't ever have the time or inclination to do Jedi. I just don't have the time or passion anymore for working on these kinds of projects. I mainly check in here now just to keep up on Ady's and Puggo's projects. Nothing else really holds my interest anymore.
Bravo!
Well done with a keen sense of humor...
It's a PC capture/watching device for Mac.

No doubt there is something identical in functionality on the Windows side...
The firewire port on my Cox Scientific Atlanta DVR is active, but everything is encrypted. So it seems the law states that they have to have active ports, not anything about being able to actually transport any content over those ports...
I have an Elgato EyeTV Hybrid usb tuner capture device that can get OTA ATSC or Clear QAM cable. It works great and captures a digital stream just as it is broadcasted. In my area, all the OTA and Clear QAM streams are MPEG2, both SD and HD.
Oldschooljedi said:AvP,
please give us a nice cover for Ep. V as you did for Ep. IV!
Yeah, what he said! Can't wait to have Empire in a case on my shelf...
Hopefully, I'll be able to get things completed by spring time (North America). The edit is practically complete. I just need to author the DVD, which shouldn't take more than a couple of months once I can get started. Just been real busy with life...
Womble mpeg2vcr seems to do the job. Wow, what a brutally horrid interface. But what the hell, it works. Thanks...
I have windows on my mac to be able to use MeGUI and tsMuxeR. I use these tools to convert HDTV broadcast captures to x264 AVCHD on DVD9 for my PS3. Now I'm not a full time windows video guy, so I don't know ALL the tools out there. All I want is to be able to cut the TV commercials out at a frame accurate level directly with the MPEG-2 capture. The software for my Elgato EyeTV Hybrid USB tuner capture device (OS X) does not allow frame accurate editing. I can't find anything on the Mac side that will do this directly with the MPEG-2 stream without transcoding/re-encoding. I'm sure there is a solution on windows, preferably free. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ady, thanks for giving Empire back to me.
Again, this is a MUST HAVE for anyone with the right equipment and is currently the best way on the planet to enjoy Empire. Speaking as someone who has spent a LOT of time on the color correction, I must bow down to Ady on this one. Quite a few of the scenes I thought we might have shared our CC settings! But, you were able to get the snow just perfect. That was something I couldn't get just right. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
BTW, I burned ANH with ImgBurn in Windows 2000 and ESB with Toast in OS X, and they both worked just fine using MBI dual-layer glossy hub printable media.
Now if we could just get some nice artwork. Hint... AvP... Hint...
AvP, will you be making cover and disc artwork for the Empire AVCHD? I have your ANH printed and in a Blu-ray case and it looks awesome. Would love to have Empire in a case with matching artwork...

Hey, is anyone able to send me a copy of the KCCI-TV 8 - Des Moines, Iowa version??
JD
I will...
Great news. Thanks JD and Moth3r...
The compliments mean a lot to me and I'm glad you're enjoying it. Thanks so much!
Great to hear that, JD. If you can't find a download, let me know and I'll mail you a copy...
