The Audio Preservation Thread
Time

Hi all,

I PMed PDB a couple times a few months ago, asking if I could be sent links to a few films, but they may have gone overlooked. I'd be hugely appreciative if anyone could share with me any of the following:

  • Alien (Andrea's version)
  • Aliens
  • Back to the Future - (Synced to DCP)
  • Batman (1989)
  • Duck You Sucker
  • The Fly
  • The Hunt for Red October
  • Ghostbusters (Jonno's version)
  • The Goonies
  • Mad Max 2/Road Warrior
  • North by Northwest (Criterion)
  • Once Upon a Time in the West
  • Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom
  • Robocop
  • Star Trek (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
  • The Thing (Jonno's version)

I'd also like to offer my services if anyone would like additional help syncing -- I have a bit of Avisynth experience with it. And if anyone would be interested in a fairly extensive (but still quite condensed) list of 'original mix versus remix' differences (and preferences for different versions of the same mix), I'd be happy to share my personal findings as well!

Thank you :-)

HALLOWEEN - Fixing the audio and re-creating 1999 color timing (Released)
Time

In case anyone is interested:

I compared Matt_Stevens' synced laserdisc mono track with the new mono track included on the Shout! Factory Halloween box set release. The mono included on the new blu-ray is actually the original mix this time around (no fold-downs, unlike the 35th Anniversary), but it doesn't sound nearly as good as the LD audio -- too much noise reduction.

There has been an offer from a known forum member here, who lives in Italy to help with the transaction, so that is very much appreciated, it will make it a lot easier and safer.

That's great. So basically it is looking like $2000 all in. That a tough mountain but I will help, what I can. It is unlikely to see an IB Italian every again.

Also technical question. I have been trying for days to send Andrea the night scenes from the 4K and Mondo. I was able to convert the 4K easily to loseless but the Mondo, won't load in virtualdub since it is VC-1. I keep getting missing codec. I have tried various solutions (fdshow, etc) but no go. Anyone have any ideas?

You could try using AvsPmod instead, using FFMS2 to index the file.

But re-encoding a section losslessly will make it crazy huge no matter what you do. It'd probably be better to just split to roughly the same timecodes with mkvmerge.
