Our favorite Jedi is now 68. Happy Birthday, Mark!
Our favorite Jedi is now 68. Happy Birthday, Mark!
Stamp collecting?
Kim was probably talking Mark’s ear off about how Laserblast was going to be bigger than Star Wars. 😉
Oh, NO DOUBT! 😄
Here’s a pic of Mark Hamill with Corvette Summer co-star Kim Milford (left), at the Las Vegas Hilton circa July 1977. I don’t know who the other 2 people in the photo are, but Mark looks like he’s being held hostage.
Cool to think I was actually living in Las Vegas when this photo was taken!
Here’s the article that the photo came from:

Here’s an article about good guys/bad guys and modern storytelling vs folk tales that sure invokes Darth Vader’s name a lot:

Yeah, I have that 2 DVD set. The original Saturday Night Fever DVD also has a truncated version of the BTM doc, and I think I have the David Cassidy episode on VHS somewhere (and it’s also on YouTube). But I’m looking for some of the other episodes, mostly from season 2 (1998), specifically the KC & The Sunshine Band episode (which has gained a bit of notoriety in the years since).
Apparently, the rights have expired for these and VH1 no longer airs them. Some of them were really interesting and I’d like to see them again, and I’m wondering if anyone has done preservations? It’d be a shame if they all just disappeared. Some are on YouTube & Daily Motion, but not many. 😕

Steven Soderburgh is “bitchuation”? LOL. No wonder I couldn’t find him!

Then there’s this reply from someone at TCMhttps://twitter.com/ctabesh/status/1156747612935954438
Sigh.
Yeah, that was his reply to me.
Joe Dante even Tweeted about the film being aired in the wrong aspect ratio!

Steven Soderbergh too.
What did SS say? I can’t find it.
Wow. Good for Joe. I wish more industry-types would get on the bandwagon and make a stink about this sort of stuff.
What irritates me the most is that the cable synopsis always says “Star Wars (1977)”. If they’re going to show the 1997 version, it should say so.
I may just shoot TCM an irate email later tonight. LOL.
They’ve done that with THX-1138 as well.
I know, I’m sure I sent them a nasty email about that at the time. A lot of good it did, lol.
EDIT: Charles Tabesh (TCM programmer) responded to Joe Dante on Twitter:
“You’re right - I apologize. We have the wrong version, learned about it last night and it was too late to obtain the correct one. Definitely a mistake on our end but not intentional.”

Just off the top of my head:
The “dice” hanging in the MF cockpit.
The car cassette-deck in Luke’s X-wing cockpit.
I’m sure there’s a lot of other stuff I can’t think of right now.
That’s interesting-- I knew that Disney passed on Back To The Future, but I didn’t know they passed on SW as well. Kind of ironic.
Damn. 😦 I should have known, considering that TCM showed the special edition of THX-1138 as well. The “classic” in Turner Classic Movies, evidently doesn’t mean much.
I don’t get Turner Classic Movies anymore, and I found out on another site that they’re showing STAR WARS tonight (for the first time, I think).
Anybody watching? Is it 1977 or SE???
Encouraging development! Wish I could have been there.
It’s a ridiculous situation. The 40th anniversary would have been a perfect opportunity.
There is an opportunity on the Home Theater Forum to ask a question of Criterion’s technical director. I’m going to submit a question about the possibility of Criterion taking on the OOT for a restoration and release. It’s an idea that’s been bandied about for many years now.
There’s no guarantee that my question will be chosen, but it couldn’t hurt to submit it!
Seems like he was a very nice man. Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of meeting him. RIP. 😦
Yes, but I don’t want Mark showing up on my doorstep in a Joker costume either. Not to mention he’s voicing the new Chucky! 😛
I did voice over stuff back in college, for my own projects and for others. I recorded dialog with my head stuck in a large cardboard tube to simulate wearing a space helmet once. I’ve found automobile interiors also work well for recording booths.
Yeah, I saw the new Child’s Play trailer the other day— I’m really curious to see how Mark’s “Chucky” turned out!
I guess a car would work well-- it would be pretty sound proof & the upholstery would deaden reflections a lot. My walk-in closet is really perfect except when a plane goes overhead or there’s a thunderstorm, or a guy outside with a leaf blower, etc.
When I was a kid, I asked my mom for a tape recorder, and I used to “interview” my friends and family, and do radio drama-type shows with sound effects and stuff, lol. I used to record myself reading some of my favorite books, too. I used that same recorder to record the audio to Star Wars off HBO when it first aired (didn’t have a VCR yet), and other Star Wars-related TV shows.
If course we want to know about mark ! Assumed you would tell us if you could!
I was waiting for someone to ask!
Kind of unfortunate news, actually. Mark was working on a voice-over project (don’t know which one) and apparently he’s done a lot of drinking and smoking during his lifetime and they’ve taken their toll. Anyhow, the director described the session as “nightmarish”, not because of Mark’s behavior (he said Mark was great), but because Mark was really having a tough time getting through the session. 😕 I was really shocked.
How does one become a voice-over artist? Were you an actor before? Or did someone just hear you speak and say “she’s got the right kind of voice”? Just curious
No, I had no acting experience previously, though both of my parents were actors and singers. It was always something I was curious about, and thought I could do, because people were always telling me I had a nice voice and I was even asked to record the outgoing message on the phone system for a business I worked for back in the 90s.
I signed up on voice123 and voices.com and started auditioning for jobs. I do all my recording in my closet, but for the final “CAPCOM GO!” recording, I was asked to go to a studio so they could patch in to the recording from England.
Most of the stuff I do is pretty dull, but I just did an ad for a translator device with a Polish film company that came out REALLY cool…but I don’t think I’m allowed to post it yet (I’ll post it when it’s finished), but this is a short documentary I did last year for the Solidarity Center: https://youtu.be/12fowZKgOGY
Is NOBODY curious about what I found out about Mark Hamill? 😛
Congrats! Is that your voice in the trailer?
Having recently seen the Apollo 11 documentary, this looks like a good companion piece. I wonder if that IMAX dome I’ve been to in San Jose to see the new SW films in 70mm would get this?
Yup, that’s me! Thanks!
Wow, you you sound just like John Kennedy! 😛
Funny! 😉 I was wondering if somebody was going to say that.

I hope it will appear in the States, in whichever venues can accommodate it. I only have the Fernbank planetarium near me, but I don’t know if they have the right type of equipment.
Well in Mielr - and congrats and best wishes on the new career 😃
That looks a quality and intriguing documentary…
Thanks! 😃 I hope many of the OT community in the London vicinity will go and give their reviews!
In the past year, I started a new career as a voice-over artist.
If you’re near London, please check out the planetarium show: “CAPCOM GO!” for which I just completed the narration. It’s a great project, and I’m really proud of it!
Hopefully it will be in the States at some point as well (which is the only way I’ll get to see it), but if you’re lucky enough to be in the London area in July and have the opportunity to see it— let me know what you think! 😃
This is an info page, with a trailer:

PS-- I got some dirt on Mark Hamill from one of the directors during the recording session. 😉
